Don’t you hate the way We’re portrayed in the liberal media?Particularly a new comedy that mocks Christ and Christians on the Comedy Channel? That the Catholic Church is painted as evil personified in the media, etc. This doesn’t bother you?It doesn’t make you angry or concerned for the souls and salvation of those who calumnize Christ and us?Casual priest jokes on television and from "friends"who lash the 98.8% of innocent priests?doesn’t it want to make you do something rather than just complain to others who just nod their heads in sympathy?Secular governments who will indoctrinate your grade 3 children to believe SSA is normal, that homosexual genital sex is not disordered, that so-called same-sex marriage is a norm, that personal masturbatory experimentation with oneself and sex outside of marriage is good and wholesome. As they JUST attempted to do in my country and soon will in yours?
This is the kind of thing we should do something about instead of cowering behind our keyboards on a Saturday afternoon?wouldn’t it be more effective for 10,100,1000,10,000,100,000,1,000,000 Catholics to gather together and pray the Rosary and Pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet publicly across our nations and shock the seculars and gather with our separated brethren to pray ecumenically, and publicly?A national day of prayer, annually, monthly, weekly,PUBLICLY?Don’t you think THAT would have a tremendous positive impact on our societies. It just has to start with two people and God guarantees He will be in our midst.
How did African-Americans gain a modicum of respect and equal treatment before the Law?By DEMANDING it.By Freedom Rides,Freedom Marches,by following the martyred Martin Luther King or the Indians get out from under disdainful racist English Imperialism-by following a gentle little man from South Africa-Ghandi.Christ is our example and we are called top be the Face of Christ to this scoffing world. We have the numbers let’s do something in the imitation of Christ that will save souls and bring respect back to Faith-All Faiths.
I hate to rain on your parade of enthusiasm for civil disobedience, but what exactly is the Church in America going to demand? In other words, to compare the current state of Catholicism in America to that of African-Americans in the Civil Rights era of the 1960s, Black South Africans under Apartheid, India under British domination, etc. is foolish.
After all, what are we going to demand? To be respected? That just sounds juvenile at many levels. After all, Catholics can vote (and then the majority vote against Catholic teachings in the secular sphere), our civil rights are respected and we can move around and do what we want freely in America. To compare our situation to that of Dr. King’s (who had to face down bullets, fire hoses, attack dogs, etc. in order to just get the right for African-Americans to vote and be treated as human beings) is, again, foolish and disrespectful to all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.
What you are proposing will just make Catholics look t(name removed by moderator)ot troublemakers since we have not made use of the instruments (i.e. voting) that are already available. If you don’t like what the media says about Catholics, then don’t listen to it. Remember, just as American Catholics are free to condemn homosexuality, the media is free to condemn what it wants. You can protest all you want, but what are you demanding? That the government shut down things you find offensive?
If you don’t like the drivel that is taught in schools, why have you not thought of running for school board? Or what about taking your kids and putting them into Catholic schools or homeschooling them?
Dr. King, Gandhi and the Black South Africans resorted to civil disobedience and other more radical groups (i.e. Black Panthers) resorted to violence because they did not have recourse through other channels. Until Catholics are willing to vote their faith, get involved politically and in other pressure groups and the like, Catholic civil disobedience would just be seen as an effort of a small group of people to make a lot of noise to cover for the apathy of the larger group.
