Do tell me why “sexual orientation” is somehow elevated to something other than what it is, a particular focus to obtain sexual satisfaction? Those with SSA prefer sexual practices with persons of the same sex. It’s no better or worse or more elevated than someone who gets sexual satisfaction from toys or porn or staring at women’s shoes.
How do you feel about this statement?

Those with OSA prefer sexual practices with persons of the opposite sex. It’s no better or worse or more elevated than someone who gets sexual satisfaction from toys or porn or staring at women’s shoes.
Homosexualist isn’t meant to be pejorative but rather descriptive of someone who is of an activist bent. There are many homosexuals who simply want to live their lives in peace, enjoy their friends and family, go to work and not think about propagandizing children or marching in a Gay Pride Parade. However those with SSA whose life revolves around homosexual activism is a different manifestation of this sexual orientation.
Most LGBT who go about their lives in peace couldn’t do so without LGBT activists.
As to your conclusion that “the ban does nothing but harm” you may be an expert on your opinion but you have zero facts to back it up. You are obviously a strong apologist for the homosexualist movement and your ox is being gored so you object. That parents do not want you or others propagandizing or lauding the joys of homosexuality seems to be completely lost on you and your fellow apologists.
Well in the past month in Russia, skinheads have lured and tortured gay teenagers. Not to mention the attacks and police crack downs on LGBT rights protesters. Say what you will about ‘homosexualists,’ these are basic human rights to protest, peaceable public assembly and and self expression that are being suppressed. It’s unfathomable that anyone could support it.

Because cracking down on homosexuals and their lifestyle will bring economic prosperity to the Russian people? Or Russian leaders want to maintain their consistently high standard of morality?
Or might Russia have learned from suffering the lawlessness and low moral standards of their recent atheist history, seen how the Human Genome Project failed to produce a genetic, scientific cause for homosexuality, seen how America’s atheist progressives see a new opportunity to use the promotion of homosexuality as a way to curb world overpopulation since it seems it can be first accepted by society then eventually learned since there’s still no proof that people are born that way and there’s no heaven or hell consequences, witnessed how Americans can be so easily mainipulated by the unelected media and academics, read the history of Caligula and how it destroyed an empire, and they are waiting until we do the same, without ever firing a shot???

“OSA” as you call it produces families. The family is the building block of society. Society protects individuals (including hedonists of every kind). So, no - “OSA” is nothing at all like sex that is for pleasure only. It is the fuel that keeps civilization going from generation to generation.

As noted below although I can’t help but remind you that heterosexual sex is the way that society continues. Heterosexual sex is not only ordained by God but if you don’t think God’s plan has any merit, just consider basic biology. In order to reproduce there must be the meeting of sperm and egg. Thus the over-riding purpose of sexual activity within the entire animal kingdom is reproduction. That hetersexual sex between married couples is also a way of bonding as well as having the necessary components to produce a life is shall we say frosting on the cake. In contrast sexual activity that cannot possibly result in creating life is simply for the sexual fulfillment, pleasure and enjoyment. Whether it’s two gay guys, a sole practitioner so to speak, a porn viewer or any other “dead” sex, there is a complete disconnect between the physical parts and their intended use.
Most LGBT who go about their lives in peace couldn’t do so without LGBT activists.

Another grand overstatement. One note about those with other than ordered sexual practices, their issues are entirely self reported. You might be surprised to know that for thousands of years, gay and Lesbian people managed to live quite successfully and peacefully before gay pride parades or demands that six year old be “educated” on why Heather Has Two Mommies. I’m sure you as a homosexualist can name some of the very successful homosexuals of the past who were celebrated for their talents rather than for their private lives.

I am not discounting that in some situations gays were persecuted and treated dreadfully. I saw this at my former employer which was one of the reasons they are former. I am not a proponent of persecuting anyone for the way they want to live their lives as long as they don’t feel the need to interfere with the way I live my life. If Joe and Bob want to set up housekeeping, own property together, and cavort in bed that’s just fine by me and I imagine by 99.9% of Americans. They don’t need to march or wear rainbow tee shirts to get the message across. I’m all for treating human beings as human beings.

Somehow you’ve managed to conclude that because I don’t think adults should be interfering with a parent child bond with respect to religious beliefs or sexual mores that I approve of Skinheads torturing gay teenagers. Wow that’s quite a stretch but as usual when you don’t have a real argument you have to resort to fabrications and assumptions.

This, this, this.

Say that again when the Russian LGBT community starts torturing heterosexuals in the street in broad daylight. At the moment, the majority of activism and vitriol in Russia as it relates to homosexuals is that of heterosexuals and religious zealots including Orthodox priests committing acts of violence against homosexuals. How dare you try to downplay those gross violations of human rights down to mere support of “traditional” marriage and family structure.
Frankly this is laughable in comparison to the real violence, killings, torture that is happening to Christians all over the world, particularly at the hands of Muslims. As I watched the news this morning there were reports of 50 deaths in Egypt including a 10 year old girl on her way home from a Bible class. A priest was beheaded by Muslim extremists recently. Churches have been torched.

And you’re in high dudgeon because Moscow isn’t allowing gay pride parades? Oh please…

I did a search this morning and found ONE report on a lefty blog about ONE teenager who was supposedly beaten by anti-gay Neo Nazis. Recently in America a 13 year old white boy was beaten by three black teens because he didn’t want them selling drugs. Violence, torture, killings and beatings do happen. That doesn’t mean this egregious behavior is justified but in the scheme of things, not being able to wear pink triangles or being fined the equivalent of $92.80 for planning to do a pro-gay film hardly merits a second look in comparison to REAL violence against Christians and other innocents throughout the world.

Again your ox is being gored so you’re objecting but look at the big picture and tell me you think there is any equivalence.

One thing worth mentioning which I don’t think anyone else has: Demographically, Russia is a dying country. The government no doubt realizes this, and is making efforts to reverse the demographic trend. It’s not at all certain it will succede.

The last thing a country which desperately needs more children should want is to promote or even tolerate sterile, essentially masturbatory, sexual practices. Hence the hostility toward “gay rights”.

If this has been addressed elsewhere in this thread, I apologize. I didn’t read all the previous posts!

In my search to find evidence of persecution of homosexuals in Russia I found this report

salon.com/2013/08/11/journalist_flees_russia_to_keep_family_safe_amid_persecution_of_homosexuals/

What was interesting is the way lies were woven within the story. Most readers would simply pass over them but as I read they struck me as the way the homosexual agenda has been advanced, with lies. Sympathy is based on specious arguments and contradictory statements.

If you open the article you will see a photo of a pro-homosexual protest. Signs(can’t read Russian so don’t know what they say), screaming protestors, the ubiquitous rainbow banner that has ruined yet another previously positive word.

Lie number one: Homosexuals want to live quietly and at peace with their fellow Russians
The reality is that making your private life public is not accepted by a large (and getting larger!) majority of Russians. As one Deputy Minister said, they do not want one group to inflict its practices and morals upon another group. T

Lie number two: the subject reportedly “has three children with her (female) partner.” THAT is not only a lie but a biological impossibility. They may be co-parenting the children and the children may be biologically related to one of the women but they did not have the children together. No matter how much the two women care for each other the reality is that it took a man to produce the child. That these children were bred like livestock rather than being born into a man/woman marriage is yet another reality that is ignored.

Lie number three: the subject claims that due to her outspoken views and activism she is “no longer seen as a journalist but as someone with a pink triangle.” Well once she became an activist, had an agenda, spoke from one side of an issue, she ceased to be a journalist. Why should she be considered a journalist when that term is supposed to indicate someone who reports facts, with little or no “spin” in the story.

But this is how the homosexualists have pushed their agenda. With lies, half truths and fabrications. They do not want to simply live peacefully and because of that are actually running into a wall of opposition. The Russians are pushing back.

Sound arguments and observations, Lisa. The “they’re all like that” concept about this subject is the same as saying all blacks, whites, Mexicans are all like that, whatever “that” happens to be. In the United States gay people are beaten and worse. The crimes committed are the fault of the perpetrators alone. When they are arrested, nobody else is charged with anything, only they are.

But here, some will do anything to turn this valid law into a series of fantasies that exist only in their minds and are designed to obscure the fact that right now, in the United States, 5 year olds get a story book showing two adult men kissing and parents are automatically not notified. Who believes that this is a good thing? The State? That’s wrong. Parents have the right to protect their immature children from anything like that. The Russians see that and have responded appropriately. They are rightly horrified that parents no longer have the right to know what their kids are being exposed to in school.

In the past, before gay sex was to be enshrined as gay marriage, I worked with gay people and you know what? Whatever they did on their own time was none of my business. The lesbian I worked with was never in my face, or anybody else’s, about the fact that she was gay. We just did our jobs and I didn’t give it a second thought. There was something called privacy back then, but now it’s in your face as propaganda.

Keep up the good work,

Ed

Ed, with regard to the in-the-face attitudes of certain gay people, I don’t approve of some of the tactics used by gay activists, especially when they infringe on the rights of others, such as religious institutions and their affiliates. However, at the same time, I think the civil rights of gay people today would be virtually non-existent without the gay activists and leaders, just as the civil rights of Blacks and other minorities would be non-existent. Sometimes it takes in-the-face attitudes to effect change. You never gave it a second thought when you worked with gay people because many of them were quiet about their lack of equal rights and even may have learned to accept it as a way of life. It took outspoken leaders to make changes, many for the better despite the excesses, which are typical of groups that have formerly been discriminated against and oppressed.

Then how do you propose sodomy laws, indecency laws and employment discrimination laws that LGBT activists fought decades ago be overturned so, as you say, LGBT people could live in peace? What about the social pressures of shame and silence that mainstream societies have placed on LGBT people? What about negative stereotypes? Why should it be left to someone else to fight stereotypes? Who else would care about it but activists? Not everyone is as good as you, Lisa. And it can’t be expected that every single person will one day fall in line. Because we both know it hasn’t happened yet.

This ban isn’t limited to one-on-one child-stranger contact, which in the best case harmless but highly unusual. This also applies to public demonstrations, like pride parades, where in less restrictive places than Russia are large public events that anyone can find out about. If a parent doesn’t want a child to go to or see a pride parade, then they don’t have to take them. If a parent sees a pride parade on the street the parent can go somewhere else. This law is a larger suppression of dissent and opposition and a creation of a false-enemy that the ruling oligarchs can successfully exploit to maintain legitimacy with the public at large. It’s about appearances and LGBT people in Russia are paying the price.

You fight injustice just as others have done, through the courts, through legislation, by being positive examples instead of warnings. Use of film such as “Philadelphia” have far more and far more POSITIVE impact than loud protests, displays of vulgarity, and outrageous costumes. I live in a very pro gay community and frankly have gone from being an advocate to utterly disgusted because it’s clear that there is a very loud cohort that is militant in providing the most disgusting public displays. If your movement wants to do itself a favor, the repulsive parodies with priestly or religious costumes, the men in rainbow tutus, the leather dudes prancing around in a thong and carrying a bullwhip, and the children dragged along as props are a complete turn off. And if it’s any consolation I feel EXACTLY the same way about the anti-gay Westboro Baptist Church and their protests.

The sodomy laws, although rarely enforced were defanged by Lawrence v Texas. As to the Russian situation, their sodomy laws were overturned as well. The reality is that there were few actual prosecutions of homosexuals for sodomy (or as sometimes the case the term also applied to heterosexuals). Rules regarding contracts, employment and housing have all expanded to allow gays and Lesbians to live in peace.

Now with activism your agenda has forced the military to repeal DADT when in reality those in the military are not supposed to have ANY sexual component as a part of their military service. Making someone’s sexual preferences public is not necessarily a positive move. I predict we will have many more sexual assaults but they will be homosexual in nature. The power of an NCO or an officer over the enlisted is substantial and keeping a lid on one’s sexual interests is a way to prevent this from occurring. We also have a private club (Boy Scouts) pressured to allow openly gay members although again, boy scouts are not supposed to be engaged in ANY sexual activity or sexual talk or sex education. But no mind that DADT worked fine for all scouts, now we have concerns about gay sexual activity encroaching on a club for BOYS…not men BOYS, and single boys at that. Disgusting! Finally we come to marriage which is now a meaningless concept because it is no longer unique but can refer to any arrangement as decided by the individuals and their state. Oh and don’t let me get started about the private businesses sued because they did not want to participate in homosexual events.

You see it’s not the nice gay couple that wants to buy a home or the competent Lesbian that wants to keep her well paying job. It’s about changing society, tossing tradition, ethics and morals, not to mention biology out of the window. My sympathy for your cause decreases every day. You have simply gone too far.

Again, you make my point; PUBLIC demonstrations. If it were a matter of peaceable protests for specific and reasonable (I know, that’s subjective) it would be one thing but unfortunately the passion for the cause often spills over into disruptive and vulgar displays. As to the theory if you don’t want children to see, don’t take them in the area, why should the rights of one group be subverted to the agenda of another? In addition, as you said these protests are in large public areas where people are enjoying a day in the park or downtown. It seems that the rights of a small minority has precedence over the average citizen.

It’s interesting that the anti-gay sentiment is increasing in Russia. I have to wonder, as some posters have noted, if they see what has happened in America and Europe and hope to nip this in the bud. You know the saying, give an inch and they take a mile. I think that is a pretty accurate observation about the homosexual rights movement.

Well said, indeed. I hope Russia continues to learn from the mistakes America is currently making, and preserves the sanctity of the family and marriage.

As a gay man in the military, I can assure you that there has been little to no problematic events since the repeal. There have, however been positive changes. For instance, I no longer have to worry about being punished for being honest with the people I work with. While discussions about sexual activity obviously have no place in the work environment, there are other types of discussions that are completely appropriate, and occur every day. For years I have heard my straight collegues talk about what they did over the weekend with their wives, or girlfriends. Now I can be honest with my coworkers, which is important because we function as a team built on trust, and we form much closer bonds than are seen in most civilian workplaces. I can now say things like “My boyfriend and I saw a movie this weekend.” I can now introduce my partner to these people who are a very important part of my life without fear of being punished. This is not the same as expressing sexual interests or desires to my coworkers, but is instead, including them in my life, the same way they’ve always included me in theirs. We are a team that consists of both men and women, and we’ve never had any problems with people acting on sexual attraction to one another, because we are like brothers and sisters, we just don’t think of each other as potential romantic interests, but even if that were to become a problem, there is nothing to say that it is isolated to the gay service members… in fact it’s more likely to happen amongst straight servicemembers, simply because there are more of them.

Well just speaking from experience, I suspect no one was astonished to learn you were gay once DADT was lifted. Most people aren’t stupid or naive. Those gays and Lesbians drummed out for their sexual orientation were often the target of specific persons wanting rid of them for other reasons and thus sexual orientation was a convenient excuse. A cohesive band of brothers is not likely to have one of their own tossed out because of having to share a shower with a gay guy.

As to your experience of being ‘brothers and sisters’ I have heard from so many SMs that this is not the norm. I used to specialize in supporting Medics and as a result learned that the two most common requests are DepoProvera and Ibuprophen. According to my adopted troops, sexual activity was quite common despite the prohibitions and consequences. Further many of the females expressed sincere concerns about assaults, particularly by their superiors. Other females deliberately became pregnant in order to get shipped home from a deployment. As to gays, my AF SSGT said that this was well known and at one point he had two gay roommates who told him when NOT to come into their shared quarters.

IOW I suspect that the positive impact is negligible and the downside of more sexual assaults as superiors now can be openly gay and thus one potential threat that would stop them preying on their troops has been removed. I think DADT was a benefit for the military and kept a more equal footing among the troops rather than making one particular activity a semi-protected class.

But anyway not much to do with the thread. 🤷

You would find the positive impact of the repeal of DADT negligible, until you have to live it. And as for the “brotherhood” situation not existing in your experience, perhaps that’s because your experience is with the Air Force, and not an actual ground combat service.

Just curious, Lisa, what other reasons do you mean in which sexual orientation was used as an excuse? Won’t you at least acknowledge the positive experience of this serviceman, who can now openly talk about his boyfriend without worrying that someone might inadvertently mention it to someone else and word will eventually get out to the officers in command? I know that would mean giving Obama, to whom you admit to being allergic, a tiny bit of credit for repealing DADT, and backing down somewhat on your position regarding DADT, but why not pay some heed to this soldier’s first-hand experience?

Sorry, moderator, I typed this before reading your notice. I will not comment further on this matter.
