I love how there are so many images from the Philippines. It’s wonderful that there are so many Catholics there and it’s even more wonderful that so many of them have a devotion to our Blessed Mother.

The ones from the Philippines are some of the most beautiful 🙂

…Almost 4,000 miles due northwest from Aparecida, on the border between Colombia and Ecuador, is another of South America’s most important Marian shrines, though it is largely hidden in a steep canyon above the Guaitara River. The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Las Lajas in Ipiales is the fourth structure built on the site since a miraculous portrait of Our Lady and Child was discovered in a cave in the middle of the 1700s by an Indian woman carrying her deaf-mute daughter.
The Gothic-style church is considered one of the architectural wonders of the world, and according to the testimonials that line the walkways leading to the church, Las Lajas is rich in miraculous cures.
**Most miraculous of all, however, is the portrait of Our Lady and Child, along with St. Francis and St. Dominic, which appears to be painted on rock. But German scientists, after boring through various parts of the “painting,” discovered that the rich surface colors are not paint, but are the actual colors of the rock, which run several feet deep. Indeed, no one has ever come up with an explanation for the phenomenal painting. **

I am looking for my favorite image but can’t find it. I can’t remember where I saw it–on a Rosary pamphlet perhaps? It is of the Visitation apparently at Elizabeth’s house. What strikes me about this is the simplicity of the appointments–simple table, chair (I think Elizabeth is seated on it), and a jar. It inspires me toward a more simple life.

Anyone recognize this or know where I can find it?

Couldn’t seem to find a proper sized image of the Pieta. Either they were too huge or too small. Not that computer literate. Sorry.

I dont know how to put pictures on here…the one of Mary and the Lamb and lamb is a favorite, but yes, Mary looks too European and too OLD on all pictures (remember she was only 14 or 15.
I am a Native American artist. Years ago a group took the picture from the shroud and age regressed it to 12 or so (this was years ago). I took that face and feminized it and blended it with the Guadalupe face to make a painting for Native peoples, called Our Lady of the Great Lakes. She has a blue dress for our water with a real pressed wild flower on and a white mantle for the snow. I added a gold background and real beads. If you look at a real geography map of the St. Lawrence, one of the places the Lakes run out, you can almost see her standing there, hands folded and a halo, with islands in the shape of the lakes!!!

I also did another of the Sacred Heart of Mary. If anyone is interested in putting these on this wonderful list, I could mail them to you but I dont know how to contact anyone. Any ideas.

I hope you guys realize that she more than likely had dark skin just like jesus did. They were in a hotter area where people were very tan and had darker/thicker hair. The pictures of the jesus looking as a ‘white man’ are simply not true. there is a scripture in the bible that talks about how jesus looked. Mary did not look like your typical white woman, im sure of it.
Most Catholics are aware of this.

Still Mary is our Mother whatever our skin color is and Jesus is our Lord.

One of my favorite paintings is Jesus stilling the waves. This painting done by a chinese woman. She protrays Christ as a chinaman and the apostles as chinamen. It is a wonderful painting expressing her love for Christ. I’m sorry that I don’t have the name of the artist at present. I can see that painting in my minds eye however.

My favorite image is Our Lady of Guadalupe.

I love all Mary images and tend to collect cards that show our lady as represented by all cultures of the world. In fact I hope to seriously undertake a project in collecting beautiful images from all cultures. For instance, I would love to have a beautiful black Modonna from Africa. This is one of the “things I am going to do someday”

I do prefer Nativity scenes that show Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus as they would have appeared in Bethlehem.
