I am sure I share the sentiments of my fellow Orthodox Christians in expressing shock, horror and outrage at this vicious and sacrilegious act. May God welcome this martyred priest into His Kingdom, and may his memory be eternal. Prayers for the recovery of the sister and any others injured.

I need to add the word “cowardly” to the description of the act.

It’s a pejorative term for the Islamic State that is used in the Middle East. It’s really the Arabic acronym for the Islamic State (similar to how people in the west use ISIL), but for some reason IS has declared it to be wrong and have threatened violent retribution (such as cutting out the tongue or even death) on anyone who uses the term Daesh. Which to my mind is reason enough to use it exclusively to refer to the Islamic State.
IIRC, the reason they dislike the abbreviation Daesh is that it has a very close homophone that is an obscene or at least rude word in Arabic.

This is horrible attack. Yet it’s sad–not equally sad–to see people falling back on xenophobia and, yes, racism in response to this. Not surprised, but sad.

racism? A Catholic priest was murdered by an islamic extremeist. Don’t tell me this could not happen here…those ISIS types could very well sneak in with the refugees that are escaping persecution.

Again, even better reason to use it. Why even give them the legitimacy of calling them ISIL or IS. If these terrorists don’t like being called Daesh, then it’s clear we should be calling them Daesh at all times.

Absolutely. He was killed for his faith.
Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude and insult you, and denounce your name as evil on account of the Son of Man. Rejoice and leap for joy on that day! Behold, your reward will be great in heaven. For their ancestors treated the prophets in the same way.

Luke 6:22-23

It can be hard to accept, but we have been warned.

No mention of Rouen being the site of St. Joan of Arc’s burning at the stake. May Our Lady of Victories; St. Michael the Archangel; and St Joan of Arc help bring Daesh to justice.

Blessings,
Cloisters

So said the priest and Levite–best not to get involved.

Problem is, many, if not the vast majority, of these Daesh type people are not “sneaking in”, they’re home grown. Daesh, to their vile credit, has seemingly organized a very effective off site recruiting system that radicalizes people who don’t have to sneak in, because they’re either legally in the country they eventually attack, or worse still are natives of that country such as Mateen (the Orlando shooter who was an American)

Very interesting, just saw it mentioned on TV.

what are you TALKING ABOUT? This is not like the man beaten on the road to Jericho.
Code:
If this could happen in FRANCE, it could happen in the USA. We are not in a Utopia.

Sadly ironic that this was the site of Joan of Arc's death.

All the Saints and Martyrs of France, pray for your country and the whole world. Amen.

News emerging of two armed attackers taking a priest and others hostage in a church in Rouen.

The attackers have been killed by security forces, but sadly it appears a priest has been murdered. May his soul rest in peace.

Amen.

That’s true. Even here, they manage to make “converts” (“perverts”?) of native Indians from well-settled (and often quite well-to-do) families, and not illegal migrants from the Bangladesh border, which is what our government fails to realize. 😦

Just awful . … perhaps it is time for France to let citizens own guns for self defense and concealed carry

Rip father Jacques. He is truly a martyr
I don’t think a priest would be armed while celebrating Mass.

Perhaps armed security which I would hate to see. I think I read the fwo attackers entered through a back entrance.

Wow so not only did they kill the priest, they performed a perverted sermon in the sanctuary before executing him.

Also coming out that one of them was already a convicted terrorist who was supposed to be wearing an electronic monitoring anklet? Why wasn’t he in jail?
