What about the good thief on the cross? He changed. If God can forgive, who are we to hold back. I think, thru God’s grace, that Newt has learned his lesson and has changed. We all do as we get older. With Newt, as with Cain, let he who is without sin cast the first stone. As we now know, much of what has been said about Newt and his first wife was not true.
I never meant to deny Mr Gingrich’s sincerity in converting nor deny that people can change. But they usually don’t. That’s the way to bet.
I’m sure most of us (depressingly) find ourselves confessing to the same sins over and over. I would hate for my habitual sins to become public.
Sadly, in Gingrich’s case it has become public that he has serious problems with fidelity which reveals his character. Becoming a Catholic doesn’t cure that & voters have a right to consider it.

Btw, would you give a pass to a Democrat who had mended his ways or just assume adultery was part of his liberal DNA?

I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. I hope I would do the same for a Democrat should I be inclined to vote for one. That inclination left me many years ago. I think becoming a Catholic might bring to mind that adultery is a sin. Don’t think he will get the nomination because there are too many people who think like you do, but I do think his superior intellect and his experiences might very well make him the best president of the lot.

And now we await another fall. 🍿
Ya, I can hear David Axelrod sharpening his knives now. Gingrich has lots of “marital indiscretions” to put into print, which seems to be Axelrod’s vice of choice for destroying otherwise qualified political opponents.

That is the nice thing about being a Democrat, you don’t have to apologize for anything.

If a man cannot stay faithful to his wife, then how can anyone ever trust him?

Surely there is a candidate who hasn’t cheated on their wife?
Has our political class sunk that low?
Uh, why should Catholics care about that? He is in favor of the same old nonsense, the Fed, ujust wars, big gov’t (he had his chance in the '90-'s with the “Contract with America”??) ?

Yeah! It makes no difference what he DOES as long as he says he’s Catholic!

Are the marital discretions three marriages?

I think this would be a lot more damaging for Newt if he had these marital discretions while calling himself a Catholic. But because he is fairly new convert, he converted 2 years ago, I think it is less damaging.

It makes no difference to Jesus what you DID, as long as you repent and change your life.

And under the Contract with America the budget was balanced and the Clinton administration fluorished. The welfare system and tort reform was called for. Good ideas, I think.

Say what you want about Gingrich but he’s always the smartest man in the room. He doesn’t need a teleprompter to communicate because he understands just about everything falling under the shadow of Federal government.

Personally I think Gingrich has done a great job campaigning thus far. I see no fault with him or Paul.

The fact that the others are constantly confronted with obstacles brought on by their own demise, really isn’t no surprize. No different with Obama.

At the end of the day, its where one stood, now stands, and thus we could safely assume where they will stand in the future, as President.

Fact is as Catholic’s we already know where Obama stands. And thats in “total” contrast to Catholic teaching. And unacceptable to most practicing Christians.

Its which one candidate comes closest to Catholic teaching, which can be acceptable in this period of social transition by Catholics. And not one’s personal idea of what a Catholic lifestyle should be. but the Vaticans, thus Pope Benedict XVI.

With his attack on Pro-Life and Religious Freedom Obama has become unacceptable to Catholics. This much is obvious.

No, but repeating a misrepresentation of the facts could be. If people would read the daughter’s account of the whole situation, than you can see where this statement by a poster here does not agree with the facts:

1 The kids were told in the spring of 1980 their parents were getting divorced.
2 Mrs Gingrich packed up the kids and drove back to Carrollton
3 Later in the summer of 1980 Mrs. Gingrich went to the hospital at Emory and had a benign tumor removed.

From the daughters account the hospital visit came after the divorce proceeding had already begun. Her mother did not have cancer. He did not “serve” divorce papers on his cancer ridden wife in the hospital as some smear campaigns have maintained. Newt is not my first choice for the Presidency, but smear campaigns involving possible Calumny and at least detraction have no place on Catholic forums.
Great job. I just hope the average independent voter will see the refutation of the story.

The “divorce papers on her deathbed” story has been repeated so many times, its accepted as gospel.

Well, Ted Kennedy was a Catholic…somehow the Dems didn’t care about his past indiscretions. 🤷

Nancy Pelosi is Catholic. Wouldn’t vote for her in a heartbeat.

Giuliani is Catholic. None of us Gringrich supporting CAFers backed him at the time.

Am I right Gilliam, Monte, Marybobo, Scipio, Scott, Abyssinia, Gary, Darryl, et al.??👍

I don’t quite understand the question, but as I have already said, I have not decided who I support this time around, only those I do not.

Not if the MSM can help it, they won’t.

We don’t vote for someone just because he/she is Catholic.

Yup. 👍

Don’t you just love it when people tell you why you are voting for someone? It reminds me of when my kids were teenagers and thought they had me figured out. 😃
I am voting for Ron Paul because he like Pistacchio ice cream. 😃
