You know, I cannot stand Glenn Beck and I doubt he and I could even agree on what to eat, but I think he showed great restraint and a mature attitude in recognizing that much of what happened likely had to due with the assailant being drunk rather than necessarily being a liberal. Maybe I’m just so used to Beck the radio shock-jock and he’s really a pleasant, reasonable person in his day-to-day life, or maybe his own battle with alcoholism has made him quite understanding in this regard. In any case, applause is due the man and I hope his family’s vacation isn’t marred by this knucklehead.

EDIT: Unfortunately I hadn’t read the rest of this thread, and it seems this incident is going to serve as yet another tu quoque in the arsenal of American political clap-trap.

What I find so profoundly ironic is that multiple conservatives, supposedly the faction of personal reponsibility, have already ascribed this tossing of wine and unkind words at Beck and his wife to the mysterious “Left” rather than to the individuals who did. I guess that means everyone who isn’t a republican is responsible for ruibning Glenn’s evening?

Of course, the claim has also been made repeatedly that “conservatives wouldn’t do that, there more civilized than that.” Which experience shows isn’t true. One can find many catalogues of conservative political violence just by doing a google search and records will verify enough instances to put the theory that conservatives are above political violence (if one can call pouring wine and shouting mean words ‘violence,’ it is in a mild sense ofthe word) safely to rest. If anyone doesn’t believe me I will post examples, but that’s a bit off topic.

Mr. Beck has a security detail who is trained to know when it’s appropriat¬e to pull their charges out of a hostile situation. The Beck family stayed where they were and watched the whole movie. Thus, Glenn is either lying about the severity of the situation or he is admitting that his security detail is less than profession¬al.

Also, if Glenn or his wife REALLY felt that they were in danger, why didn’t they remove their children from the area? If I were in a dangerous situation and my children were with me, we would be out of there. Nothing is worth risking the life of my children. Either the situation wasn’t what Glenn claimed it to be or he and his wife are willing to place their children’s lives at risk just to watch an old movie.

I am talking about the trend to violence and intrusive methods used to support leftist causes.
I think I have already mentioned the amount of security that right wing speaker need as a matter of course when speaking on college campuses. I haven’t really gone to the pie in the face routines, but that is all a part of it.
Madison is a reference to the methods used by unions—just something at the top of the news recently that I hoped most regulars in a news forum might be able to connect to.
I could also get into the trend of leftist homosexual activists and their targeting of individuals and businesses right on their doorsteps for supporting cause such as traditional marriage.

Leftist here want to make it out as if it is just a few outliers, a few deranged individuals on the fringes. If that is all this is, then not really news.

Sure, there are good and bad people on the left and right. No doubt about it.
The actions of any one goon are just that.

But I am talking about this kind of action being a part of a trend that is becoming increasingly nasty. For sure Glen Beck cannot go do a talk on many campuses today with security or without getting accosted by the leftist on campus. He shares the same boat as Ann Coulters, the Daniel Pipes and virtually any Isralie official in that regard.

The left has increasinly brought the threats and the anger into people’s place of businesses and homes too, as the California same sex debaucle demonstrates.

Are family outings in public parks just more of the same trend.

I think so.

If the leftist argiment is always about the person, about SIXHIRB, sexist, racist intolerant haters and what not, then the fruits of this attitude is to escalate the personal attacks against conservatives, who are by liberal definition,motivated by hate and greed.

Indeed. There was recently a right-wing militia group caught by the police that was I believe active in my own state (Ohio). There are of course Marxist and anarchist groups that occasionally wreak havoc. By and large. I think extremists have more in common with each other than either do with relatively moderate people on the left or the right.

Some may, if they choose to, see some rowdy New Yorkers spilling wine on Glenn Beck’s wife as an indicator of a trend leading to the next Great Purge, others may see the infalmmatory gun rhetoric in the Tea Party as an indicator of the next great fascist revolution. Personally, I think the right and left wings tend to rise and fall together, and the citizenry should vigilant against them both. When the fasists and communists were warring in the streets of Berlin, it was the centrists who made the stand to keep order in society. To no avail in the end of course.
