I mostly agree, then more of the other stories would be seen and everything could be in a thread titled something like “Ebola” or however the thread was done that was done on Ukraine. But let it be up to whomever administers and moderates these threads.

It’s a tough call because something really major could happen that might deserve its own thread but if one looks at the news there are seemingly dozens of stories that are coming out. Every little thing about Ebola.
If it was 100 years from now and I wanted to do some research on how this unfolded, I would appreciate having a timeline of developments and comments all in one place. There are literally hundreds of new articles coming out every day.

By the way, the Yale student’s preliminary Ebola test came back negative. Thank God.

Vomiting Passenger Dies on Flight from Nigeria to JFK
The unnamed, 63-year-old passenger had boarded an Arik Air plane out of Lagos, Nigeria, on Wednesday night, a federal law enforcement source said.
During the flight, the man had been vomiting in his seat, the source said. Some time before the plane landed, he passed away. Flight crew contacted the CDC, federal customs officials and Port Authority police, who all boarded the plane at around 6 a.m. as about 145 worried passengers remained on board, the source said.
“The door [to the terminal] was left open, which a lot of the first responders found alarming,” said the source.
“My understanding was that the passenger was vomiting in the seat,” King (R-LI) said.
“The CDC went on the plane, examined the dead body and said the person did not have Ebola,” King said.
“It was what I was told a cursory examination. The Port Authority cops and personnel from Customs and Border Protection were there, and they were told there was no danger because the person did not have Ebola,” King said.
“But their concern was, how could you tell so quickly? And what adds to the concern is how wrong the CDC has been over the past few weeks.”
Between 70 and 100 passengers a day arrive at JFK from Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, the three West African countries that are the epicenter of the outbreak, King said.
“These individuals transit the airport with the rest of the traveling population, including using the restrooms,” King wrote to Jeh Johnson, secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, in a letter Thursday.
You can read the letter Rep Peter King (R-LI) sent to the Dept of Homland Security and US Customs and Border Protection here:

I think it’s safe to say, they can not exclude Ebola by sight without taking samples or doing an autopsy. If they are trying this hard to avoid a panic, why not just stop the 70 - 100 passengers arriving daily. Note that figure is for JFK only. This is suicidal. If someone has a good reason to leave W Africa, then they can pay for the cost of a 3 week quarantine before boarding a plane. Things are not going to get better over there if we have to fight another fire over here.

We need to start contacting our reps, signing petitions and overall just make a big stink about this. I hope we can get a figure on how many total are leaving W Africa per day.

I read this last night on thr Drudge Report!! How could they tell it was not ebola!! I am glad he was on that plane and wrote the letter, but I hope he sent a copy to the CDC and the mayor of new york city!

I would not want to be travelling right now on any passenger flights coming in from europe or africa that is for sure!

I heard about the man on the flight as well, what a horrible way to die and yes, of course, it makes you wonder. Prayers for him, that’s awful and hopefully and probably not ebola.

Ridley Scott Is Developing an Ebola Series
As Ebola continues to spread across the world, Ridley Scott and producer Lynda Obst have decided to keep moving forward with a limited series about the fatal virus.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the pair has been working on a project based on Richard Preston’s 1994 bestseller The Hot Zone for the past year. They originally optioned the book 20 years ago with plans to turn it into a film starring Jodie Foster.
Ebola, the TV series.

I think I read here and elsewhere that people think with what is going on here in Dallas that were about to get Martial Law.

I do believe that things were done very wrong here but Idon’t think we are in the moment to get to Martial Law.

It is obvious Obama and his administration are incompetent and lack common sense! I will be so glad when his term of president is over.

Cause Ebola?
I may have heard wrong, but I think I heard that Ebola cannot be transmitted through food. However, when I looked up Ebola on Wikipedia (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ebola_virus_disease) it indicates that this strain of Ebola is suspected by the “Bushmeat” they eat in Africa. Further the diagram shows bats infecting other animals, and the spread of the virus to humans from animals other than bats. Further, I remember an artical earlier this year (can’t find source) about a great sickness in bats that was making it hard on farmers (USA) … Could the USA bats have Ebola?

Is there clarification about the cause of Ebola and how it’s transmitted?

Not sure how the virus gets started in africa, but it only exists here because a human with the virus travelled here.
I suppose our bats could carry it, but we have not had a case of ebola in any animals that could be transmitted to a bat.

I’m very curious, how many people here foresee this precipitating martial law in America?

They couldn’t possibly know. They are simply trying to calm everyone. King’s letter is all over the internet and hopefully he will get some answers. I am sorry that poor man died. Whether it was from Ebola or not, one thing it does show is that the safety protocols we have in place for travel are simply not sufficient.

At some point the number of contacts being monitored will be too difficult to handle and we can’t trust voluntary quarantine with something this deadly. I would think travel restrictions, securing our border, education, and ankle monitors could prevent martial law.

WTMI
Every time any traveler to or from West Africa vomits and causes a scare 😦
immature news reports with MAD magazine flair.

I copied this from a comment on Matt Walsh’s FB page… so not my original thoughts, :o but exactly what I’ve had on my mind. It’s regarding the panic vs. don’t mentality.
And if my wife or daughter catches it and dies, will I feel justified in being mad that more people didn’t freak out enough about it to do something? I.e. stay home when you are sick, even if it means losing the plane ticket value.
Most people are freaking because the steps taken to get there have been massive.
  1. No way ebola can get to US.
  2. Ebola got here, no way anyone else will catch it.
  3. A nurse caught it; how in the heck did that happen?! No one else will though!
  4. ****, another nurse caught it. And she flew beforehand?? Well hopefully we won’t have anyone else getting sick.
  5. Mayor in Houston now claiming there will likely be more cases.
Can you see the trend? With a 70% kill rate, would you honestly not be worried if the guy next to you on the airplane threw up?
