What? Brokeback Mountain got released on DVD? How dare they! I’ll never buy that!

hides copy behind Crash, Capote and Good Night and Good Luck
It’s avaliable through your friendly, family oriented Wal-Mart.

Correction…

Cost to make Kinsey was only 11 million and its total gross worldwide was 16 million. It only made it to 588 theaters in US. Gross for rentals was $390,000. No amount for sales.
Also, the filmakers could care less about how many people see the movie in theaters.
I think you are wrong on this. They don’t make an adult production for 100 million and expect to make it on DVDs. alone. Every year the money makers for DVDs are children movies not adult. Money is made at the box office.

.Example…Million Dollar Baby made $100 million in the US and 115 million in foreign theaters, 20 million in sales and 2 million in rentals.

Walmart needs lots of letters.

Blessed John XXIII, Ad Petri Cathedram (On Truth, Unity and Peace in a Spirit of Charity) June 29, 1959
  1. And in this day of ours, as you well know, Venerable Brethren and beloved sons, we also have radio broadcasts, motion pictures, and television (which can enter easily into the home). All of these can provide inspiration and incentive for morality and goodness, even Christian virtue. Unfortunately, however, they can also entice men, especially the young, to loose morality and ignoble behavior, to treacherous error and perilous vice.
  2. The weapons of truth, then, must be used in defense against these weapons of evil. We must strive zealously and relentlessly to ward off the impact of this great evil which every day insinuates itself more deeply.
  3. We must fight immoral and false literature with literature that is wholesome and sincere. Radio broadcasts, motion pictures, and television shows which make error and vice attractive must be opposed by shows which defend truth and strive to preserve the integrity and safety of morals. Thus these new arts, which can work much evil, will be turned to the well-being and benefit of men, and at the same time will supply worthwhile recreation. Health will come from a source which has often produced only devastating sickness.

I believe this has already been mentioned… but it is a pure work of fiction. Dan Brown has created a book that is pure FICTION!! Only people who do not know it’s fiction will really believe the material in the book. If people are smart, they will know Jesus did not have children and have relations with Mary Magdalene… everyone should know that. This book is creative… and the more attention it gets, the more people will want to see it!

The Church is the pastor of both the smart and the not so smart. We can’t be like, “if you’re not smart enough to reject these errors, then to hell with you.”

Fiction or not, the fact is it causes confusion and leads people away from the truth and therefore it’s fictions need to be demonstrated as such and the truth needs to be demontstrated. This is the duty of the Church, the mother and teacher of all people.

We have freedom of speech in this country, and the movie will go out just like the book.

I think it’s up to our church leadership primarily but then up to us to point out the errors in the movie and the book.

Sometimes I think these things would just blow over, like the furor over the cartoons of Mohammed, if we just let them burn out.

If a movie is going to push somebody over the edge out of their faith, then there’s not much stopping it.

I think the Gospel of Judas is another sensationized thing. Next Easter it will be something else, or maybe just repeats because the networks have to make a buck.

Yes, furthermore the DVC presents itself as being more along the lines of historical fiction. That is, it is historically true but has a fictional story woven around it. This is why we must oppose such blasphemy. Nothing about it is truthful.

This is a very good point.👍

Thank you. Refer also to post #12. BTW, “the Democratic Party at prayer” is a reference to the USCCB for those of you that were wondering.

I so bought Brokeback Mountain DVD! Best Movie of 2005!

And yeah, if you handed me one of your stupid pamphlets that attempt to keep humankind primitive and conservative, I would probably rip it on your face and say “Stop Trying To Stop Change” I really dislike Conservatives. Talk about trying to hinder man’s evolution…

A post like this will get a lot of people praying for you, my friend. Also, I’m sorry to inform you, but the Catholic Faith is conservative by the very nature of the Church’s commission to preserve and spread the Deposit of Faith, that is, the Gospel of Christ in it’s entirety.

I still pick Capote for that, but I have purchased every best picture nominee so far released. I could really not give less of a care what causes and conspiracies anyone comes up with as long as the movies are good.

C’mon folks, do we really want people in the Church who are so gullible as to believe a work of fiction is true? These folks must also believe that Kansan tornadoes can whisk you off on a full Technicolor adventure (Kansas is real; tornadoes are real; the whole thing must be true!) What’s next on the agenda? Attacking Alexander Dumas for implying that King Louis of France was really is own twin brother?

Faith planted in good soil would not be swayed by an afternoon’s diversion at the cineplex. Furthermore, if the Bride of Christ cannot make her case better than a Hollywood box office ploy, we’ve deeper problems to concider.

Would you shut up? Idle talk is a sin. You don’t do anything but gripe and moan about a lot of nothing on these forums…typical liberal.
wow, how very rude.

I have personal experience with Kansas tornadoes and you ruined Snata for me but I will not have you tell me Oz isn’t real.

I don’t think so. Look up their posts. I know that telling someone to ‘shut up’ isn’t the most PC way of going about things, but our Lord didn’t seem to mind (Mark 1:25).

“…souls cannot be perfectly united in charity unless minds agree in faith…” From Pope Leo XIII’s Satis Cognitum (29 June 1896)

If two men making “love” is another step in mans evolution, it’s my opinion that we evolving in the wrong direction. If Brokeback was the best movie of 2005, it evidently the best of the worst. As for me, I’ll stay, as you say, “primitive and conservative”.

If everyone has your primitive way of thinking, the only evolution you’ll see is extinction ! Quit fooling yourself !

I have to respectfully disagree with you. I have read through this entire thread. The comment was rude and no doubt against forum rules of conduct. He/she has an opinion just like everyone else, if you disagree with it fine, then say so and leave it at that.

Now that I’m back in here again…might as well throw my two cents in. I’ve read Dan Browns Demons and Angels and enjoyed it and I plan on reading Da Vinci Code before the movie comes out. I love fiction adventure mixed with romance but I do not take it seriously nor should anyone else. This is incredibly ridiculous to be making such a big fuss over this book and now the movie.

My daughter and I were driving home from her school one day (she’s 16) and listening to Catholic radio. They had a program on devoted to this topic, my daughter looked over at me and said “ya know mom, they are making such a big deal out of this now that all my friends want to go see it, they weren’t even interested before!! now they are making into a big party, Lets all go together!!”

I think if we were allowed to use the word “shut up” it would surely be directed else where 🙂 😉

It’s a work of fiction, end of story. And it’s silly to think anyone is going to leave the church over it.

This all seems like a case of playing the victim. There’s no enemy, lighten up…go see the movie and have a good study about it in your parish afterwards. Maybe invite a scholarly Jesuit priest to come in and lead it so you can get all the facts straight about our faith incase the movie really does confuse you. I’m being serious here, I believe I heard something about parishes doing this on Catholic radio.

Everyone knows *the book is fiction just like everyone know phychics are not real yet people still spend a fortune believing them. * Forty million books sold is unbelieveable since everyone know Mary Madelaine did not really marry Jesus and have children. No doubt the producers will make it into a good mystery like it is all innocent
lighten up…go see the movie
How rude to suggest that because someone disagrees with you that that person is not light-hearted, only you are.
