No, it is just illegal, but not immoral.
That distinction does not exist in the case of a just law, and the law against illegally entering the country is a just one.
The children did not break the law. Their parents did.
It is never immoral to show mercy.
It is not merciful to reward breaking the law.
That is exactly what mercy is. The criminal pardoned by Jesus from the cross had broken a very serious law. Was Jesus acting immorally when he rewarded him?
The ones it “rewards” are not the same ones who committed the illegal act. They are victims.
DACA rewards those who enter the country illegally by allowing their children to remain. If their children are victims, they are victims of their own parents and only total codependence can justify letting their parents get away with it.
The children are not culpable for what their parents did. Why do you insist on punishing them?

DACA kids didn’t break a law, they were brought here with no say in the matter. Why should they be deported? What’s their crime? Why does the child get punished for the sin of the parent?

Is it wrong to require others to show mercy while you yourself do nothing effective to solve the problem at hand.
The only thing I am requiring of others is the same thing I am doing myself - to do nothing and let them alone. What harm is there to you to just ignore someone who has been living a decent life in your community for many years?

Deportation is not punishment. It is an administrative procedure. It is restitution.

Sending people to a country they don’t know, away from the culture they were raised in, isn’t a punishment?

Why do you call it punishment? They are being repatriated to their parents Homeland and the country of their birth.

Why aren’t they familiar with it? Their parents taught them nothing about their home country? Their parents were seriously negligent if they didn’t teach them the language of their native land.

You’re just being silly. Immigrant parents in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, the standard current immigrants have been held to, refused to teach their kids their native tongues so they would assimilate. Now the standard has suddenly changed? Why?

If I got dropped in Poland, Lithuania or Czechoslovakia for no good reason (my heritage), I’d consider it punishment.

There’s more to it than their language, friend. The Dreamers have known no other country in any meaningful way besides the US. This is the life they know.

And do you honestly think if you were shipped away from your job, your school, and your friends and sent to that Soviet-bloc country it wouldn’t be devastating? After having learned how things work in this country, having all your affairs done in this country, learning how to be an adult in this country? Just dumped on a street from the deportation office, alone in Latvia or wherever.

Are we really pretending they know nothing of their native land? We can be sympathetic all we want, doesn’t change the law and the basic rule of law that makes our country great.
Do you think whoever wants to immigrate to the US should be allowed, with no limits?

It is a harm, because it makes it more difficult for people who have been standing in line waiting for their legal approval to come to the US.

i thought you implied that we should show mercy. Showing mercy is not doing nothing. You propose showing mercy to those coming here illegally, but doing nothing about those requesting to come here legally. I know a case of a US husband with a foreign wife and his wife has not been able to join him legally in the US for quite some time now. She is still waiting for approval. Why reward those who break the laws but punish those who follow the law?

I will certainly be calling. Thank you for posting. These are trying times and my heart sinks when I see so many negative comments towards the underprivileged. I see many Catholic Americans speaking from a point of lack; to think something is being taken away from them. WHERE IS YOUR FAITH?

We are currently in Lent Season; “Lent gives us time to look at the way we relate to people, to see how we think about life and how we live our lives as followers of Jesus.” I may not have riches but my heart is full because I know God loves me and sent his only begotten son to die for my sins. Showing compassion to those that need it most is one of the kindest things a person can do. Isn’t that what Jesus would do? Have we forgotten the Gospel of Matthew 5:3-12

THE EIGHT BEATITUDES OF JESUS
"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek,
for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure of heart,
for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called children of God.

Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven,
for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you."

How do you feel about sending a parent to prison for a crime? The child is then separated from the parent - - is that punishing the child? I think that’s the sad fact behind the expression “the sins of the father (are visited upon the child)”. Whether it’s prison, or being deported, yes, children suffer for the wrongs their parents have done.

How do you feel about some kind of amnesty for those people who wait for YEARS and do things the right way - i.e get the biometrics done, get their medical checks, report in to ICE, etc.

You would put the illegals ahead of the people who are trying to do it the right way? I really can’t understand or agree with this.
No, I would allow much broader, quicker, and less costly immigration than is currently available AND allow a path for citizenship for dreamers.

Yes, children suffer for their parents but these children don’t have to, we have the opportunity to choose to be mericiful. What reason do you have to punish them for their parents actions? Where does the greater harm happen? Pulling people from the life, livelihood, and families they have formed or in (supposed) line jumping?

This is NOT about politics, that lives over in the news forums.
You have got to be kidding. You just issued a mandate to call Congress and now you’re syaing this isn’t political?

Get real.
This is a Moral issue, our Bishops have asked us to defend our brothers and sisters. I will heed the request of these Shepherds.
Is your argument based entirely on an appeal to authority?

This isn’t about justice for immigrants. It’s about getting the Democratic Party votes so they don’t have to bother with the Rust Belt and farmers or campaigning and can just give themselves and their friends golden parachute lives on Easy Street. They were supposed to have turned Texas and Arizona bright blue long ago, but their plan has been side-tracked due to the culture of death.

It’s also about certain corporations getting people in so they can under-cut worker safety and wages.

But hey, who are we to stand in the way of the sniveling virtue-signaling?

What crime have these now adult children broken?

As others have explained, deportation isn’t a punishment. It’s an administrative action taken against a person who has no right to be here.

Do you agree with not converting them into anchor babies, that can then sponsor their parents who brought them here illegally?

That I would not support.

The parents who entered illegally should be deported with no chance at reentry.
