Brian,Are you under the impression that Protestants think that the Apostles teaching and the Bible differ?
Good question.
We’re going for the same thing you and I, I think.

And in the Philippines, every Good Friday, Catholic men process with big crosses and have themselves actually crucified. In rural America there are non Catholic believers whose worship includes close physical contact with poisonous reptiles. They seem to believe that since the Bible mentions the handling of snakes that this is a requirement of Christians. There are many other examples of misguided Christian denominations which depend on the Bible alone, as determined by their own interpretation, for guidance.
Thank G-d for the Magesterium and Catholic Tradition.![]()
Yes, we are.Brian,
Good question.
We’re going for the same thing you and I, I think.
It is called the “Catechism of the Catholic Church”. It has the teachings of the Apostles,“The Didache” and the teachings of the Apostolic Fathers along with the doctrines of faith passed down for nearly 2000 years. No other community has the gift of the Holy Spirit that was brought to us in this book. Everyone should get a copy and read it because since the scriptures were given to us from the Catholic Church, this the next best gift of the Holy Spirit.Which of those teachings weren’t enscripturated?
All of them? Some of them?
Where’s the list?
wow, putting the catechism on the same level as scripture now huh? the didache wasn’t included in scripture by the church yet you seem to put that up there as well.It is called the “Catechism of the Catholic Church”. So, there’s stuff in the CCC which is not in the Bible? It is called the “Catechism of the Catholic Church”. But nothing in the Catechism can be proven to be apostolic teaching (actually coming from an apostle) that is not found in scripture. It is called the “Catechism of the Catholic Church”. Will you stop going round and round and stick to the statements. Yes, ther are Apostolic teachings outside the scriptures and it is the teachings of the Church, you know the Church Jesus gave himself up for. One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church and her teachings. Remember, the Sacred Sciptures are only part of what Jesus said and taught. The other sayings and teachings on faith and morals must come from another source i.e., The Apostolic Church. So, there’s stuff in the CCC which is not in the Bible?

unless you are a presbyterian or congregationalist. (there are others that do select their leaders as well).Although the part that comes closest is the congregations selecting their leaders(which we do not do either I need to add).
My Church is Christs’ Church and you are demonstrating the dangers in division of that Church. You are demonstrating the dangers of “Sola Scriptura”. Can you also show me in the “Scriptures” where Jesus came down from heaven and said “Martin Luther, I will take the keys of the Kingdom of God from Peter and his successors and give them to you and for you to call my new Church, Lutheren”So, everything your church teaches cannot be found in the Bible?
Big difference. The Roman Catholic Church officially frowns on the bloody ritual, but makes little difference to the locals, who participate anyway…And in the Philippines, every Good Friday, Catholic men process with big crosses and have themselves actually crucified.
that’s not what martin luther ever claimed nor any protestant. My Church is Christs’ Church and you are demonstrating the dangers in division of that Church. There you go again, twisting words as you do with Scripture. He said nothing like what you are saying here. Have a little bit of honesty in your statements. So, everything your church teaches cannot be found in the Bible?
they don’t forbid it though. most protestant denominations officially frown on snake handling as well so it is the same argument.Big difference. The Roman Catholic Church officially frowns on the bloody ritual, but makes little difference to the locals, who participate anyway…
No, you’re changing the arguement. We were taking about their interpretation of Scripture. Since they go by Sola Scriptura too, this points out the failure of Sola Scriptura. Just like the multiplicity of denominations and cults which have sprung up because of it. Sola Scriptura is not used by Catholics, and we have nothing like it. So to link the Kristos ritual with the snake-handling, is, a bit of a stretch.they don’t forbid it though. most protestant denominations officially frown on snake-handling as well so it is the same argument.
You have surely heard Catholics argue with Oriental Orthodox, Old Catholics, or Eastern Orthodox and appeal to “Peter’s seat”.Paul’s stern admonishment of the Corinthian’s immaturity is against the backdrop of sinful division that were forming in the Corinthian church. The first indication of this is found in chapter 1:11-12, in which the initial reference to “quarrels” is made. Their quarrels have been the product of false allegiances created by the Corinthians themselves. One says, “‘I follow Paul,’ another, ‘I follow Apollos,’ another ‘I follow Cephas,’ and another 'I follow Christ.”’ Seeking to be like the world, the Corinthians vied against one another and thought themselves to be superior to their brethren (cf., 1:18-2:16). Paul’s deep concern over these false allegiances is carried right into the context of 1 Cor 3 since in verse 4 he again refers to the same spiritual cliques formed under the names of himself and Apollos. Finally, in 1 Cor 3:22 and 4:6, Paul closes this context by a warning not to boast about men, again using the names of himself, Apollos and Cephas as reference points.
How do Protestants explain this? One says, "I follow Luther (Lutherans) or I follow Calvin (Calvinists, Presbyterians) or I follow Ammon (Amish). Division is a bad thing, and should be frowned upon, by Protestants and Catholics alike.
if we see, the corinthians don’t appeal to their bishop. paul doesn’t urge them to listen to the bishop. they don’t appeal to rome or peter (the pope). paul, an apostle gives the admonishment and instruction. the apostles’ teachings have been preserved in scripture, so protestants are saying that the church got away from following the apostles’ teaching first and foremost and began including the “teachings of men” as on the same level as scripture (apostles’ teaching). that’s how they would respond (imho).Paul’s stern admonishment of the Corinthian’s immaturity is against the backdrop of sinful division that were forming in the Corinthian church. i agree that division is wrong, but the catholic church’s hands are not clean when it comes to the division either. One says, "I follow Luther (Lutherans) or I follow Calvin (Calvinists, Presbyterians) or I follow Ammon (Amish). Division is a bad thing, and should be frowned upon, by Protestants and Catholics alike.
The first divisions though occured between groups that all appealed to the three legged stool of magisterium, Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition. It seems the divisions, while multiplied in Protestantism, still occur in groups, and to a degree my group, that appeal the very things that Catholics are contending solve that. No, you’re changing the arguement.
