I thought low-middling earners in the U.S didn’t pay particularly high rates of tax.
The working class is more than just the “low-middling earners” It is all people who work and pay taxes Many of whom are encroaching on the higher tax brackets.

Why would you have a problem with people enjoying the money they earned earlier in their lives?
I dont have a problem with people who work hard and receive just rewards. it is the parasites who live of the earnings of others, the landlords and moneylenders, they are all tarred with the same brush. there are no exceptions, ,

Kind of like children, the sick and the needy. They take far above what they give.

That’s a bit extreme.

Used to be that the majority of landlords were people who had lived in and bought the property/properties they rent out. Now it’s those who want a shortcut to financial security through buying up houses, pushing up prices, and getting the tenants to pay the inflated mortgages. Some of these people don’t even hold regular jobs ; this is their living. Over-investment in the property market is also an economic problem, the money sunk into it isn’t helping produce anything. That’s why governments use capital gains taxes to redirect investment elsewhere.

Hi, Cynic,

Truly, you guys have an nearly fairy-tale view of how property works - and how you must work to make property profitable. The idea of going out to buy houses so as to jack up rents totally ignores how a market works. If rents are too high, property will stay vacant.

It is the same with any other item - people vote with their money and their feet. If things are not right, they walk away. The individual who buys all of these properties to inflate the rents either had a lot of cash sitting around looking for a place to put it, or had to go out to the bank for a loan. Since this was a business - our landlord want-to-be had to present a business plan on how he was going to make money (and repay the bank with interst). Chances are, all of these houses needed work - and this means hiring repair men and skilled tradesmen to do what is necessary to get the house so it can be lived in. All of this certainly helps the economy in general - and your pocketbook in particular if you are one of those skilled workers.

Seriously, this bit about blaming the landlords for the finacial troubles of the world is getting pretty thread bare. Landlord provide a service - just like the butcher, baker and candlestick maker. This double talk about it is ‘OK’ to enjoy the fruits of one’s labors - but, as soon as you do, you are now motivated by greed - is simply economic nonsense.

So, what is your answer to all of this mischief from so-called ‘greedy landlords’, Cynic?

God bless

Surprisingly high rents are still being paid for modest accommodation. At least landlords involved in construction help bring new properties to market. I’m talking about average/middle class people buying up existing residential properties, reducing supply and pushing up both house and rent prices.

You’re overestimating the work involved. At the end of 20 years the landlord owns several houses worth a great deal of money and can retire. He had to arrange for plumbers and electricians to turn up and make sure the tenants pay… so what. Other people work a 50 hour week for median salaries all their lives. Houses require the services of tradesman regardless of who owns them.
So, what is your answer to all of this mischief from so-called ‘greedy landlords’, Cynic?
Probably a capital gains tax (I don’t know if you have that), I don’t know really…

Hi, Cynic,

I realize that other variables like property taxes and the location of a particular area do not play into the ‘blind greed’ scenerio … but, it is folly to simply dismiss them as inconsequential in determining a rental fee. Ultimately people live where they live for their own personal reasons: proximity to work and shorter commuting times, proximity to quality schools for their children, proximity to things they want to be near has not only a real value - but, a value they are willing to pay for.

Well, Patg, do I hear a note of envy? Seriously, all I have heard is how ‘easy’ this is… if that were the case, well, I really think more people would be doing it and making all of this money and then more people would be joining them and so on. If is is so ‘easy’ and money to be collected so vast - why aren’t more people drawn to this siren’s song you sing? Some how I just do not see someone talking about the heroic worker who slaves for 50 hours a week but refuses to engage in this easy money.

In my view, the presentation of ‘blind greed’ is totally distorted as the only variable to consider. Ultimately, Adam Smith’s “Invisible hand of the market” has a way of correcting many (but, not all) of the market’s condition. Or, is that ‘blind greed’ by another name?

God bless

Actually the children, sick and needy all have something go give. For example the love a child has for his or her family or the joy they give to those around them.

With all of this anti land lord hatred it is no wonder so few people are willing to rent out property and why we have such a homeless problem.

High rents are being paid because the laws are against land lords and force them to take undue risks. If the laws were more fair, then more people would be willing to offer more property for rent.

50 hours of median work? being successfull as a land lord takes more than just hours of labor, it takes other skills including knowing how to find and market property.
Probably a capital gains tax (I don’t know if you have that), I don’t know really…
So you want to punish people who try to save up for their retirement or a rainy day?

Punishing people who save up for their retirement.!!

save up hard earned money . when a person is blinded by greed they honestly believe they are doing good,
You only have to investigate the history of landlords and moneylenders, those activities were created by the very people who have always had total power.

fact --The majority of politicians and lawyers are landlords and moneylenders,

fact–The majority of people from the top end of town are landlords and moneylenders

fact–The greatest amount of money spent in the world was never worked for . yet we are told it was earned.take the equity on world wide property over the last ten years . could be as high as one hundred trillion dollars, this un/worked for money is used as security by landlords and moneylenders to buy more property,— to make more cash— without having to shed any sweat or tears, so how did this come about, answer the landlords and moneylenders are in total control,

fact-- This world of ours that was once a paradise , is now at deaths door because of greedy parasites, they created a smoke stack society, so they could become richer.

When you look at a world without landlords and moneylenders, investigate the possibilities, and think of the trillions of dollars made from property, there has to be another way that would turn this world around, but how can this happen when you realise the power they have over all of us, even the Catholic Church has become the four largest/richest land owner in the World , so if it was a crime to collect rent or interest , what would we do, turn over all property to St Vincent De Paul so they can feed the starving children around the world,’ Why is it so hard for a landlord moneylender to see the real picture, they keep making the exuse that they are no different than the Butcher the Baker or Candlestick Maker, answer they are blinded by greed,

fact - anyone with a nickel in the bank or who has a savings bond is a money lender.

the ones blinded by greed are those who are taking from others against their will. If you have such an aversion to to lenders and land lords, don’t borrow money and don’t rent.

Hi, AthairSiochain,

I’ve got to hand it to you - no one can create ‘facts’ as fast as you can! 😃

The ultimate ‘fact’ is that no one could ever get money without it being traced to some bannker or landlord. Since this is the root of all money and that root is truly a ‘poisoned tree’ - there is no one who can have ‘untainted fruit’.

We are fortunate to have a real-life model for all to see how such a system works …

Ladies and Gentelmen, I give you North Korea!

And, while apparent starvation is just a minor inconvenience for economic purity - there is obviously no room for bankers and landlords. Truly a marvel in its own right!

On another note, my wife and I will be going on vacation starting this morning - please continue on… 😃

God bless

That statement reminds me of a news item on the net, about a upper-class landlord in India who accidentally drove over a six year old boy who was asleep in the gutter, this boy was dieing from hunger, the landlord was driving a Rolls , when questioned about the accident, all he could say was " The good thing about this accident is the young boy is no longer suffering,

For you to compare a world without parasites to be like North Korea is a typical landlord exuse, if you investigated the system in North Korea you would find, the people from the top end of town own everything and the people who actually do the real work are slaves, I see a world that Christ would approve of , because everyone would love their neighbour, and the system we have now ensures the rich landlords and moneylenders get the biggest share and the poorest people share the crumbs, have a nice vacation,

Landlords and moneylenders do have a pleasurable lifestyle financed by hard working tenants,

anyone with a nickel in the bank or who has a savings bond is a money lender.!!!

WRONG money held in a bank stays there, because the bank can lend ten times the value of the deposits, and if you get 3% interest during a time of 5% inflation you are not making anything, but the bank is ,

the ones blinded by greed are those who are taking from others against their will. If you have such an aversion to to lenders and land lords, don’t borrow money and don’t rent!!!

I dont borrow money and I dont rent, but I have no control over the money I earn it is deposited in the bank by my employer, so I have to pay fees to access the money, all the loose ends are tied up… because landlords and money lenders have total power… I have done a investigation to prove I am correct, nobody has yet proved I am wrong, " the majority of politicians and lawyers are landlords or moneylenders," you would have to say that shows the system was created by them,

The very idea that we must have different monetary systems around the world , was conjured up by greed., most currencies around the world move up and down all the time, try adding the daily percentage rise and fall of any currency, for 365days you could find a 300% change , a loss in value means someone else has had a gain in value or vice versa,

LEGALISED THEFT THAT IS WHAT IT IS, have a nice day

You don’t have to pay bank fees. if you have direct deposit.

Much of the inflation is caused by deficit spending to fund welfare programs.

Any one can become a land lord or money lender by earning money and buying land or investing.

If you don’t want to work and pull your own weight, you can’t expect to gain power over those who do work.

THAT STATEMENT SHOULD BE PUT ON TEESHIRTS AND HANDED TO GREEDY LANDLORDS.

You steer clear of reality. you have not explained why all the property that can be measured in trillions goes to the already rich…

Much of the inflation is caused by deficit spending to fund welfare programs.

Again a statement full of support for greed., explain the equity situation, and how prices are forced up by greedy landlords and money lenders, this is the root cause of inflation. property profits rise faster than inflation, the worker who pays rent is supporting two families his and the landlords, judging by your words you would support zero welfare, have a nice day.

my guess is this was not the first and won’t be last time she totally mis-states Catholic social justice teaching. If she is this far wrong here, I don’t place much faith on the rest of what she says.
In my opinion, the Catholic Church has a de facto position of redistribution of the wealth by any means possible. Social Justice is just a phrase that speaks of that very thing. While not every diocese or local church will emphasize this, it is still quite a rampant teaching. It would not surprise me to see many Catholics give a similar report.

Unfortunately you are pretty much right. The USCCB willingly supports socialist agendas even when contrary to the catechism and historical, conservative papal proclamations. They do NOT represent the Church, just poorly misled liberals.

And this is a stain upon the Catholic Church that prevents many Protestants from taking her seriously. I’m not trying to bash her, just saying that when someone takes a high road, it’s hard to take them seriously when they are hypocritical. The Catholic Church does so much for so many people, that you can’t fault her for doing good. But at the same time, if the Government does all the giving, what use is there of the Church any longer?
