Questions and Answers on Ebola

Q: What is Ebola?

A: Ebola virus is the cause of a viral hemorrhagic fever disease. Symptoms include: fever, headache, joint and muscle aches, weakness, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain, lack of appetite, and abnormal bleeding. Symptoms may appear anywhere from 2 to 21 days after exposure to Ebola virus though 8-10 days is most common.

Q: How is Ebola transmitted?

A: Ebola is transmitted through direct contact with the blood or bodily fluids of an infected symptomatic person or though exposure to objects (such as needles) that have been contaminated with infected secretions.

Q: Can Ebola be transmitted through the air?

A: No. Ebola is not a respiratory disease like the flu, so it is not transmitted through the air.

Q: Can I get Ebola from contaminated food or water?

A: No. Ebola is not transmitted through food in the United States. It is not transmitted through water.

Q: Can I get Ebola from a person who is infected but doesn’t have any symptoms?

A: No. Individuals who are not symptomatic are not contagious. In order for the virus to be transmitted, an individual would have to have direct contact with an individual who is experiencing symptoms or has died of the disease.

Not so says Canadian researchers:

healthmap.org/site/diseasedaily/article/pigs-monkeys-ebola-goes-airborne-112112

The theory is probably very accurate with body fluid transmission, but its not conclusive. And the difficultly to contract the virus through fluid transmission is unknown, its panic control. They “don’t know” how its contracted in its initiation to humans.

The person infected came in contact with others, for sure. The theory is that the patient wasn’t symptomatic till 4-days before arrival, he was sick 4-days before arrival at the hosp. Shaking hands can transmit the virus. Does that sound difficult to catch?

From your article, emphasis mine:

While the study provided evidence that transmission of Ebola between species is possible, researchers still cannot say for certain how that transmission actually occurred.

There are three likely candidates for the route of transmission: airborne, droplet, or fomites. Airborne and droplet transmission both technically travel through the air to infect others; the difference lies in the size of the infective particles. Smaller droplets persist in the air longer and are able to travel farther- these droplets are truly “airborne.” Larger droplets can neither travel as far nor persist for very long. Fomites are inanimate objects that can transmit disease if they are contaminated with infectious **agents. In this study, a monkey’s cage could have been contaminated when workers were cleaning a nearby pig cage. If the monkey touched the contaminated cage surface and then its mouth or eyes, it could have been infected. **- See more at: healthmap.org/site/diseasedaily/article/pigs-monkeys-ebola-goes-airborne-112112#sthash.CzLkcIqg.dpuf

So even in this study that late night talk show hosts love to refer to so as to spread panic amongst their faithful, the study is inconclusive.

If the monkey touched the contaminated cage surface and then its mouth or eyes, it could have been infected.
Right so they “don’t know”. So the monkey “may have TOUCHED” the cage just as a human may touch anything contaminated.

Does that sound “hard to contract”? Of course not. Now consider this again…
the manner in which the virus first appears in a human at the start of an outbreak is unknown.
Lots on unknowns for a very contagious virus. They don’t know how the outbreak started. 🤷 Maybe man started it? Or do you know for sure thats not factual?

I think this is the most devastating headline sine 911.
Devastating
Yes

It is like the towers crumbling in a slow motion, sickly sort of way.

Why is this devastating?

To begin with…all travelers from ground zero should have be suspect and under heavy watch.

We have known the dangers well in advance. The CDC directives were delivered yet the medical facility involved neglected to recognize the alert.

I hear ISIS is like a cancer. The cancer metastasized from another origin.

Yeah, I did not see your article referencing the Canadian study until after I posted.

Something like this… there is no reason to borrow trouble. I don’t think it is in anyone’s interest to panic. The education level is much higher here, burial practices are legally regulated.

I think the biggest danger we face here is that if it does spread, it won’t be the disease, as much as the manner in which people react to this crisis.

Very good chance it already spread and is continuing. I can’t imagine the US patient didn’t touch others and the sequence would continue.

I don’t see the panic as an equivalence to Africa, do you?

Note that all you libs ignore the massive criminal release of which I spoke
:rotfl:

Seriously??? You’re saying we’re all liberals because no one here will allow you to completely derail a thread? Start your own thread on this topic and hopefully everyone will have a civil discussion that doesn’t get everyone banned 👍

Meanwhile, back on the topic – this is disturbing news indeed. First of all, prayers are needed for this man and all those near to him right now. Hopefully the CDC is now putting under quarantine anyone who had close contact with him since his arrival in the US.

I heard one researcher saying that we should have an ebola vaccine before the end of the year. So it had to arrive on US soil before our scientists would get around to creating a vaccine? So thousands dead in Africa doesn’t rate that high – but see a few Americans with ebola getting off planes, and now we’ll have a vaccine in just a few months? Seems like an unbelievable coincidence to me.

And now that there’s been a positive diagnosis in this country, let’s hope this one scientist’s optimistic prediction comes to pass…

Prayer. Prayer. Prayer…and fasting!

We should have a drug that cancels the virus in an individual, but not an antivirus, so the spread and how its contracted will continue.

I agree, Beautiful.

*The patient, an unidentified man, sought treatment Sept. 26 and was admitted to a hospital Sept. 28.

During his first visit to the hospital, he complained of illness but was released before returning Sept. 28 as his condition worsened. A hospital official said it wasn’t until then that they discovered he was in West Africa.

…The City of Dallas says the man moved to Dallas from Liberia a week ago, but not much more has been released.

If this is true, then he was an immigrant from Liberia. Why would the Obama administration allow anyone from West Africa to board a plane without being held in quaratine first? I know children who wouldn’t make such reckless decisions.

Some information regarding the quarantine practices that legal immigrants coming through Ellis Island had to submit to.

So the hosts carried the virus out of Africa and around the world. So first of all in the USA there is no reason to believe with a 4-day window many others were not contaminated while this man was symptomatic or not or he didn’t know.

Its also not true that in the US reporting that you have to be symptomatic to spread the virus, thats untrue and non factual from the recorded spread in Africa. So the idea that the man in the US couldn’t have also spread the virus on the plane is assumption based on hope. Or in other words before the 4-day window. Its rather factual for that which we have no facts to support the preciseness of the proposition. Or…

Big window imho.

Gertie, I knew from the day that they sent the first doctor home still infected that Obama and the CDC were not serious about this viral horror. I believed then that Ebola was coming to a town near you.
YES, I do blame the government for insufficient precautions at best, malfeasance at worst. NO, I do not believe that everyone who sees this issue different from me is a liberal. But I do think that too many Americans are too trusting of the Obama Administration. We want to believe that our President loves America and its people, and will act in our interests. But not even the trading of five monstrous terrorists for one traitor has been enough for people to remove their blinders. 🤷 Blessings, Rob

Why would the Obama administration be so reckless?
Remember when President Obama spoke recently about how ISIS is a cancer?
youtube.com/watch?v=P9KXVPiw2sI
He fails to acknowledge what fueled the cancer.
We all know his withdrawal of troops and further neglect and recklessness in the matter fueled ISIS.
And now we are witnessing another dire situation being recklessly neglected.
I found more footage of what it was like for my dear ancestors as they entered this country.history.com/topics/ellis-island/videos/the-ellis-island-medical-inspection

That is just ONE man. How many were ushered in before and with him? How many will be ushered in after before US doors finally tighten up?

Only in laboratory settings, I think. I don’t know of any natural cases of it doing so.
So far it has only happened passing from pigs to monkeys in a lab, yes, but this shows the capability of the virus to mutate into such a form and over time it is LIKELY, not unlikely to do so since an airborne form of the virus has evolutionary advantages over the non airborne forms.

From the US Center for Disease Control

CDC has been anticipating and preparing for a case of Ebola in the United States. We have been:
  • Enhancing surveillance and laboratory testing capacity in states to detect cases
  • Developing guidance and tools for health departments to conduct public health investigations
  • Providing recommendations for healthcare infection control and other measures to prevent disease spread
  • Providing guidance for flight crews, Emergency Medical Services units at airports, and Customs and Border Protection officers about reporting ill travelers to CDC
  • Disseminating up-to-date information to the general public, international travelers, and public health partners
The data health officials have seen in the past few decades since Ebola was discovered indicate that it is not spread through casual contact or through the air. Ebola is spread through direct contact with bodily fluids of a sick person or exposure to objects such as needles that have been contaminated. The illness has an average 8-10 day incubation period (although it ranges from 2 to 21 days); CDC recommends monitoring exposed people for symptoms a complete 21 days. People are not contagious after exposure unless they develop symptoms.

More information is available at www.cdc.gov/ebola.
independent.co.uk/news/world/africa/ebola-virus-spread-by-taxi-passengers-says-who-9719478.html
The Ebola virus is spreading exponentially in Liberia, the World Health Organisation warned today.
The organisation said that motorbike-taxis and regular taxis are “a hot source of potential virus transmission” because they are not disinfected in Liberia, where conventional Ebola control measures “are not having an adequate impact”.
This is another acknowledged means of transmission of the virus.

So monkey/pig cages and taxies…why don’t we just recognize that it does not require person-to-person contact as so many say who seem more afraid of panic than Ebola?

Dude, you’re 100% right its not about partisan politics. Its not partisan at all to blame Obama for this individual being in the US due to his administration’s actions prior to even know if the individual being treated with Ebola-
-is a male or female
-a citizen of the US or not
-how this individual was screened
-and if this screening is adequate

Nope, not partisan at all.
It is not rocket science for the POTUS to shut the border to anyone who is not medically screened prior to entry and then quarantined for any positive result.

I don’t care if Obama is a Democrat or a Republican, this is as power only invested in him by his own EO, and thus HIS RESPONSIBILITY and he is FAILING.

Honestly, I think W Bush would have not done much different, but that is because W was as much a globalist corporate crony hack as Obama is.

Your not contagious during the incubation period.
We do not KNOW that for a FACT; we can only say that there is no proof that it can be, but where is the study to see if Ebola can be treansmitted prior to showing flu-like symptoms?

But even that is bad enough. The guy in Dallas went 4 days touching door handles, riding in cars, sneezing at various kinds of tables, getting his contagious sweat on all of them. There may already be scores of people who contracted the virus from him, and here we are about 4 days later and maybe those scores have passed the disease on to hundreds more or thousands more?

I pray that by this Christmas we are not fighting an Ebola outbreak in the USA.

Yes, keep in mind things are more rural in Africa. This is infecting thousands and thousands in Africa where things are spread out. This virus is now in a metropolitan area. Dallas Airport is massive. Granted, he was not ill until after he left the airport but imagine if anyone else used a hand sink in a bathroom after this guy once he was, or any of the things mentioned above. If ANYONE who picked this thing up got on a plane after that this could be far far worse than 9/11. We are talking Horse of Pestilence from Revelation bad. I have a business trip in three weeks or so. Not looking forward to being in pressurized cabin with anyone.
