Things I still have and occasionally use. Save the rotary phone. (Though I know HOW to use one)
I bought a rotary phone at a yard sale for $3 a couple years ago. I hooked it up and it still works!
Then I unhooked it because you can’t press buttons.

I still gloat over owning it, though

I want a rotary phone and I just might have to put that on my christmas list haha! I’m a dinosaur who still has a landline 🙂

As Marshall McLuhan said, “the medium is the message.” The medium of a web forum itself speaks louder than the messages on it. Moderation is part of the medium; without mods, forums get taken over by trolls and spam. But even God cannot please everyone, so neither can mods. The resulting problem of mod action getting misinterpreted or overshadowing the discourse on a web forum is a problem of the medium of web fora, not a problem of CAF or any particular forum.

I was suspended twice for two weeks for saying something “offensive,” without anybody enlightening me as to what I was being banned for.
not for breaking any rule, but because some one was offended by my post.
Me as well. I think in my case it was just once. At any rate, if there’s one thing I can take away from this place, it’s that I have never, ever flagged (don’t even get me started) anyone since the transition to Discourse. I guess it’s because I’m pretty thick skinned, and very tolerant of other’s opinions.

Amazingly, they do still work, at least on analog landlines. We have migrated over to cellphones and TCP/IP only, and we will be getting rid of the latter (“fake landline” via Spectrum) when we reach the point that we feel we can do without it.

Does anyone use
Yes, people still use typewriters, and fountain pens, and completely mechanical clocks, and all sorts of “obsolete” stuff. Not as many as before, granted, but enough so that at least repair and maintenance businesses, and sometimes manufacturing, are still around and making money.

If you saw why I was banned, you would’ve been shocked as others were.

I was considered a liberal and got banned just before the 2008 election, the 2012 election and the 2016 election, not for breaking any rule, but because some one was offended by my post. This election, I stayed out of CAF so I wouldn’t get banned.

Posting this will probably get me banned, but so what ? 😃
I’ve been banned twice that I can remember and deserved it. This name is my third reincarnation. I have behaved slightly, slightly, better each time.

Does anyone use typewriters anymore?
No, but I have some. Dumpster diving is an amazing way to shop. It’s why I have computers that I can use floppy discs on
(Seriously, I found a book at 2nd and Charles with an intact floppy for “How to use Microsoft office”, from 1994).

We keep our landline as the number we use for registrations and stuff where we don’t want annoying sales calls on our cell phones.

No pity parties! I am a conservative and got suspended. For what? For pointing out well-financed, in-the-streets racism - by an organization that is proudly racist, but in subtler terms of course.

Wow really? That’s crazy. Are some of the mods on here liberal biased? What organisation were you referring to?

Your record might have been lost if you’d seen last weeks spam thread advertising, er, a specialty men’s medicine, before I did.

😄 Happy to flag rare items like that, so those avoiding the button don’t have to press it.
