Gamers, favorite consoles?

I am concerned about the tendency towards DLC, too. I just want to buy a game once and be done – not have to pay for the thing in increments. I can understand the rationale that DLC can prolong the life of a game by adding to it, but I think it makes it too tempting for developers to put out a game too soon and/or to hold things back specifically so they can charge for more later. That’s another reason I like Nintendo. They’re much slower to adopt these types of things than their competitors. Though they are moving more and more in that direction.
For me, so long as a DLC is not something like a limited-time offer or a seasonal thing, I’d take interest. I think they have their place if you know how to execute their content (and what that content could be). It might be a while before I can get a flat screen for a PS3 but even I get excited every time I see ads like this.

On the other hand, bug fixes and new difficulty modes are a turn-off for obvious reasons. Luckily I have yet to hear of a game that tried to pull that fast one.

It’s one of the reasons I decided to dig out my old Saturn. 😛
👍

When I was sick of the current gen awhile back, I bought a Turbografx-16 😃
Haven’t consoles always been region specific?

I guess it’s not a big deal for me. I cannot ever think of a time where I really wanted a game that wasn’t available in my area. 🤷

Region-lock on home consoles in normal, but portable system, no, not until 3DS. It’s because the fact that someone might travel around the world with a portable system and buy games makes region-locking contradictory to its purpose (at least until 3DS apparently). I myself was interested in Japanese games that weren’t often localized to the US, so it was a bigger concern for me.

If I’m not mistaken…I think the new Nintendo Wii-U supports DLC further pushing the DLC mentality 😦

As someone who bought vanilla MVC3, I felt the reverse.

I liked how Diablo 2 handled their expansion, Lord of Destruction. A tangible disc, I can buy at a store. If DLC gets out of control, like it did with Diablo 3, we’ll have more dumb stuff like paying real world money for virtual swords and army that aren’t even real.

Being just a casual gamer, the move towards online content really bothers me. I don’t want to play against other online players, because I don’t spend hours and hours or hundreds of dollars perfecting my gaming skills. The most online game I have ever played is Runescape, and even then I avoided all interaction with other online players (not to mention I didn’t play very much or very long.

I guess all it means is that I will not keep up with the console improvements, thus saving lots of money. (though I will be sad when my old systems and old tv to go with them die.

Actually, this is one of the reasons that so many people are against online-only games. The games do have single player modes…but the company still forces you to be connected to the internet to play them. It’s supposed to combat piracy, but it really doesn’t work at doing that. It just makes it harder on the people who buy the games

I think I’d vote for N64 with SNES in a close second. You just can’t beat classics like Ocarina of Time, Starfox 64, Paper Mario… We still have the consoles at my parents’ house but I can’t find any of the games :(. So I have to download them from the Wii Shop Channel but Nintendo doesn’t seem to like to upload N64 games. I’m trying to get all 120 stars on Super Mario 64 right now. I only got 119 as a kid 🤷
So yeah, those are my two favorites, with the SNES being #1. First console I ever owned, and I’ve made so many memories with it. Super Mario World, Yoshi’s Island, Super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy III( aka FF6), the Donkey Kong series, Secret of Mana, Super Metroid, and so much more.
Secret of Mana was my absolute favorite game when I was little. 👍 My brother and I played that game so much back in 1997-1998. I just finished a rerun of Super Mario RPG. Another excellent game.

Ah, I got you. That makes sense.

I guess I don’t know enough about how the business works to really understand why companies want things region locked. 🤷

I’m just glad they don’t region lock CDs. :o

I’ve seen this on fb, it is really cool, but can you imagine trying to pick out what you are going to play???
This is kinda true, I have 123 game on my steam and 10 more on my ps3. Some days its kinda hard but when in doubt play an mmo 😛

Not only that, can you imagine figuring out how to hook them all up simultaneously to your TV? And even after doing that, it would probably take me 15 minutes to figure out how to switch the settings to view the console I am trying to play. 😛

I just realized I have 7 mmos installed on my gaming labtop which I also use for my video game design class.

World of Warcraft, Secret World, Neverwinternights, Planetside 2,Starwars the old republic, EvE online (also got dust on the ps3 and DC universe online), Star Trek Online.

The value of my steam account is about 12,000 dollars (dlc included) and I spent 2000 of that on the mmo’s listed above both with subscriptions and life time memberships.

So in essence I have a set up like that picture its just not physical.

I don’t play many online games. It’s just not a genre I enjoy much. Though when I was younger, I did have some fun with Dark Age of Camelot and Anarchy Online. Have you ever tried those?

When I was younger, there was no online gaming. 😛 😉 😃

The only online gaming I have ever really done is Mario Kart Wii. But I can only do that in small doses because half the time I end up racing against a group of hackers who just want to mess with everyone.

Yeah, there are always a few people that try to spoil the whole thing. That’s why I almost always play single player. Or local, if my sister is visiting. 😃

This might sound ironic depending on where one comes from in online games but you can find it as another outlet for socializing. 😛
Check this out!
