Here’s what I was looking for:

Joe Kennedy would indeed blush. But it does show that Capitalism works, that unbridled Capitalism benefits the richests the most, and Algore demonstrates both principles.

The article above referred to another article in The Economist which said the following about carbon offsets. (I suspected this for a while, but unlike The Economist I couldn’t find the right words to express it):

When you donate money to build a new windfarm, you don’t take any of the old, polluting power offline; you increase the supply of power, reducing the price until others are encouraged to buy more carbon-emitting power. On the margin, it may make some difference, since demand for electricity is not perfectly elastic, but nowhere near the one-for-one equivalence that carbon offsets would seem to suggest. Especially since the worst offenders, big coal-fired plants, are not the ones that renewables will substitute for; solar and wind power are not good replacements for baseload power. Instead, renewables are likely to take relatively clean (and expensive) natural gas plants offline, since those are the ones that provide “extra” power to the system. Similarly, by giving villagers in Goa energy-saving CFL bulbs, you do not lessen the amount of electricity consumed; rather, you make it possible for other people to purchase the extra energy freed up by more efficient lightbulbs. This may be excellent poverty policy, but it does not lessen the carbon footprint of your international flight.

Feted at Sundance. Fellated at the Oscars. There may even be a Nobel Prize in his future. After having his election and subsequent re-election stolen from him, it appears that Al Gore is finally getting the respect he deserves – and not just from the lesbian community. The whole world is united in love and admiration for the man who would awaken us to an inconvenient truth and save us from our own polluting selves.

Would someone be so kind as to provide a link to Lessen’s graph of solar cycles vs. global temperature?

Scientists are certain that human activities are changing the composition of the atmosphere, and that increasing the concentration of greenhouse gases will change the planet’s climate. But they are not sure by how much it will change, at what rate it will change, or what the exact effects will be. Global temperatures are expected to continue to rise as human activities continue to add carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and other greenhouse (or heat-trapping) gases to the atmosphere. epa.gov/climatechange/basicinfo.html

And of course the government is right about so many things!😃

The concentration of CO2 in our atmosphere today, has not been exceeded in the last 420,000 years, and likely not in the last 20 million years. According to the IPCC Special Report on Emission Scenarios (SRES), by the end of the 21st century, we could expect to see carbon dioxide concentrations of anywhere from 490 to 1260 ppm (75-350% above the pre-industrial concentration).

Global mean sea level has been rising at an average rate of 1 to 2 mm/year over the past 100 years, which is significantly larger than the rate averaged over the last several thousand years. Projected increase from 1990-2100 is anywhere from 0.09-0.88 meters, depending on which greenhouse gas scenario is used and many physical uncertainties in contributions to sea-level rise from a variety of frozen and unfrozen water sources.

Which is almost exactly four times the number of people killed in the Nazi Holocaust.

And does anybody else notice how closely the beginning of Global Warming was to the beginning of legalized abortion?😉

It’s not news that human activities are bad for the environment. Ever since that first cave man invented fire we’ve been adding CO2 and greenhouse gases…it’s pretty much unavoidable. IF CO2 is the cause of the environmental issues, then there’s not much we can do about it besides try to reduce our emissions…but as far as I’m aware, the link between CO2 and ‘global warming’ is a tenuous one (especially because global warming has yet to have been proven).

In the mean time, perhaps these guys have the right idea about how to fix the problem…
Phasing out the human race by voluntarily ceasing to breed will allow Earth’s biosphere to return to good health. Crowded conditions and resource shortages will improve as we become less dense.

We should try to be good stewards of the environment, but really, aren’t there more worthwhile things to obsess about besides “An Inconvenient Truth”?

More violence is being done to pre-born children still in their mothers’ wombs than I think anyone can say is being done to the environment. And that *human *violence extends into every aspect of our culture of death. IMO the focus on the environment is a political ploy to distract us from the real issues plaguing our society.

Precisely. Abortion is the silent genocide of our times.

One day in the future, perhaps not for awhile, people will look back on our society, on our permissiveness to the murder of millions of unborn innocents, through the same eyes with which we now see the Holocaust. They will ask what was wrong with our society that we could allow for such slaughter. They will wonder what WE did to stop it.

What will we possibly be able to say to them? That we were too busy lowering carbon emissions?

Amen!👍

Okay, I’ll accept it at face value, though I thought it was 6 million who died in the Holocaust, which means it’s 8 times the number, but whatever…
What’s your point?
And does anybody else notice how closely the beginning of Global Warming was to the beginning of legalized abortion?
No. And?..

First of all, it was six million Jews and six million “others” – including gypsies, Polish Catholics, and so on.

Secondly, if killing 12 million is consdiered the greatest crime committed by mankind, how will our genocide of some 48 million be judged?

Third, look at the title of the thread. How many people have been killed by Global Warming?
No. And?..
It may not be CO2 that’s causing the problem, after all.😉

To answer the OP: global warming by a landslide. It affects more people than abortion.

I’ll make you a deal – I’ll put up a cross for every person who’s been killed by Global Warming, and you put up a cross for every person who’s been killed by abortion.😉

are you referring to women who have died from complications?
