** In a campaign against Obama, Gingrich will be torn to pieces. Why?**
Code:
**He has flip-lopped **on a whole range of issues, undermining his integrity and stability.
** He was basically rejected as their leader in the House** by fellow Republicans who tired of his arrogance and pseudo-intellectualism. He doesn’t impress those who really know history, despite his pretensions.
Code:
As I recall (and I forget the details) **he was fined** - what was it, $300,000 - for some unethical behavior re something he wrote?
** He made millions as a lobbyist** once he left Congress, including nearly $2 working on behalf of Freddie Mac. He claims (typical Newt) that he was somehow employed as their historian, but this will rebutted by the facts, exposing Newt again as a persistent and money-hungry fibber.
Code:
** He has that $500,000 credit line at Tiffany's**, which will help undercut his popularity, certainly among those on the bottom of the ladder.
** He is arrogant, a know-it-all, something of a motor-mouth**, who can come up with some applause-producing one-liners, but probably will blow it by losing his cool during one or more of the debates.

** Most important, but perhaps less publicized, his personal life has been a mess, **including his two divorces, his affairs, and his mistreatment of earlier spouses. The woman vote will be heavily impacted by this. His choice of a woman 20 years his junior as his third wife will even alienate some as well.

** The strongest GOP candidate probably is Mitt**, unless someone else accepts a draft -maybe Christie, possibly Daniels. Trump would be blown away as a blowhard, Huckabee is a decent man but probably would alienate many because of his strong religiosity.
Code:
**Other stinging indictments of Gingrich will emerge.**

**Time will tell**. Obama could beat any of them - though the reverse could happen, also, depending upon what happens nationally and internationally during the next 12 months.
** God bless America.**
Just as the Democrats basically chose Senator John McCain to run against Senator Obama … because McCain was the weakest, by far, of the Republican candidates … and the weakest campaigner and the weakest debater … so also, now, the Democrats and the RINO’s are lining up their support for Romney.

Which Democrats have supported Romney?
:rotfl:

Warren Buffet, apparently.

wolffiles.blogspot.com/2011/11/ann-coulter-joins-bill-maher-and-warren.html

Bill Maher.

[And Ann Coulter ??? :rotfl: ]

But seriously, folks … **have you noticed that there’s one Republican who constantly escapes any of this media anal exam, escapes all of this vetting, and that’s Mitt Romney.
**
The one who is said to be the nominee, I mean all the smart money out there says, “You know, all this stuff, this primary stuff, it’s just all academic, Romney’s the nominee, everybody knows it. All of this is just a waste of time, everybody knows when it’s all over Romney is gonna be the nominee, right?” Well, **Romney is the one guy the media is not vetting. **

So there’s a pattern out there.

Whenever a new Republican, the anti-Romney, the non-Romney, the un-Romney reaches the top or near the top in the polling data, then here come all of the relentless assaults on character, their past, their integrity, from the Main Stream Media. It was Sarah Palin, then it was Michele Bachmann. It has been Herman Cain. They’ve gone after all of them. Now it’s Newt Gingrich, who, a month ago, was considered a laughingstock, somebody just taking up space at the debates, the wise old man who was never gonna go anywhere because he was too undisciplined. Yeah, very smart guy, but never gonna go anywhere. He’s just up there. He’s serving a role. He’s making sure that these Republicans stay focused on Obama. Newt’s up there, he’s hitting the media, he’s hitting Obama while these other Republicans go through the motions here, but it’s gonna be Romney, everybody knows it’s gonna be Romney.

**Meanwhile, Romney is never the subject of any media hit. **

I’m not saying anything. I’m just pointing it out.

Fill in the blank yourself if you want to draw a conclusion. I could draw a conclusion there 'cause everybody’s wondering, where’s all this stuff coming from? Where did all the stuff from Herman Cain come from? Where did all the stuff from Sarah Palin come from? You know, who benefits from all this? It’s always an interesting question to ask. Who benefits from Cain being taken out, or the effort to take Cain out, who benefits from the effort now to take Newt out? Who benefited from the effort to wipe out Sarah Palin? Now, who is it that’s not being vetted?

**Mitt Romney **is a fine person. Just as John McCain was a fine person. Mitt Romney is as nice a guy as you would ever run into. He’s made mistakes, but who hasn’t?

The problem that he’s facing is an electorate that wants to know if he has learned from them.

And his defense of Romneycare is troubling, especially when Jon Gruber, who helped Romney put it together, and also went to the White House and helped Obama put together Obamacare, is out there saying Mitt’s not telling you the truth, it’s the same bill.

The only difference in Romneycare and Obamacare is that Romneycare used taxpayer dollars to pay for a state program. Obamacare obviously uses taxpayer dollars. In other words, Romneycare could go elsewhere for the money for it. Obamacare couldn’t, but it didn’t matter. The federal program, the money’s obviously going to be paid for by federal funds or taxpayer dollars. He continues to defend Romneycare, Mitt does. That troubles a lot of people.

When Romneycare was THE health care program, there was … from the RINOs a lot of Republican support at the outset. Romneycare plan was being touted throughout the Republican Party.

So Romney is still in some trouble. That’s why the polling data is what it is because people are troubled by his steadfast glue that keeps him attached to Romneycare, people don’t like it because they do think it’s much the same thing as Obamacare. If he abandoned it totally would they call him a flip-flopper. But he’s not being vetted on that.

New Hampshire was considered slam dunk for Romney to the point that nobody needs to even go there. No other candidate needs to spend a dime there because it’s not winnable. Romney owns it.

But one of the problems with Romney is that the whole thing is called “Romneycare.” How do you abandon something with your name on it? It’s something to consider here.

Your charity and inaccuracy in some areas are just breathtaking. I take it you won’t be supporting Newt.🙂

The election will be about voting for a known quantity - Obama - or trying something new. Americans are basically conservative in the sense that they don’t like abrubt change in leadership - unless the leadership has been perceived to have failed.
It looks to me like Caine, Romney, Gingrich, Bachmann and Santorum would have problems in a general election. My guess is that Huntsman would win easily over Obama. And Ron Paul would also be rather strong.

Since you seem to use bold words a lot, how’s this:

The deadlines to register as a candidate are long gone in at least all of the early voting states: Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Florida, and Nevada.

So, what candidate would want to possibly register for contests after a whole month of contests they weren’t a part of?

Did you not see the thread titled “GOP Candidate field is Set”… well, the GOP field is now set in stone, there are 8 candidates running. And, if anyone wanted to jump in they would legally be unable to register in at least all of those 5 states, and probably many others.

Mike Huckabee already said he wasn’t going to run. He did that all the way back in May, 14, 2011. That was 6 months ago.

The Republican field is set in stone. There will be no more candidates entering. Pick one of the 8. And, this only confirms what I said in an earlier post about TMC. Haters can hate. Go on and hate Newt Gingrich, at least I have a candidate. You’re still waiting for Christie, Daniels, Trump, or Huckabee to get in??? EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM HAS SAID THEY WON’T. Christ Christie said he couldn’t think of a way short of suicide to convince people he’s not running. No one listened, so he acted like he was going to run just so he could raise money for his re-election campaign… why not take advantage of people who refuse to listen to you?

But isn’t there always a possibility of drafting a candidate at the convention, if there were a deadlock for example?

It is within the rules. In fact it is probably the only hope The Democrat Party has of holding on to the Presidency. Drafting someone in place of Obama at their convention.

Ya, Obama can’t go into this election as the anonymous mystery savior candidate. He actually has a 3 year public record that he can’t hide from or have his lawyers cover up.

So, 8 people run for President. And then, when the whole thing is said and done. After millions of dollars are spent and millions of votes are casts, and hundreds of delegates support various people.

If the delegates were stuck in choosing someone… they’d vote in a dark horse candidate who didn’t even run? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_horse

Hmm… well, I guess it’s not impossible. 🤷

Still, I think the Republican Party wouldn’t want that to happen, bc we might just lose with a stunt like that. Didn’t that happen in the 1968 Democratic Convention?

Agreed

“Christ Christie”? Is that a Freudian slip? Whenever I hear that name, I think of the SNL skit where all the reporters are begging him to run. I had no idea the SNL cast member playing him had, uh, similar appearance - which in our instant media society precludes him from running from office - indeed, other than Bachman and Santorum, the only “fit” candidate seems to be, that’s right, Romney, who’s already a shoo-in. Romney can start planning now. He’s the Republican nominee. I say that in present tense because it’s so obviously going to happen that I don’t see the need to call it a prediction.

That was definitely an unfortunate typo.

Furthermore, was there anything inevitable about Rudy Giuliani in 2008? Remember how he and Hillary were supposed to be the inevitable nominees for months?

So, I hold out hope that we will nominate Gingrich instead of Romney. Even if Romney does get nominated… he’s been the frontrunner for the whole of the campaign. He has the most money, endorsements, and organization. Well… for some reason 75% of Republicans have not gotten behind our nominee. 75%.

There’s gotta be something seriously wrong with him, mustn’t there?

It would be nice to be able to say Obama is done, but I don’t think that’s the case. He doesn’t always follow the rules when he’s up against opposition. He’s had a serious lack of transparency in many of his actions as president. And think of all the illegal voting that took place in the 08 election. He and his supporters will have more tricks up their sleeves in 2012, we can be sure of that.

I’m old enough (and have read enough history) to know that when delegates get to political conventions surprises can happen. To begin with, often delegates are committed for the first ballot only. If there is a deadlock - which is quite possible at the GOP convention next year - and balloting goes on long enough a ‘dark horse’ can emerge. If you have been watching the PBS series on candidates who lost, you are aware that Wendell Willkie was just such a candidate in 1940.
My concern at the moment is that the GOP not nominate Gingrich. What a disgrace for our nation. Such an un qualified person to lead our beloved nation.I guess I've made that point quite clearly and boldly already. Sorry to feel the need to repeat it but I hope it leads some readers to search out the facts and not be hoodwinked by his clever talk.

As I mentioned before, the only things seriously wrong with Romney are his flip flops, Romney care, and his Mormon religion. Otherwise he seems rather boring - in the sense of no dwi’s, sexual harrassment claims, divorces, scandals, etc. What he will have going for him is the sense that he conveys, that he is able to fix things, to turn the economy around, like he was able to do with one of his businesses or the Olympics. I think Obama would have his hands full with Romney. Is he better than Gingrich? Hard to say. He, along with Gingrich, is the only candidate who has performed well in every debate. He is probably a moderate conservative. I think he’d be a huge improvement over Obama.
It looks to me like Caine, Romney, Gingrich, Bachmann and Santorum would have problems in a general election. My guess is that Huntsman would win easily over Obama. And Ron Paul would also be rather strong.
You had me going there until the point where you say Ron Paul would be strong. All the candidates would have problems in the general election, but some more than others. If Huntsman can’t get any traction now, how would he be a strong candidate against Obama? Cain, Bachmann and Perry are done, imo. Ron Paul never was a serious candidate, and its going to be a race between Gingrich and Romney. Hopefully the strongest candidate will win. I think that is Romney, but who knows.

I think its hard to say that Gingrich is “unqualified”. He was Speaker of the House for years, was a congressman for years, is well versed in policy, and is an elder statesman for the GOP. You might not like his personal history, or his character, but if you say he’s unqualified, then just about everyone else would be unqualified.

If Huntsman can’t get any traction now, how would he be a strong candidate against Obama?
Here’s why Huntsman would win against Obama. As of now, he is seen as too moderate and so the conservative Republicans are not particularly attracted to him and so his poll numbers are low. However, after he is nominated as the Republican candidate, the conservative Republicans would have no place to go and in their zeal to defeat Obama would vote for Huntsman. But, and here’s why Huntsman would win against Obama, Huntsman, being a moderate man, would attract the overwhelming majority of Independent voters and besides would attract many Democrats who are disillusioned with Obama.

The GOP nominee process has been cyclical, i.e., every week there’s a new Flavor of The Week. Last week, it was Herman Cain. This week, it’s Newt Gingrich. I hesitate to use the word “fickle” or “wishy-washy,” as the front-runner changes as often as a Lady Gaga costume…it would be nice if y’all would pick ONE nominee and stick with him or her. When it’s Romney, I’ll be right here saying, **“See, I told you so.” ** :tsktsk:
