Fr John Corapi has Announced in a Video Message that he is Leaving the Priesthood

In my opinion, for what it’s worth, I believe there are great similarities between St Paul and Fr John:
  • Both are prophetic (prophet only means speaking the TRUTH)…and btw ,we are all called to be prophets). But their prophetic walk is much more intense.
  • Both talk about themselves a lot.
  • Both travelled from city ot city.
  • Both boasted of their sufferings.
  • Both rebuked the magisterium of the day. St Paul rebuked St Peter a couple of times for his false teaching.
  • Both demanded their civil rights.
  • Both had said that preaching was their main charism. Even Paul said he did not baptize.
  • Both had, if you wish, fans as it were.
  • Both were either loved or hated, no in between.
  • Both were very abrasive.
  • Both were grateful to God for His love and mercy because of their rotten past.
  • Both had mobs who would kill them in a second if they had a chance.
We cannot ascertain humility, as this is God’s domain. The outward appearance are very deceiving to gauge true humility.
 
Mother Angelica’s case was different ( read her bio if you haven’t, great book) and she had the Pope, then and now on her side.The show where he sent her a gift for her new monastery isn’t shown anymore because they thought it might seem disrespectful to the bishop. (he sent a monstrance) Mother would never have left her vocation either.

I was thinking of his book last night while reading another religious book…if he was suspended, wouldn’t his book be held up and maybe that irritated him. With Bios, you have to strike while the iron is hot, people tend to buy them when a person is “in the news” or unfortunately dead.

And to the poster that said he never said he wanted to leave, although we didn’t see the letter, SOLT said he was unhappy for years as a priest and wanted to leave that and SOLT. It’s in their statement and I doubt they are lying…he never said it wasn’t true.

On 16 March 2011, the Bishop of Corpus Christi, Texas, and the SOLT received a complaint against Fr. John Corapi, SOLT. As is normal procedure and due to the gravity of the accusation alleging conduct not in concert with the priestly state or his promises as a member of a society of apostolic life of diocesan right, Fr. Corapi was suspended from active ministry (put on administrative leave) until such a time that the complaint could be fully investigated and due process given to Fr. Corapi. In the midst of the investigation, the SOLT received a letter from Fr. Corapi, dated June 3, 2011, indicating that, because of the physical, emotional and spiritual distress he has endured over the past few years, he could no longer continue to function as a priest or a member of the SOLT. Although the investigation was in progress, the SOLT had not arrived at any conclusion as to the credibility of the allegations under investigation." end quote

That letter also preceded his announcement to us, maybe to coincide with Father’s Day/ordination, he waited.
 
I don’t see how its disrespectful to anyone to get a gift from the pope. That shows jealously at best if that’s the case.
 
I think it was “perceived by him” but not real disrespect. They didn’t want to fan the flames.

One thing I loved about Mother…no matter how much hurt, dryness and pain she had, she clung to her Jesus, she wouldn’t leave him for anything. I am in awe of that with anyone who shows that much love.

All I remember of reading a couple books on her, she had wanted mass the old fashioned way which caused quite a stir. There were liberalism that she did fight against but I cannot quote them at this point.

But she certainly told it like it was, whether lay, or priest or bishop. I reember both Frs Corapi and Groeschel saying that to sit between Mother Angelica nd Mother Teresa was a frightening thing. They didn’t fear them of course…but they knew they would be put in their place. LOL! She cracks me up…

I just dont see why people can take up this man’s rhetoric and side with him against not jsut one bishop but MANY bishops. Sounds like we have a problem of respect and obediance. I am astounded and humbled by the patience of Holy Mother Church and her Bishops.

An Open Letter to Father Corapi:

Dear Father Corapi,

Please send your blessings to my me and my family.

Father, you are in a spiritual warfare. Don’t you smell the ‘smoke of Satan’? Chaos and confusion are not of God. The truths appear to be lies and the lies appear to be truths and the truth does not matter. Logic does not matter and people are asked not to see or pay attention to what things appear to be as appearances are no longer valid. Do not use your mind nor eyes they are advice. It is all very diabolical. Satan is in our midst.

Father, rebuke him! Do not let him lure you with money, fame and power. Rebuke him in the name of Jesus! You do not have to be a general in this war, just be a soldier of Christ. Call on Our Lord and Our Blessed Mother Mary. Humility! Humility! Humility! Get away from his grasp Father, fight back! Attack him by being obedient to Holy Mother Church and obey Servant Father Sheehan. Do not let anyone advice you differently. Tell them: Get behind me Satan!

There is no comparison here with you and Moses. Moses lead an exodus to God. You are leading an exodus away from God. Those sheep are not yours. They belong to Our King and Lord Jesus Christ. Their rightful shepherds are their Bishops. They do not need for you to provide a ‘home’ for them. It was under the Bishop’s permission that you were allowed to tend them. Return the sheep. “Let my people go” says the Lord.

Father be obedient to Holy Mother Church. Many people are praying for you and offering up sacrifices. May our prayers that are going up to Heaven like incense smoke; suffocate and delude the smoke of Satan in our midst.

Father, we are not perfect only God is perfect. People will not think less of you, if you humble yourself and are obedient to the Church and as such, your Bishop. Father Sheehan’s doors are still open. Run there.

May the peace of Our Lord Jesus Christ be with you and may our Blessed Mother Mary protect you and guide you to her Son.

I will not post for forty days, as I have been neglecting my duties and responsibilities on account of this thread. I will offer it up and pray and offer up sacrifices and Mass intentions for our Bishops, Holy Mother Church and her flock and Father Corapi.

I will post to Amen and that’s it.

😊 Thank you. I forgot to say that he challenged the civil society at that time. And also, it seems to me, that St Paul seems to continually have a need defend himself…inmho.

Which bishops, specifically, would you say need “waking up?” This sort of statement is inflammatory and implies that it’s “Father vs. the Bishops.” I don’t believe that for a minute. However, if I were asked to choose sides (which no one, by the way, has asked of us), I would take the side of Christ’s apostles in a heartbeat.

It is not Fr. Corapi’s job to whip the bishops of the Church back into line. It is, however, his job to be obedient to them.
 
The way I look at it, there are saints (big S or small s) are called to challenge and others do not. It all depends on what God wants from them. And how can one question that? St Francis challenged not even a priest who was having an affair, yet, we have st catherine of siena who challenged a pope…and everything else in between…God’s ways are not our ways.🤷
 
I also feel uncomfortable not knowing all the facts, the bishops know more than we do and to tell us, is not becoming or ethical. It’s too easy to say he’s guilty or they are guilty, but I will hold my opinion for now. This way though, he made it so it will always be in limbo.
I also am ashamed that he would even think of putting audio tapes online of the mystery woman, if he did that, it would really hurt him if he decided to pursue a court case. He is defaming someone that hasn’t said one thing to anyone outside of the proper channels, hasn’t said she has confidential findings, things like that. I hope any more bashing goes on between lawyers and not on the net.

Yes, she has but I am not making a judgment, just stating a fact. She had a facebook account and also stated she would bring him down…

Corapi’s accuser is a disgruntled ex-employee who assaulted Ruffatto and another employee upon being fired and threatened in front of witnesses to “destroy” the priest. Ruffatto also noted that, since Santa Cruz Media is a private corporation and not in any way affiliated with the Church or claiming a “Catholic” status, they are not under any obligations to suspend promotion and sale of Fr. Corapi’s videos.

I do presume Corapi’s innocence, but he is the one supporting the right of his Bishop to suspend him - he also says there is no chance that he would ever have his faculties reinstated so that he can function as a priest in the Catholic Church. He supports the jurisdiction of the bishop to make this happen. How does this make his Bishop “guilty”?

Corapi noted how much pressure he is under from various sources that put him in a difficult position, which he can appreciate, even if he does not appreciate the action that was taken in his own case. He has always enjoyned the faithful to pray for, support, and obey the Bishops. In accepting his status as suspended (permanently) he is exercising obedience to his bishop.

I got the distinct impression that the canon laws were not followed in this case. Maybe that is not accurate, either. Who knows how many kookie complaints the Bishop has had to deal with over the years! Maybe he just wants Corapi to go work under some other Bishop who has time to deal with such things?

I guess I am at a loss to understand how any of these are “thrown under the bus”. He has accepted that the investigative process will not result in reinstatement of his faculties, he has allowed the allegations of the accuser stand, and he has obeyed his bishop by accepting his status. 🤷

He took the advice of his civil and canon lawyers on the matter. We will probably never know the details.

So, how do you know enough to determine he has “thrown her under the bus”? As it stands now, her allegations will permanently prevent him from ministering as a priest. It seems like she got at least part of what she wanted (though the financial settlement may be more important, especially given the news about selling of his rosary and the website).

I do not know him, but I will take your word for it. I am sure any Bishop that had Corapi in his diocese must be a very patient and longsuffering man. I imagine that Corapi foments a never ending list of complaints from people. I never listened to his youtube clips till this week, but I am mindful that his expressions must engender a great deal of hostility among other bishops, politicians, and people in power, like the administrators of Notre Dame.

You say several times that John Corpai is permanently suspended. That is not the case. That was made clear from the quotes by his religious superiors in the NCR article. He, like every other priest under investigation, was temporarily suspended. He, like many priests before him, could have been reinstated if the investigation proved him innocent.

The investigation under cannon law did not permanently suspend him. However, his decision to pursue his civil case before the church finished his investigation does mean that the investigation cannot proceed. His status “in limbo” is a direct result of his own actions.

You also say that the Bishop “just wants Corapi to go work under some other Bishop who has time to deal with such things”. That is a highly uncharitable thing to say about any Bishop. Yes, I’m sure it is difficult to be in charge of a priest who does not live in your diocese and does not have facilities to function as a priest in the diocese where he does live. However, to claim that Bishop of Corpus Christi (or the Bishop of Helena) just can’t be bothered, is unbecoming, even if said in jest.

I am very saddened by this whole situation. The worst of it being what some Catholics are saying about bishops in a case in which we all know so little.
