What’s true? That a woman who has an abortion is a murderer or a baby killer? Yes I agree it may be true in some circles. I don’t know. Does the Catholic Church call the woman a murderer and baby killer and advocate to put her on trial for murder and sentencing her to imprisonment, or worse yet, capital punishment for “murdering her baby”?
But the poster you were responding to said it “is rhetoric that makes people cringe, not because it’s true, but because it refuses to acknowledge the many nuances inherent to an honest, productive discussion about abortion”.
And that’s what people seem to miss here. That not all faiths and religions, not even all Christians agree with the Catholic Church on what the truth is about abortion or any number of things. Which makes it an issue difficult to legislate while still maintaining religious freedom. And no, because I’ve little doubt it will come up. It always does. But I can’t substitute “slavery” or the Holocaust into the equation. I know people try to do so, but I can’t. There is just far less consensus remaining yet today when it comes to abortion.
