Uhhh, maybe I went a little “over the top” on my last post? Im sorry…
Anyhow, you seem to be getting to the right place. How does God forgive us? The answer, of course, is PERFECTLY! Seriously though, God forgave us when we least deserved it.
“But God proves his love in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” How can we, then, who have been forgiven deny another our forgiveness? Reread the parable of the unforgiving servant - you will see the ugly side of failing to forgive another: It begins at Matthew 18:23. Here is the cut to the chase…
“You wicked servant, I cancelled all that debt of yours when you appealed to me.(ie the debt was forgiven) 33Were you not bound(obligated) then, to have pity on your fellow-servant just as I had pity on you?” 34And in his anger the master handed him over to the torturers till he should pay all his debt.(A “forgiven” debt can be REASSESSED! OUCH!) 35And that is how my heavenly Father will deal with you
unless you each forgive your brother from your heart.’
The parallel to Matt 6 and the Lord’s Prayer is undeniable - I wouldnt dance on semantics with all this heavy stuff throughout Scripture - When in doubt, forgive, forgive and forgive…
