it is just a book!!! and also a film now. YAY!!!
Come on: do you folks who defend DaVinci as “fictional” really believe that it isn’t causing significant numbers of people to feel that they’ve “learned” something about Christianity?
I.E., you’ve never come across anyone who’s said, basically, “Man! I never knew that!”

you can’t deny that it is an exciting story. for me it was the piecing together of the “clues” and such that made the book what it is. granted, some people believe all the “facts” in the story, but that is their opinion and they are entitled to it. who are we to tell people what to believe? they can believe that it is truth if they want but to be honest who is it hurting?

christianity has been through a lot over the years but it is still going strong. that tells you a little thing about true faith. if these people think that they have learned something about christianity, then let them, there are worse things out there. Angels and Demons said that the Pope was a murderer. granted, it wasn’t the current pope, nor was he a real person, but in all honesty how many people believed that. next you’ll be saying that Star Wars is blasphemous because they have magical powers.

Let’s see if I have this straight. Ama’s daughter states her observation that the heightened controversy perpetrated by those so vehemently opposed to the DVC has had the opposite effect from what they intended and backs it up with an example. And rather than consider the possibility of “unintended consequences”, JSmitty insults the child (okay, teenager)?! I think I have a clear understanding of what is truly obnoxious here.You mean to tell me that you don’t think that this is obnoxious?:

She was even saying it in response to Catholic radio!
However, the young girl raises a valid point: how can we best respond to this popularized misinformation. It is a work of fiction not an academic textbook but it does draw our attention to some little known bits of history of the Church. Is this not an opportunity for a sharing of our faith and traditions? Must we turn it in to a pathetic pity party laced with vitriol. Such darker motivations feed our baser selves, perhaps were we to respond with love, we could open more eyes.

According to you, if someone decided to write a fictional work full of lies about someone you were close to say, your mother or wife, and millions of poeple were reading about how she was unfaithful, adulterous, murderous whatever, and it was made into a major motion picture, graphically depicting this lies, apparently you would feel okay with it.
Satan loves the fact that people think this tripe is harmless fun. That is how he gets people to stray from God, and end up with him in Hell forever.
And if your justification is it is a “good read” (I have heard non-Christians tell me Dan Brown is a predictable and poor writer though), go read something that doesn’t blaspheme and mock your Creator.

I know people (and I’m sure there are all too many of them) who are looking for any excuses they can muster to throw their faith down the toilet (as they feel that being Catholic can sometimes be “inconvenient”
), and they will latch right on to “DaVinci Code”, book or movie. If I refuse to accept the made-up nonsense as truth, they tell me I’m being close-minded. Well, somebody else on CAF said this in another thread, I think – I’m not going to open my mind so much that my brains fall out!By the way, I read “DaVinci Code”, and I don’t think it’s great writing, even as fiction. Dan Brown really starts to push his agenda in the second half of the book, and it bogs down and gets really boring at that point. I have no intention of seeing the movie.

i see how that may have been taken the wrong way but i believe that Jesus was the Son of God and therefore not God, but his chosen “prophet” on Earth. plus other religions accept Jesus as an important guy.
