You are putting the cart before the horse, my friend.
Poor catechesis only leads to terrorism and nuclear weapons. Physically killing people is worse than killing their souls. I didn’t put the cart before the horse and stop using cliche’s.

What is it that leads to secularism, hedonism, ambivelence, consumerism(materialism), reductionism???

What leads to abortion, terrorism, violence, etc??
I have never tried to work it out but it seems to me that if you were to examine all of the different sins and abominations, that you could find at there very foundation pride.
I would be very interested in comments. Has anyone ever heard of this being attempted?

My point was that a madman with nuclear weapons is a greater threat than nuclear weapons by themselves.

People are either good or bad. Objects are only objects. Missiles are only missiles. They aren’t good or bad. Missiles don’t have beliefs. They don’t have an ideology. They aren’t prideful, angry, lustful, envious etc. But people, in their fallen state…are.

Understand??

This seems so wrong in so many ways!
  1. If poor catechesis leads to terrorism and nuclear weapons then it would seem that poor chatechesis is the problem. Hence the cliche.
  2. Physically killing people is** not** worse than killing their souls!
    A) killing is not necessarily a sin. (Ex. Police protecting public)
    B) To murder is a mortal sin. It kills the soul of the murderer untill (hopefully) the murderer repents. However, if the person murdered were a saint they would go straight to heaven.
    C) The individual who leads another to abandon God has commited the worst of all crimes. I personally think that this is what jesus was refering to with regards to it would be better to be drwned with a millstone than to hurt one of these.
To cause someone to turn from God by filling there head with human secularist and aetheistic garbage or introducing them to pronography is far worse. Some have said that the unforgivable sin of blasphemy against the holy spirit has to do with denying the holy spirit’s (God’s) existance and actions. Saying things like: “It is a “God gene” that causes people to believe in a God.”
    Peace,
    Jim

Not in my opinion.

Selfishness, Me ! Me ! Me ! Greed More ! More ! More ! and after we have everything we want, we still aren’t happy.

I’ve gotta agree with that. They really all need each other to work.

In Christ,

I voted for secularism, which I think encompasses relativism. The world has seen some of your choices from the beginning and others have come and gone. Secularism will go too. It will be replaced, and is being replaced even as we speak, by religious intolerance such as the world has never seen, especially against Catholicism.

You’ve made your point and I’ve come to agree with you. Nuclear weapons are still a big threat, and unless we get rid of them there will be more wars.

Well, good to see that you agree about the sactity of souls, but I will respectfully disagree with you about nuclear weapons *causing *war.

In fact, it has been nuclear weapons that have done more to avoid war since 1945.

That’s why crazies in Iran and N Korea have been lying, cheating, and stealing to get a missle—they’d pose a threat, and they know that the US would have to think twice about military options.

I would hate to think of Saddam Hussien having nuclear capabilities. Oh, Lord have mercy!

Good that you agree about the sactity of souls, but nuclear weapons might have actually avoided more bloodshed than any other reason in the last 60 years.

Nuclear weapons in the hands of crazies are another story though, and for that you have a point…

The utter disregard for human life and the willingness of so-called Catholics to defend that.

We see people on these forums who defend terroism by saying it’s the fault of US foreign policy, and asking “Wouldn’t you want revenge if someone killed your family?” (Who killed the families of the 9/11 bombers?)

I have had Catholics tell me that it is intellectually unethical to say that “pro-choice” is “pro-abortion.” (Pro-choice is the proposition that the choice to kill an unborn child is devoid of moral implications.)

I’m not sure if anyone else has said this, but I would say pride plain and simple. It caused one-third of the angels to fall, it causes man to elevate things to godhood, and is the beginning to all sins.

I voted other…neo-conservatism. The ideology that America is God’s chosen country and of America’s duty to rid the world of what it sees as evil by any means necessary.

If you asked people if the world’s worst problem was ignorance or apathy, most would answer “I don’t know, and I don’t care.”
