Thank you, chero23, and all of you who prayed for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization team last week. We were granted fair weather and gave away many Rosaries, along with pamphlets on how to pray it. Several active Catholics stopped by to encourage us.

Please pray for us again today? Team numbers are few, the weather has turned cold again, and spirits in general are low. But Jesus Christ hasn’t changed, nor the Good News of the Gospel, nor the Church that He founded. People still need to see and hear about Him. Would you please ask God to infuse us, at least temporarily, with the joy and energy we need to be effective witnesses for Him?

Thank you, and may God bless you, too.

Thank you, johnnyc176 and all of you who prayed for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization team last week!

Two of us were able to go out and be there for at least part of our regularly scheduled session. We gave away a few Rosaries, but mostly seemed to have the opportunity to encourage a couple of fellow Catholics who were happy to see us there because they also are feeling called to begin sharing the Faith more actively. They took a number of pamphlets that address frequently asked questions and contact information. It’s all good! Thank you again – your prayers make a HUGE difference, because without Him we can do nothing.

Please pray for us again this week? First, we’re planning to head downtown again in just a couple of hours. So, would you please pray that God sends people to us with hearts prepared to receive the Good News about Jesus Christ and the Church that He founded? As always, would you also please pray for our effectiveness in reaching each of these precious souls?

Second, and as an aside, I “happened” to run into my state representative at a breakfast this morning at my parish. I vaguely remembered that she is a pro-choice Democrat. When she asked me what issues I wanted to see the legislature address, I mentioned the life issues: abortion, euthanasia, assisted suicide – and same-sex “marriage”. She was quite interested in hearing about why the government should be involved in the definition of marriage – and actually seemed to listen as I explained how the breakdown of stable, permanent marriages creates a greater burden on society and, specifically, that children of both broken homes and of same-sex couples have a much poorer chance of becoming contributing members of society. She asked me to send her the study that showed that. So, please pray 1) that I can find it again, and 2) that she understands it and takes it to heart, and 3) that she turns around and becomes an effective “pro-family” advocate. Her name is Sue.

Thank you again so much for your prayer support! In return, may God abundantly bless you and yours!

Wow! Thank you for your prayers for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization team last week.
I found the studies and other materials without any problem (Praise be to God!) and sent them off to Sue, the state legislator. She acknowledged she received them. Please continue to pray for her conversion? As far as I know, she is still an unbeliever.
Also, our time on the street went well last week. Another evangelist showed up, so there were two of us, at least.

We had a return encounter from a man from several months ago – the one who had a mystical experience through his wolf-dogs and who, because he couldn’t read, gladly accepted CDs (that another evangelist had insisted we take that week). Last Sunday, he walked by a couple of times. The second time, since no one had actually stopped to talk to us yet, we asked him to stay and chat a minute. I recalled that he was trying to discern whether he should leave his long-time faith community/employer because he had discovered some unethical doings among the leadership. I asked what he had decided. He said he had moved to another congregation of the same denomination in a nearby town. And they, too, had offered him employment. From us, he accepted CDs on understanding the role of Mary and on the miracle of Fatima. Please, keep him in your prayers?

We are, the Good Lord willing, planning to set up downtown again in just a little while. A new person who thinks he might be called to street evangelization is planning to join us. So, would you please pray that he AND our evangelist who is so good at recruiting are both able to make it today? Also, of course, please pray that we have an effective session – that God prepares people’s hearts and minds to receive the Good News about Jesus Christ and the gift He gave us in the Catholic Church, that each of us will be given the words, the manner, and the wisdom to reach each of these precious souls, and that much fruit for the Kingdom of God will result from our efforts today?

Thank you again, so much! May God in return bless you and yours!

Thank you again for your prayers for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization team last week. We had a new evangelist join us, at least for the Lenten season. Praise God, he’s a natural!

Our longest encounter was with a man named “John”, who really wasn’t familiar with the Gospel stories at all. He accepted a Bible from us, a Rosary and brochure on praying it, and the Good News pamphlet that presents the kerygma. Please pray for him?

Please, too, send up a prayer or two for the team again today? We plan to head downtown in a bit over an hour. As far as I know, the new guy and I will be the only ones who can make it. Also, it’s been raining here, and that tends to keep Boiseans huddled inside. So, we need your prayers that God will send people to us, that their hearts and minds will be prepared to take a serious look at Jesus Christ and His Church, and that He will grant us the wisdom, the manner, and the words to effectively reach each of these souls whom He loves so much!

Thank you, and may God bless you and yours!

Thank you, chero23 and all of you who prayed for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization team last week! God sent us people to hear our message of hope.

We had an amazing session. Among others interested in the Rosary and the Church, we had two groups stop and stay for extended visits. In each of these groups – of 4-6 young people – were a couple of seekers with serious questions about the Faith. (So it was a good thing there were two of us, so we could give individual attention to each one.) Each group stayed with us for quite a while. To God be the glory! Thank you again, everyone, for your prayers! God heard you. [And, would you please send up a prayer for each of the four “seekers” who talked with us, that they continue their journey toward Jesus Christ and the Church that He founded?]

Please pray for us again as we head downtown again in just a little while. It’s spring break here and many of our regular evangelists are out of town. So, would you please pray first that God sends workers today to help with “the harvest”? Then, of course, please ask God to again send people to us with hearts prepared to see their need for Jesus Christ and His Church. Please also pray that He grants us team members the wisdom, the manner, and the words to reach each of these precious souls?

As an aside, would you also please send up a prayer for me for wisdom? I was asked to give feedback on a book manuscript – but am dismayed by the anti-Catholic/anti-Christian effect I think it would have on the average reader. So, would you join me in praying that God will grant me the words to 1) reawaken the author’s own faith, and 2) make viable suggestions on how to “redeem” the manuscript (which I think is doable), 3) that the author has the grace and the courage to comply, and 4) that the work becomes an honor for Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church.

Thank you again for your prayer support. We can accomplish nothing without Him! In return, may God bless you and yours!

Thank you for your continuing prayers for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization team. Here’s a report from the team about last week’s outing.

Thanks, everyone, for your prayers today! The big Lawn & Garden Flower Show was going on in the convention center and they had rented the entire center of the park. So two park employees literally picked up our table and signs and moved us down the south spoke to just beyond a popular gift shop. Then they shook my hand and asked God to bless us. And He did!

We ended up having a nearly non-stop busy day – giving away all but maybe 5 Rosaries. God is good!

Please pray for our team again today? As far as I know, only one of us is available. Please pray, though, that God sends people to us with hearts prepared to see their need for Him and for His Church. Please pray also that He gives those of us on the team the words, the manner, and the wisdom to reach each of these precious souls. An extra prayer for “workers for the harvest” would also be most welcome!

Thank you again, and may God bless you and yours!

Thank you so much for your prayers!

Not only were there two of us evangelizing [your prayer answered!], but two couples from different parishes in the valley stopped by for information about starting the apostolate in their areas [perhaps another prayer being answered?]! Also, a large group of people–evidently just coming from the service at their local Baptist church–stopped by to quiz us (nicely) on Catholic teachings. By the end of the conversation, I think they at least realized that we were fellow Christians and not pushing wanton idolatry.

One of them had pointed to a Rosary and asked if people used it as an idol. The evangelist laughed. She picked one up and said, “You know, I think very few people look at this and mistake it for God Himself!” This led to a discussion of idols in general, and how people might idolize something, such as their fancy car, but how the Church has always taught that worship belongs to God alone.

When asked what makes the Catholic Church different from the Christian denominations, the discussion turned toward the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. However, that discussion got interrupted when more people arrived, and the group left.

Please pray for us today, Easter Sunday? Again, as far as I know, only one of us is available. Please pray, though, that God sends people to us with hearts prepared to see their need for Him and for His Church. Please pray also that He gives those of us on the team the words, the manner, and the wisdom to reach each of these precious souls. An extra prayer for “workers for the harvest” would again be most welcome! And also for a spirit of cooperation among team members.

Thank you again, and may God bless you and yours!

Thank you again for your prayer support! Boise’s Catholic street evangelization team (well, one of us, anyway) were out making the Faith visible last week, on Easter Sunday.

Most people were very pleasant and pleased to say, “Happy Easter!” in return. Several non-Catholics Christians accepted Rosaries and were happy to learn what it is and how to pray it. Please pray for one young man, though, the only one who gave a cynical “Yeah, right” in answer to the greeting.

I also am happy to report that recently the area’s major newspaper printed two editorials: one in support of life issues, and the other supporting people who promote a moral lifestyle. That wouldn’t have happened two years ago. I may not have hard evidence, but I think our team’s making the Faith visible, faithfully, week after week, with good cheer and friendliness – and this close to the State capitol – is having a positive impact on our society. Praise be to God for His Divine Mercy!

Please continue to keep the Boise team in your prayers? We plan to head downtown again in just a little while. Please pray that God will send people to us, with hearts prepared to receive the Good News of Jesus Christ and His Church, and that He will grant us the wisdom, the words, and the manner to reach each of these precious souls for His Kingdom.

Thank you. And, may God bless you and yours!

Quick prayer request: I’ve been asked to be on the radio this morning with a local parish during their segment of the fund-raising drive for our local Catholic radio station. Would you please pray that the Holy Spirit gives me the words to say to make me effective for Him? (Last time I was on, I “choked” and literally couldn’t get any words out.) Thank you and may God bless you, too!

Thank you so much for your prayers!

The radio experience went well, I think. It was mercifully short. And, once I got talking about street evangelization, it was hard for them to shut me up. Hopefully, God was glorified. Thank you again for your prayer support. And thank you for praying for our team last week. It was a bit more exciting than usual.

Two of us were available, although the newer evangelist let me know he would have to leave a few minutes early for another appointment. Things were going as usual: offering Rosaries to everyone, explaining it to many who were interested to learn more. Then the second evangelist took his leave.

About then, I offered a Rosary to a man walking by. He responded that he had gotten one from me the previous week. So I asked if he had any questions and invited him to look over our brochures to see if any of them looked interesting. He came to the table, and ended up choosing the one on marriage and annulments. As I was pulling one out for him, a second man approached.

He (the second man) flipped his longboard up and was standing at attention, obviously waiting to ask something. But there was also this sense of barely contained rage about him. He felt like a ticking timebomb. So, I handed the brochure to the first man and turned my attention to the second.

Sure enough, he started off with what could have been interpreted as insulting remarks. But the Holy Spirit protected me from taking offense and gave me the “mild answers that turneth away wrath” (Prov 15:1). And the young man soon launched into his story. He had been raised in a devout (non-Catholic) Christian home. He spoke very respectfully of his parents, but clearly something had hurt him so badly that he had turned his back on all organized religion. But human beings are hard-wired for religion, so he was in the process of trying to make up his own.

He was telling me his philosophy – a predictable blend of the popular secular, Eastern, and New Age beliefs. It didn’t have any hope in it – as the sour, pickled smell of chronic heavy alcohol use about him attested. When he got to the part where he said he thought there was no afterlife at all, that this life was all there is, I think the Holy Spirit stepped in again to give me some words. The young man wasn’t open at all to Christianity, but I was able to go back further – to Aristotle – and show him, based on purely natural observations, that 1) human beings are different from all the other animals, and 2) the human soul is immortal.

Meanwhile, the other evangelist had glanced back and seen that I was suddenly juggling two live wires, so to speak. He was able to postpone his other meeting so he could come back to help. He talked with the man at the table – who had a long history in prison for, shall we say, more than parking violations. When the evangelist had brought that conversation to a stopping place, he came over and joined the one with the skateboarder (who gave his name as “Dick”). Encouraged, Dick repeated his story for the other evangelist. Significantly, when he reached the point in his philosophy where he had declared that this life was all there is, he now said that he didn’t know what happened after death, but he believed that life continued.

Plus, by that point, that sense of barely suppressed rage had also drained away from him and he now seemed to have at least a glimmer of hope. We invited him to stop by and talk with us again. Please keep Dick in your prayers. He’s on a long and painful road – and still a long way from finding his way home to Christ and the Catholic Church.

And PLEASE pray for us again this week? We’re planning to head downtown in just a little while. Please ask God to send people to us with hearts prepared to take a serious look at their need for Jesus Christ and for His Church, and to give us the words, the wisdom, and the manner we need to reach each of these precious souls for Christ.

Thank you for your continuing prayers for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization team. It was a solo effort last week, and looks like it will be so again today. But, we still had plenty of people stopping by the table, interested in learning what the Rosary is and how to pray it.

Please pray for us again today? Please pray that God will send people to us with hearts prepared to take Jesus Christ and the Church He founded seriously. Please also pray that he gives team members the words, the manner, and the wisdom to be able to reach each of these precious souls for Christ.

Wow! Thanks, everybody, for your prayers! It was almost a no-go last week. But then God heard your prayer.

Our leader had just posted a notice canceling the outing, due to sudden illness as well as to lack of availability of any other team member. Then the hoped-for black Rosaries arrived (our most sought-after color). Then another team member called in who had become suddenly available. So the team agreed to meet downtown at the usual time. Afterward, they reported at least four significant conversations in the hour (that is, with people interested enough in the Catholic Church that the team offers a map to their nearest parish).

The first of the significant conversations the evangelists had was with a Pakistani and his Iranian refugee girlfriend. He told the evangelists that he has been fascinated recently by the Rosary but didn’t actually know anything about it. And so he was thrilled to be offered one as well as instructions on praying it – including how to make the Sign of the Cross correctly. He also gladly accepted a map to the parishes.

Another lengthy conversation was with a newly 3rd-stepped AA member, “Ryan”. He was raised in the Church of God and so had lots of questions about the Catholic Faith. He took many pamphlets, especially on the Sacraments as well as the one on becoming Catholic. He has an AA meeting the same time every week and so spoke of stopping by again this week. Please pray that he does?

Another person the team spoke with was “Dave”, who used to be an altar boy back when the Mass was in Latin. He accepted a Rosary and a copy of The Gospels & Acts. He did not accept a map to the parishes. Please pray that God removes the rest of the barriers for his returning to full communion with the Catholic Church?

The evangelists also spoke with a group of young women. Initially, they saw the Rosaries simply as fashion accessories. But after the team spoke with them about what it really is and how to pray it – meditating on scenes in the life of Jesus – they seemed to appreciate them more.

By the way, the illness suffered by the team leader disappeared once the evangelization station was set up and the session was underway. And it stayed away until the moment the team finished packing things up at the end of the outing, at which point it returned as bad as before.

Thank you again! We are reminded that this is God’s work, and without Him we can do nothing. Please, pray for us again today? We play to head downtown again in just over an hour. Even though it’s “Mother’s Day” here and so some of our evangelists are not available, we may have a new person joining us.

Would you please beg the Master of the harvest to send us workers? We need the help! Please also pray that He sends people to us with hearts prepared to see the need for Him and His Church in their lives. Please pray that He gives team members the words, the wisdom, and the manner to reach each of these precious souls for Christ – that they learn of His Love for them and begin to burn with love for Him in return. Please pray that much fruit for His Kingdom will come of our efforts today?

Thank you so much! And, in return, may God bless you and yours!

Thank you, everybody, SO much for your prayers last week!

We had FOUR new evangelists join us (all from the same family). Unfortunately, only one person stopped at our table the whole time. And, coincidentally, no one in the family is available to come out this week. sigh

(Here’s my guess as to why there was a lack of people to talk with last week: 1) It was Mother’s Day – which means that few people were interested in doing anything else “spiritual”. Plus, 2) there was a police-appreciation event being set up in the park – which meant we were surrounded by 15 emergency vehicles. So that furor probably also cut down the interest of any people who were in the area.)

Anyway, so today looks like it’s going to be another solo outing. PLEASE pray that God send people to us with hearts prepared to take a serious look at their need for Jesus Christ and His Church. Please also pray that He grant our team members the wisdom, the words, and the manner to reach each of these precious souls for Him. Also, would you please pray again that God sends more workers for the harvest?

Thank you again so much! May God bless you and yours!

As always, thank you for your prayer support for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization team!

There ended up being three of us out there last week. We tried something new by sending two evangelists a few blocks away to stand near a movie theater entrance. The remaining evangelist manned the table in the usual place in the center of the park.

Our mobile team returned, reporting many good encounters and several good conversations with the young adult crowd there. They were able to get several people to start thinking about returning to the Catholic Church and the Faith they had been raised in but had drifted away from in recent years. In all, it seemed a positive experience – and a good possibility (if God grants us more evangelists) for a second location that is close, and yet not in direct “competition” with our main setup (so we’re not seeing the same people who have just encountered our team a few seconds earlier).

Meanwhile, back at the table, one particularly encouraging moment happened. A man came by to thank us for teaching him how to pray the Rosary! He said it was his first experience with formal prayer and that he now understood its value. He told us that, before, he had been very distracted in prayer, but now the Rosary was really helping him stay focused. Praise be to God! (I couldn’t help thinking of the ten lepers. Wow! I thought of the thousands of Rosaries the Boise team has given away in the past going-on three years, and the hundreds of people who’ve stopped and actually tried to learn about praying it. My hope is: if one person actually came back to thank us, then perhaps – perhaps – there are also nine other people out there who have begun to pray it!)

So, please pray for us again today, Pentecost Sunday? We’re planning to head downtown in just a couple of hours. I haven’t heard any definite confirmation that other team members will be available, but God has granted us sunshine and clear skies – after a week of thunderstorms. So a lot of people may be out and about. Please pray that God’s will is done through us? Please pray that the Holy Spirit prepares people’s hearts to see their need for Jesus Christ and the Church that He founded, that He will give us the words, the wisdom, and the manner to reach each of these precious souls, that He will send us more workers for the harvest, and that much fruit for His Kingdom will come from our efforts today!

St. Thérèse of Liseux Prayer From “Story of A Soul”

May today there be peace within.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received,
and pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be content knowing you are a child of God.
Let this presence settle into your bones,
and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise, and love.
It is there for each and every one of us.

Amen. †

Lord, thank you that you are with me right now.
Your love surpasses all fear.
I give you the anxiety I feel.
I surrender all my worries to you.
Clear my mind;
Calm my heart;
Still my Spirit;
Relax my being, that, I may
always glorify you in everything
I write, speak and do.

Amen. †

Thank you so much chero23 and Pier for posting your prayers for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization team! We depend on them entirely. And thank you everybody else who prayed for us last week! Here is a report from our one evangelist who was able to go out that day.

And thank you, everybody, for your prayers today! What can I say? WHOO-HOO!!! Note to self: NEVER miss going out on Pentecost Sunday! It was non-stop wonderful!!!

First, there was an anime convention going on. So lots of people in costume, many of them non-believers. But I was able to speak to several groups of them about the call deep within to be a hero – and how being a live-out-loud Christian, far from being boring, calls for heroism in Real Life. Thrilling to see spines straighten and life come into jaded eyes! I ran out of Good News pamphlets [that present the kerygma].

Then there was a lo-o-o-ong protracted conversation with a man [not attending the convention] who had been raised Catholic, was now Bible-believing again, but had a mish-mash of anti-Catholic and native American spiritual beliefs mixed in with it – plus an attitude that made him unwelcome (it seems) in most non-Catholic Christian congregations.

The Holy Spirit granted me the ability to easily recall and quote Scriptures (not an ability I can always rely on being there), so I was able to confirm some of his spiritual instincts (possibly left over from his Catholic heritage) by using Scripture. I was also granted the ability to help him Christianize (à la early Jesuit American missionaries) his love for certain native American spiritual practices.

The Holy Spirit helped develop such a good rapport between us that I also seemed to be able to help him to not be afraid of the costumed young people (who had gathered for photo ops behind us) but to see them as the seekers they are.

Best of all, the Holy Spirit brought to mind a bit of philosophy and the ability to use it to correct one of the errors in his now private-revelation based theology. As a one-man congregation, he had begun to lean toward a dualistic belief. He told me he had recently concluded that God must have created evil, too. So, because the Holy Spirit had developed such a sense of trust between us and reminded me of the classic answer to this question, I was able to teach him in a way he could hear that evil is not a thing in itself, but simply the absence of good, like darkness is simply the absence of light. He was very grateful for this insight, and repeated it a couple of times during th conversation. Praise be to God for His Wisdom and His Mercy!!!

From there, we began addressing some of his fears about Catholicism (the usual anti-Catholic objections) by using other Scripture passages. He was just getting going good on them when we got interrupted and he took his leave. But we’d been going at it a good half-hour or 40 minutes by then. He gave his name as “Barnabus”. Please send up a prayer for him?

And please pray for us again this week? As I said, we absolutely depend on your prayer support. So, would you please pray again that God sends people to us with their hearts prepared and their eyes open to see their need for Jesus Christ and His Church? Please also pray that we are granted the wisdom, the words, and the manner to reach each of these precious souls? There are so many who have been led astray. And please also beg the Lord of the harvest to send us workers for the harvest?

Thank you again so much! May God in turn bless you and yours!
