What ‘evidence’ do we know for fact ?
I agree ex-priest JC’s most recent video explanation is lame-o, but I do see valid points in his audio explanation for why he resigned w/o legal defense [that the Church investigation could well be unfair to him … and drag on forever].
This ‘Black Sheepdog’ moniker is ridiculous … and seems quite infantile of him. Almost as if he invisions himself as the new-age internet star to the secular world, functioning apart from the Church.
But, what bothers me the most is the apparent lack of facts on this controversy. I would like to see ‘evidence’ to convict or exculpate him. But, its probably a ‘she said – he said’ matter at best, w/o hard evidence that we could make judgments about.
There certainly IS hard evidence, or SOLT would NEVER, EVER have released the statement that they did on July 5th. They must have felt completely backed into a corner to do such a thing, but Corapi has done everything from his side to subvert the normal process by filing a civil lawsuit, by having employees sign non-disclosure agreements, and by resigning before the canon process could be completed. SOLT has ordered him to drop the lawsuit and I think he may well do that - he says HE is “drawing a line in the sand,” (as though it is up to him! What arrogance!) and will not answer any more questions. So, I’m thinking he wouldn’t say those things if he intended to continue with the lawsuit, but I could be wrong.
At any rate, there would seem to be a lot of evidence from different sources, not just the accusation that got the whole ball rolling. And it is confirmed evidence. We just will probably never see it, and honestly, I am grateful for that. Who knows what kind of scandal the reality might create?
Just from reading the comments on several websites related to him, most people are quite alarmed for him and his state of mind, and mostly people are praying for him to repent and go back to his order. They tell him they are worried about him, remind him of how adamant he has been in years past about obedience, and wonder what happened to him to cause him to give up what had been his calling. Oh, sure, there are a few really angry and somewhat profane posts, but that is the extreme, somewhat matched by the rabid supporters of The Black Sheepdog on that FB page.
I think I am going to pray all the more for him. And for all priests, the ones who are being tempted but are quietly resisting with everything they have in them, and relying on the Holy Spirit instead of Harley Davidson.
