The point is that the whole so-called ‘controversy’ is baseless and without relevance. It is no more relevant for non-Catholics of any orientation to complain about a Catholic software application than for me to complain about a meditation app or scriptural app designed by Methodists or Lutherans for their respective members. Non-Catholics have no standing to complain about the i-Phone app.

And people with SSA who are practicing Catholics will not be complaiining about it because such people know full well that in their commitment there can be no objection about homosexual activity (what the Examen asks, not SSA) being listed as a sin.

Perhaps they can be appeased by throwing into the app a few things they consider to be sins.

It is good to stand solidly against the so called “gay rights” movement as it stands today because what they’re after is an abomination and as we all know they won’t be satisfied until they have deprived us of our rights, for instance to disallow gay “unions” to take place with in the very walls of Holy Mother Church.

But we should also try to remain compassionate towards these people, and remember they too are created in the image of God.

To tell you the truth, I find myself increasingly uncharitable these days in light of the recent campaign of the gay lobby over here. Charitable thoughts I once held for the homosexual community has now been replaced by suspicion which, I pray, does not regress to old prejudices.

You should however, fight to maintian a charitable attitude towards individuals. I can sympathise with your feelings with regard to the “gay community” at large, really I can. When I read stuff like this, it’s just so upsetting.

But you may find, as has been indicated here, that you will find “homosexuals” or some perfer to say “people with SSA” who live Chaste lives of such high morality in the good graces of God and Church. I would not be so quick to dismiss these people, to the contrary I think they’re wonderful and should be help up as a model for the rest of us to follow.

Control your selfs, straight or gay for that matter, control your sexual urges. No one wants to anymore, they want to view sex as a right. That’s why the Church is being held by so many as the evil empire.

The launch of an iPhone app that guides Catholics through confession has prompted a furious response from gay rights groups, who accuse it of “promoting anti-gay spiritual abuse”.

How silly! I think the gay rights groups should realise its not all about them-them-them and should stop feeling sorry for themselves. Honnestly some people are only happy when they’re miserable.

This makes me think of: “I’m allowed to believe what I want! It’s my freedom of speech! You’re not allowed to believe anything that I don’t like!!! That infringes on my freedom!!!”

Precicely! :clapping: The members of the fundamentalist groups are the first to complain about opression but are quite happy to be opressive to anything they themselves dont like. Hypocrites. Heres a tip for them, if you’re not Catholic or arent interested then dont buy the ap and get on with your own life. Simples, as Alexander the Meerkat would say.
For example, my husband who is an Anglican, loved the idea of the ap and was actually the person who told me about it. ‘Isnt that a cool idea,’ he beamed. He didnt go, ‘oh the Vatican is being anti-protestant!’ Instead he embraced the idea and apreciates it for what is, which is an ap FOR penitents and not AGAINST anyone.

Absolutely and like you say, gay or straight, we should learn to controll our selves. I have friends who are gay and they’re wonderful people and are not represented by these fundamentalist groups at all. They just live their lives and dont try to impinge themselves onto anyone else or try to contoll them with political correctness. Its the thought-police who get on my nerves.​

I saw the first attacks through my facebook when engadget (or techcrunch?) reported the launch of the app. First comment was “How could apple have approved this???”

In this age of political correctness, if questions were raised about why Apple approved of an app being launched for other certain religious groups then the questioner would be called racist or intolerant. Its just fashionable to blast Catholics and Christians as a whole these days and people who are full of anger and hatred have to vent at someone and the safest people to do it to is Christians because they wont suffer the consequences of the PC brigade.

The more I think about the matter the more I cant believe anyone could get so angry about a simple app. They’re not complaining about the sacrament of reconciliation its self, but the confession app is just too much!

Christianity in general and Catholisism in particular is seen as being an assult on “sexual liberation” and sexual “tolorance”. The idea is this, that sex trancends being a right. More than being a right, sex is billed as being unavoidable, and an aboslute necessity for life. Basically think of it in these terms, what of the CC was telling you breathing air was sinful, and there for you shouldn’t do it. You’d go bonkers and say “that’s aboslutlye stupid and hateful”. This is the context that in particular so called “gay rights” groups view sex. They literally go so far as to try and preach the health benefits of sex and try to bill it as if avoiding sex is sealing your fate to an early and pittiful death (I am not making this up).

This is why these groups are protesting apps like this, because an app like this is a shining reminder that this is not the case. Sex isn’t a necessity, more over avoiding sex outside of the maritial context has been proven to be very healthy for you because you don’t get STD’s and you don’t have unwed children. So in the interests of propetuating their lies, they claim this is hateful, that it would deny “gay rights”. Truely it reminds me of the passages from Isais that came up in last weeks bible study

Oh dont worry I know you’re not making it up. I know exactly what you mean and I’ve heard it all before. It has literally got to the point where secularists will bully those who dont wish to have sex by calling them frigid or prudes or will even slap them with the label ‘anti sex’ when really they just have respect for their own bodies and like you said, wont catch any STDs. Im not a doctor or anything but last time I looked, not catching STDs is a good thing. Most of my girl friends are unhappy with the way they lost their virginity (which should be a special, blessed, loving thing) and its because they were far too young and only did it because they felt pressured not only by the boy but by their other friends who were convinced that you’re not a complete person unless you have sex and I fail to see whats “liberal” about that. Its not liberating at all, its degrading and soul destroying. Cosmopolitan and Sex in the City have so much to answer for. And about sex being a ‘right’ I read about a man in the newspapers a while ago who employed prostitutes (Im not passing judgement on the prostitutes because I have a place in my heart for them, most of them have fallen into that life through no fault of their own and alot of them have been brutally trafficked and drugged) because it was the only way he could have sex and stated that it was his ‘human right’ to have it. Does this also mean boys have the right to pressurise school girls into losing their virginity because its their human right to have sex? Does this mean predators have the human right to go out and rape someone? Absolutely not and the rights activists would probably agree with me there but still continue to preach that care free sex is “liberating” and essential to live a fullfilling life, as if there isnt more to life than just sex.
