Well, there was the original network news:

The Cavalcade of News, with John Cameron Swayze.

(only 15 minutes, with no commercials–covered just as much if not more news than the current 30 minute programs now do.)

I love the Honeymooners, I Love Lucy, Odd Couple, and anyone remember I Married Joan? And Little House on the Prairie.
All of the above, plus “Mary Tyler Moore”, “Leave It to Beaver”, and “The Dick Van Dyke Show” (yes, I do remember “I Married Joan”!)

Even though it isn’t considered very politically correct, I’d love to see “Beulah” again, too.

Wasn’t it amazing how good these shows were without bad language, immodest dress, and drug culture slag.
I agree. I think TV started to go downhill in the 1970s, when producers/writers suddenly saw the need for every episode of a sitcom to deal with some earthshaking issue. One week it was drugs, the next week it was abortion, then shoplifting, then it was sex. The shows became melodramatic and preachy. It was no longer enough just to entertain us or make us laugh. Now, it’s all about shock value – who can use the most foul language, who can show the most body parts that are best left covered, and so on.

I’ll take “I Love Lucy” any day!

I think when Laugh-In came along, things started to change. There were ALOT of sexual inuendos, and the bikini girls Judy Carne & Goldie Hawn dancing to Sock It To Me, Sock It To Me!
V-E-R-R-Y Interesting!

I forgot just how many really good shows used to be on. I still can’t pick my favorite…maybe leave it to beaver …still thinking.

An earlier post had pictures of sky king I really liked that show. It was on Sat. along with Roy Rogers and Wild Bill Hickock starring Guy Madison and his trusty sidekick Jingles (Andy Devine).

ok, I’m younger so I’m sorry but I don’t know many of the older ones, but I love the Andy Griffith Show and Full House, those are some good quality shows:)

Steve Allen
Sid Caesar & Imogene Coca
Jack Benny
Hit Parade
Bob Hope
Perry Como
Red Skelton
Red Buttons
All of the above either were live or sure felt like they were live. That was part of their greatness.

How about the “Mickey Mouse Club”. Am I the only one that wanted to marry Annette?

Do you remember Andy Devine in the “Andy’s Gang” kid’s show?

“I’ve got a gang
You’ve got a gang
Everybody’s gotta have a gang
But there’s only one real gang for me
Good old Andy’s Gang!”

(I’m not sure of the exact words)

And remember “Million Dollar Movie”? – the theme song was “The Syncopated Clock”, and the featured movie would be shown two or three times a day, all week long (if you really loved a movie, you could see it a good 15 - 20 times in one week!)

I lost count of how many times I saw “Godzilla” and “Yankee Doodle Dandy”!

Can we have some of the old radio shows too?

I’ve been collection old time radio shows for a while - and somehow have amassed recordings of probably something like 30,000 of them, more than I will ever have a chance to listen to!

Heck, I don’t care what’s on; I practically live on TVLand and Nick@Nite.(and whoever’s got Law and Order on at the time…) 👍

One of my all-time favs was The Halls of Ivy about a college professor, Ronald Coleman. Then there was My Little Margie with Gale Storm. Am I going back too far? 😃 Also, Ed Sullivan! Did anyone else catch Elvis on Sullivan’s show, when they blocked him out below the waist?

Peace,
Linda

Did someone say “I Married Joan?” I remember that show as well as the theme song. (Do you notice that there aren’t theme shows to sitcoms anymore. Why? So that you can be hooked into the show before you get a chance to turn the t.v.)

I Married Joan
The Ghost and Mrs Muir
The Lorette Young Show
The Big Valley ( I loved the brothers and was envious of the sister)
High Chapperal
Ed Sullivan
Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom
Johnny Carson (because I thought I was grown if I could stay up and watch it)
Omnibus
The Man From U.N.C.L.E (I LOVED Illya Kuriakin (sp?)
Wide World of Sports
Boxing on ABC
Carol Burnett Show
Peyton Place (my mother thought I was paying attention when she was watching it, but I was absorbing all of it 🙂
My Three Sons (the oldest son was adorable)
Bewitched
Gunsmoke ( I loved Marshall Dillon and wished I could have been Miss Kitty 😛 )
Mod Squad
Cheers
Dr. Kildare (cutie)
Ben Casey(cutie)
Marcus Welby M.D (font of wisdom)
Julia
Twilight Zone
Soupy Sales
Captain Kangaroo
Star Trek ( I loved Captain Kirk and wanted to be beamed up by him :o )
Spanky and Our Gang
Columbo
Secret Agent Man (slammin’ theme song)
The Saint (was that Amos Burke?)
Lassie (I wanted a collie)
Lost in Space
Taxi

And all of the shows that all of you mentioned previously. I was raised on Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore. They were hilarious.
Okay, I’ll stop now

I’m sure some others will pop into my head, but when I look at TV Land and the Good Life Channels, I get melancholy because those shows represented a time when we knew what was right and what was wrong; Now they’re deemed quaint and out-of-touch with today’s mores and norms. And have you noticed how the family was portrayed back then? It was a hierarchical family with the father as the proper head of the family. You’d have to search far and wide to see that on t.v. today.

We’ve gone from “Leave it to Beaver” to “The Osbornes.”
