I didn’t catch it…dense…but you’re right, that is funny.Now, that’s funny…I don’t care who ya are…
I agree. My 12yo is in Girl Scouts, and we haven’t seen anything contrary to Church teaching, but I’ve heard the same rumors. If there is something more to worry about, I would like to know before my girl continues through Junior High and High School.I for one am glad they are examining the GSA. There are so many rumors about this PP connection, I look forward to what they say.
Please provide a source. I am not trying to be obtuse, but I have never seen this often repeated rumor backed up with any evidence. The Girl Scouts give to planned parenthood. Really planned murder.
I think it is good this is getting attention, but I think the jury is still out on any formal link. I think some of the Girl Scout national leadership needs to break any informal ties they have to PP and it is good the Bishops’ Committee is looking into it.catholicnews.com/data/stories/cns/1201669.htm
In response GSUSA has strongly stated it “does not have a relationship or partnership with Planned Parenthood and does not plan to create one”
This thread came up before. You will find plenty of blog links attacking the girl scouts, but that is the nature of the internet. You can also go to the GSA website and find that they say there is no relationship with PP. There are internet sites for both sides. Please provide a source. I am not trying to be obtuse, but I have never seen this often repeated rumor backed up with any evidence.
girlscouts.org/program/gs_central/mpmf/faqs.aspQ: Does GSUSA have a relationship with Planned Parenthood?
**A: **No, Girl Scouts of the USA does not have a relationship or partnership with Planned Parenthood.
Except they are sponsored by 100s of Parishes. The question is should the Church have any affiliation with this organization-- a valid concern for the magestriumI think its rather obvious that it would not live up to the standards of the Bishops. Conducting an inquiry into whether or not a non-Catholic organization is Catholic enough seems to be a farcical endeavor to me.
Of course, it’s up to the Bishops, but I would think that they would want to keep the GS in the parishes. Like I said, I have total control over what the girls in my troop do and what we spend money on. I would think a Parish supporting a troop could set up some rules and guidance–especially if the leaders, families, and the girls are all Catholic. I would suspect that removing them from the Parishes would mean the Church would have less influence. Sure, some girls would quit Scouts, but others would just join troops at other Churches or schools–out of the reach of Catholic guidance.Except they are sponsored by 100s of Parishes. Yes. Our Catholic girls should be under the wing of the Church as Scouts. Catholic women guiding that youth are the best antidote against secular influence in the organization. My daughter was a Girl Scout at St. Stan’s in Brooklyn, and it was a fine, fine experience for her - though a fattening one for me after so many cookies.Except they are sponsored by 100s of Parishes. That’s not why I quit as a leader or why my daughter is no longer a GS. Its what is happening at the national level with the CEO and her affiliations with pro-abortion speakers and organizations. I could no longer justify being a part of an organization that continues to form professional relationships with the abortion industry. I could no longer turn a blind eye to what is happening by saying its not happening on the local level. I no longer wanted to be a part of their food chain if they were going to continue the associations with so many troubling pro-choice organizations and professionals. My take on it is it’s a secular organization and should stay that way. I don’t see anything anti-Catholic and the GSUSA denies involvement with Planned Parenthood (and I believe in innocent until proven guilty). My guess is, a lot of the association with Planned Parenthood stems from individual troops associating with them (since we have pretty much freedom to plan our meetings and such). My understanding is that basically, some troops independently used Planned Parenthood’s sex education program and that started this whole mess.
Both sides spoken for - the ones against them like yourself, and those who are for them, like me and apparently Mellow cat and possibly EstesBob.That’s not why I quit as a leader or why my daughter is no longer a GS. When the CEO of GSUSA goes on national television and openly admits to God and the whole world that they have partnered with PP to bring sex education to young girls, I don’t know what further proof you would want. Would you like me to post the link…again? This thread came up before. You will find plenty of blog links attacking the girl scouts, but that is the nature of the internet. If it doesn’t affect what the Local Councils, especially the Catholic ones, are doing, let her shoot her mouth off. My daughter benefited from the organization even if, for all I know, the president of the Girls Scouts was a sleep-around.When the CEO of GSUSA goes on national television and openly admits to God and the whole world that they have partnered with PP to bring sex education to young girls, I don’t know what further proof you would want. Well, I certainly wouldn’t want my daughter out of reach of Catholic guidance and you fail to address the fact that the girls belong to a national organization and it is that level that is the voice and image of the entire organization. I’d say their principles are pretty clear being as they invited a pro-abortion speaker to their natioanl convention the end of last year. I have that link as well if you care to read for yourself.Of course, it’s up to the Bishops, but I would think that they would want to keep the GS in the parishes. FYI, none of Councils are Catholic. Certain troops might be, but none of the Councils. If it doesn’t affect what the Local Councils, especially the Catholic ones,
