Well I have no issue with non-medical interventions like that. I was referring specifically to the medical interventions. Rare or not, they’re not without risk.

I’m glad that at least here in Australia it hasn’t yet come to this.
In backgrounds where Iess accepted such as my Slavic background
Probably the first transgender that ever caught my attention is Andreja Pejic. Born in Bosnia and emigrated to Australia with her mother and brother.
They seem epic, I’ve seen some of their modelling. She was also in that David Bowie film clip with Tilda Swinton; amazing!

They’re illegal on children in both the US and Australia. UK too. Indeed most counties have laws on this.

I stated opposition to medical intervention. Hormone blockers are a medical intervention.

Breast removal isn’t done often here if hormone blockers are used soon enough, but it is legal surgery here.

Ah. Sorry for my misunderstanding, I was dashing back and typing. Hormone blockers have been used for ages and have very few risks, they’re only given when a psychologist believes the patient is at risk.

Naw. I’m just telling them the pronouns I prefer. Saying that I’m female excludes the gender neutral pronouns that I are increasingly my first choice.
But you are female, right? I believe you said so in a previous post, and you list “She/Her” on your Catholic Answers profile.

If a woman (who identifies as a woman – not talking about transgender or intersex here) requests to be referred to as “they/them.” wouldn’t that request give the appearance that the requester is self-centered and controlling? If someone made this request, it would seem to me that this person is trying to control the speech of her peers, to the point of expecting everyone to violate the normal rules of English whenever they talk about her, simply to satisfy her personal preference. If you made this request, I doubt that you would intend it to come across that way, but do you see how it might sound that way?

Or maybe there is more to the story that I don’t know, that makes my assumptions about your situation invalid. If so, then please ignore my previous paragraph.
Of course. If people continue to misconstrue GID and being transgender as an ideology. I think those folks aren’t doing their own research.
It’s easy to dismiss people who disagree with you as simply being misinformed. Sometimes that is the case. We are not all aware of the same facts. But not all disagreement is based on lack of information. In this case, there are people who are well-informed, who nevertheless disagree with the transgender ideology. (Sorry, but I don’t see how else to refer to it other than an ideology, because I am referring to the ideas and beliefs of those who see gender reassignment as a legitimate solution to gender identity disorder, a.k.a. gender dysphoria.)

No worries.

The risk equation with hormone blockers is a complicated one. When Transgender Kids Transition, Medical Risks are Both Known and Unknown | Growing Up Trans | FRONTLINE | PBS | Official Site

Fundamentally, people regardless of age should have a right to be who they are without requiring a medical intervention to do so.
I’d somewhat agree but I personally take anti anxiety medication; it’s a medical intervention that allows me to be who I am. And some folks need medical intervention to be who they really are.

That drives me craaaaaaaaaazy! Love it or loathe it, the Spanish language has the sexist convention of the generic “he.” My Spanish friend, a journalist, informed me that the Royal Academy of Spanish has declared it acceptable to use a generic “she” when the majority of a group are women, (e.g. “ellas” for they, when most of the “they” are female). But it’s not put to use in popular speech.

When we add the “x,” it looks like an ethnocentric attempt at applying Anglo linguistic conventions on another culture’s language.

Boom. 😎

You are an adult, (I’m guessing), and can make a fully informed medical decision about them. You can also go off them at any time and return to your pre-medication self.

Hormone blockers have permanent effects and are a decision made in part by minors who don’t have fully developed brains or decision-making skills.

My son can continue to play with and love Barbies without me having to alter his physiology. I love him unconditionally for who he is.

Exacto!

I just did a quick google of the term and found this apologia from HuffPo. I bruised my eye sockets from rolling my eyes just a little too forcefully at this part:
Latinx is also, as pointed out by writer Gabe Gonzalez, a way to reclaim identity, a form of rebellion against “the language and legacy of European traditions that were imposed on the Americas.”
¡Me muero de las pendejadas!

I went on medication when I was 15 after one of my friends attempted suicide. I have gone off them since but often they are what allow me to be myself.

And while society may bemoan the “medicated youth” some children have ADHD or serious depression or anxiety and do require medical intervention. Same with blockers. They are prescribed by medical professionals.

Hormone blockers can be stopped and puberty will begin again.

Many of those medications have been around a long time with well-documented risks and benefits. As my link indicated, hormone blockers are relatively experimental and require off-label use of drugs.
