Walking_Home:
Ms. Maryagnes,

It does not matter what it was that was being celebrated.
This kind of circus should not be held inside the church.
A church is for the sacrifice of the mass - not clowns.

Sincerely,
Walking_Home
You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I did not note any clowns being sacrificed. The ministry of the Church, the ministries that were being celebrated were these people’s living gift to God. It was their offering … and God takes our offering, and through Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit makes it perfect!

Did you look at all the pictures? If not, please do. As Eucharistic people we should all be this excited about participating in the Church’s mission! Isn’t that what Eucharist is all about? We partake of the Lord’s Body and Blood so that we can become HIS Body in a broken world.

I hope they emptied out the tabernacle before the circus…Then again I dont see a tabernacle, or a crucifix, kneelers…
Or a clown, but maybe he’s out back being sacrificed?

Indeed. Poor Jesus. He would be horrified that these folks were concerned about Evangelization, Formation, Service and Outreach! Where IS their focus anyway??

Come on people … To quote Our Lord Himself … “Whoever is not against you is for you” (Luke 9:50).

I’m pleased that they were not celebrating Mass. Therefore, I have no problem with the costumes, except . . . men should NEVER wear hats in church! :tsktsk:

OK - so there’s nothing wrong with what’s going on in this picture, right?

You misread Walking_Home’s sentence.
A church is for the sacrifice of the mass - clowns.

But I imagine you knew that already.

And like s/he said, this kind of clown procession has no place inside the Church. They can celebrate their “ministry” or whatever they’re doing in the basement AFTER Mass.

Yes, there is. Men should NEVER wear hats in church, unless they are the Bishop or higher.

:hmmm: Seems to me the Church is for everyone … even clowns. 😉 And, BTW, this parish DID continued there celebration/ministry sign-up in the “basement.” But, if you looked at the pictures, I imagine you knew that already.

Bottom line … this was NOT a CLOWN MASS.

I sense a little bait and switch with this picture. The first post with the pic started calling it a clown mass and now we are down to hats off inside a church building, but I guess that wouldn’t have been sensational enough to start off with.

I am not at all sure what you mean. The original picture was posted by Desert_82 in post #27 (March 3). It was called a “clown mass.” It was not until I investigated the picture (August 2 post #73) that the “clown mass” description was debunked.

If you prefer sensationalism check out the “newspapers” in the grocery store check out line — as Catholic Christians we seek the truth.

Bravo for your efforts. I did not say you were the one switching things. Heck, you did a fine job of researching it.

I have seen this clown mass picture floating around from time to time, along with two or three other bizarre pictures that are used to represent that state of the mass today. There was a poll months ago of what the Mass was like in people’s home parish. The vast majority attended a Mass that did not exhibit any of the abuses that opponents of the Mass use to illustrate the “horrible” state we are in today.

The use of imagery of this sort to exaggerate isolated incidents, especially when they are falsely labeled is bald-faced propaganda.

Amen … and Amen! :clapping:

My favorite breaking of the rules is when the Priest comes down and shakes lots of people’s hands during the sign of peace. It’s like shaking hands with a celebrity! :bounce:  :yup:

What is a Clown Mass and where in the world did the idea originate? Could someone explain; I have never heard of these in my life. It kind of freaked me out when I say those pictures above.

I think the biggest litugical abuse in my parish is holding hands during the Our Father. Once I learned that we should not do this, it has been very hard to find people who understand why we should not.

Also, my priest removes the holy water during Lent. I find this very strange and puzzling, because he is otherwise very orthodox.

Thanks and God bless,
Karen

There is no such thing as a “Clown Mass.” The whole idea of such a Mass has been debunked. 🙂 See my August 4 post.

Ahhh yes, the ever memorable CLOWN “MASS” - 1 Sept 2002, 9:15AM, Christ the King Church, Pleasant Hill CA, Diocese of Oakland!

CUROCK has fully documented the abomination on videotape. A still picture is attached, but does not do justice to the full sacrilege. That’s the pastor,

Fr. Brian Joyce in clown vestments… uhhhh the bald older gentleman in the clown “vestments,” captured at the Gospel which was performed by the troupe and followed by a homily also performed by the troupe.

Not surprisingly, little, if anything, in Fr. Joyce’s archived homilies [Click Here: http://ctkph.org/homilies/”]Index of /homilies
] gives joyful assent to authentic Catholic teaching. There were many offenses against Our Lord and His Magisterium at the CLOWN MASS, but one of the worst was when Fr. Joyce revelled in quoting his nun homilist (Why should Fr. Joyce obey the Church in dogma OR discipline?) from last week, Sr. Carol Zihn, who promoted the United Nations in her “Wisdom from the World” homily at Mass.

Fr. Joyce gleefully quoted Sr. Zihn at his CLOWN MASS (not archived on his webiste at the time of this writing): “All of the species of the world, except for our housepets and houseplants, would be better off tomorrow if mankind became extinct today – and the housepets and houseplants would bounce back and be better off in a few years.” Hmmmm, give me a moment here – Prince of the World, Wisdom of the World, United Nations, United Nations Family Planning and forced abortions and sterilzations, better off without mankind, Sr. Carol Zihn, Fr. Brian Joyce, Bishop John Cummins.

A quick visit to Google provides us with the following:
Too bad you did not Google the parish website–you would have gotten a less “biased” understanding of what you are mistakenly calling a “Clown Mass”.

I suggest you check out: ctkph.org/clown.html
What you will discover is that Christ the King Church in Pleasant Hill, CA has a CLOWN MINISTRY. The clown ministry is an interfaith group formed from several churches. This ministry visits convalescent homes, hospitals and various other churches and participates in occasional parish liturgies. The clown’s gentle message brings smiles, offers of kindness and understanding.

Another “Clown Mass” debunked! :getholy:
