This is rich.

One of the legacy fake news outfits were criticizing President Trump for (allegedly) not spending time with the soldiers on Christmas.

While another competing fake news outfit . . . was criticizing President Trump for spending time with the soldiers on Christmas.

Too funny.

And clearly not “news” (but it IS, propaganda by NBC). Here Breitbart News reports on this NBC media sham.

Fake News: NBC Spreads False Claim President Trump Did Not Visit Troops at ‘Christmastime’

Matthew Boyle 26 Dec 2018 Breitbart News

NBC News and a variety of other media outlets falsely reported that President Donald Trump did not visit U.S. troops in a combat zone during Christmastime. NBC has yet to retract its demonstrably fake headline, and has left the fake story up on its website as of publication of this article.

On Wednesday afternoon, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed that President Trump and first lady Melania Trump made a surprise secret Christmas visit to U.S. troops in Iraq. . . .

. . . “Trump becomes first president since 2002 not to visit troops at Christmastime,” was the headline on an NBC News article from reporter Elyse Perlmutter-Gumbiner. . . .

A lot of people here have criticized Breitbart headlines.

Well now is your chance to criticize NBC headlines too.
There are a number of problematic things with the way NBC News has handled this problem. First and foremost, the outlet’s own editor’s note disproves both the headline and sub-headline of the article–as well as key sentences from it.
From a competing fake news outfit (CNN) we see scorn.

Fox news reporting this CNN scorn leveled against the President for spending time with the troops. (CNN even criticizes the troops themselves!)

And . . .

.

Trump cannot win with these people.

We have said as much on here. People ask why Trump’s supporters are so quick to defend him, and it is because of media outlets like this and posters on here. Any topic which has ostensibly good news to share is abandoned by his critics on this website, and scorned openly by CNN and the like.

Looking at CNN today, it was nothing but negativity and ridicule of his surprise visit. Why?

Ummm, NBC made this statement before Trump went to Iraq as I caught it on the Today show and on MSNBC or CNN as well.

BTW, why would anyone believe what’s on Breitbart anyway?

Fake News: Breitbart Spreads False Claim that NBC News spread false stories about Trump’s visit. Read the NBC article yourself and you will find this:

Editor’s note: On Wednesday, NBC News compiled a list of every Christmastime visit to active troops by a president since 2001. That list, as detailed in the article below, showed that former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama visited troops on or before Christmas every year since 2003, and President Donald Trump did so in 2017. As of the end of Christmas Day 2018, Trump had not visited troops during the holiday season, and had announced no plans to do so. The article was correct, but on Dec. 26, the situation changed. Trump and the first lady, Melania Trump, made an unannounced visit to troops in Iraq. As a result, the thrust of this article is no longer correct, even if it was at the time. In the interest of transparency, we are keeping the article on NBCNews.com so that the record will reflect the situation on the day the article was published, and are directing readers to the article about Trump’s Iraq visit here. We are also altering one line in the article, as well as the headline, to be more specific and to note that Trump was the first president since 2002 who didn’t visit military personnel on or before Christmas, rather than at Christmastime.

WHY do you think they had to put an “editors note” to the “story” Leaf?

God bless.

They had to put an editor’s note on the story because what was true at the time the story was first published became not true. It was corrected as soon as the facts changed.

The “facts” did not “change”.

But glad to see you admit the NBC article was in fact “corrected”.

Except that NBC WAS deceptive.

No. At the time the story was published, it was 100% true. Trump had not yet visited the troops. But then he did visit them (and dissed the Iraqi government in the process, by the way, and ran his visit like a political campaign rally, by the way, something that was totally unprecedented for visits to our deployed troops, and lied to the troops about the size of their raise, by the way). As soon as NBC found out about the visit, they posted the revision, along with an explanation so that no one could accuse them of trying to “cover up” the change. Nothing deceptive about those actions at all.

To LeafByNiggle. You are wrong.

To lurkers here.

See for yourself.

See how “Trump” did not visit the troops at “Christmastime” . . .

. . . And when we find out President Trump DOES visit the troops at Christmastime the fake news narrative (even the corrected version) was only partially true.

See how the people who oppose President Trump at all junctures, cannot admit even this obvious fake news.

Notice how the other fake news outlets that did get where President Trump was correctly . . . STILL managed to find fault with him for BEING THERE as well!

(CNN and NBC? Mere propaganda. Critical of all things Trump.)

Realize politics are the driver of all the excuse making here.

Or re-read everything and at least draw your own conclusions.

It will be quite evident.

Basic logic: if an article is true at the time it is published, it is, quite obviously, NOT fake news.

Also basic logic: stating that an article which was true at the time of publication is “fake news,” is, in itself, fake news.

Truly, some Trump supporters have fallen through the looking glass.

Ya know, what is so hypocritical is that some of the Trump defenders cite a bogus story from Breitbard, which clearly was not true, and yet they neglect to deal or even admit that Trump lies on a regular, almost everyday, basis (8+ times daily when speaking publicly according to the WaPo and the Toronto Star).

For example, Trump claimed that he gave military personnel a 10% raise this year (lie #1) when it was only 2.4%, and then he said it was the first raise in pay in 10 years (lie #2) when there were raises every single year over the last 10 years.

So, now in defense of their super-hero, are these “defenders” now going to come back and say something like “All politicians lie”, of which a corresponding response could be “All news outlets lie” so why (falsely) cite NBC if that’s true? Oh wait, it’s because NBC is on the “wrong side”; how could I forget!

IOW, with them it’s partisan politics at its worse and also a basically “get out of jail free” card for the Donald no matter what he says or does. But it’s clear he was right about one thing at least, namely that he could shoot someone in the face on 5th Avenue and his base would still support him because they must have deserved the bullet in some way or that the face simply got in the way of the bullet, much like some “Trump defenders” who blame parents seeking asylum for having their children being put into cages where now two have died. And Jesus would somehow approve that? I think not.

Looks like NBC has removed the story.

I can still click the link here, but going to NBC news site does not show it.

Why did they feel the need to report this at all?

Will they make up a story and then change it when it becomes not true?

No, NBC did not remove the story. It is still at NBCnews.com. And it still has the correction clearly stated, explaining the timeline of the facts, just like they did immediately after new facts came to light. However Breitbart has not yet retracted their misleading accusations against NBC news, because they are not held to the same journalistic standards.
