Japan has a much smaller population than the United States.

And yet, they have a vast number of suicides.
And yet and yet - those stats could well be much higher if guns were easier to obtain over there. Who knows?

Coulda, woulda, shoulda.

Their society is a mono-culture.

That factor could be important, as well.

It’s obvious you’ve had no experience with firearms.
With respect Colonel, that’s a pathetic, empty denial. Not only do I have experience with firearms, I’ve had substantially more than most.

You’re free to deny this as well, but I grew up in rural Kentucky where I got a .22 for my 13th birthday from my dad. I was in JROTC and ROTC and got my marksmanship medals during our FTXs. I bought and sold WW2 milsurps when I was in college because I enjoyed guns so much. I’d test-fire each and every one I sold.

Right now, as I’m typing this, I have a gun cabinet at home where the contents are worth more than the car most Americans drive.

I used to love them. I used to be the young, ignorant, self-sure fanboy that the NRA tends to attract.

And now I don’t. 99% of the reasons I used to spout in justification for owning and proliferating firearms as a gun-nut are fantasies. Total bullspit.

Home invader/self defense? The overwhelming majority of the time, if they realize you’re home, they leave. Your gun had nothing to do with it. And if they don’t leave, they have the element of surprise. You’ll more than likely become aware that you’ve been invaded because you wake up to a man pointing a gun at you barking orders or you’ve already been shot and you wake up just enough to realize you’re dying - the .38 you keep in your nightstand stayed cold, unfired in either case. The scenario where you heroicly arm yourself and route your invader is a statistical oddity that doesn’t justify the proliferation of arms. It’s a freak occurrence.

Prevent government tyranny? I keep asking this - where can you shoot an Abrams tank with a 5.56 or a .308 that disables it? Because the government has tanks. You don’t. As such, a rifle is completely obsolete in preventing government over-reach.

Frontier life? For the .000001% of Americans this still applies to, your enemy is a wild animal. Bolt lever pump and wheel guns in the appropriate caliber will serve just fine. Besides, most of the time that “enemy” will scamper like their tail is on fire if you discharge a warning shot.

In sum, I think the issue here is that you simply can’t believe that someone could immerse themselves in pro-NRA, 2nd Amendment, you’ll-pry-my-guns-from-my-cold-dead-hands culture and eventually come out against the things. And as has been the case since Aristotle pointed it out a few millennia ago, your first go-to defense is denial.

A quintessential, tiresome and predictable conservative response…

Thank you for the response. It wasn’t what I expected.

Specifically, I’m very surprised to hear one, such as yourself, with such a powerful stockpile of deadly weapons and deadly weapons experience refer to other gun owners as “gun-nuts.” That’s very interesting.

Have you considered getting rid of you personal arsenal of deadly weapons since they are so useless for home defense and incongruent with your current philosophy opposing other people’s Second Amendment rights?

No, I still enjoy them. But that’s largely all they are to me - enjoyment (and maybe a little nostalgia). And I still think a few of them are objects of beauty like my Springfield m1. And it’s not an arsenal. Just a big gun cabinet.

But in my cabinet, I know they’re not going to hurt anyone. If I sold them, they’re out in the secondary market and can end up anywhere. Plus, at this point in the game I don’t particularly need the cash. So why bother?

They’d be nice to have if society collapsed (SHTF). But safety wouldn’t be the biggest concern for ongoing civilization. Hunger would be.
As such, a man probably needs a deer rifle and or a .22. Maybe a wheel gun to keep on his side.

Also add a “gun free zone” sign. Signifies greater virtue purity.

On a more meta level, the same people who preach anti-white creed of privilege, want to increase the number of non-whites in my country, openly rejoice over the shrinking number of whites, and disarm us. I get the feeling that will not have a happy ending.
Not for anyone. You cannot force demographic change. It can, I suppose, happen naturally, but when forced it leads to complete disaster.

Besides, all of these groups will not have time to celebrate any great demise of the straight, white Christian male because they’ll be too busy turning on and destroying each other. I’m already seeing it happen.

Thank goodness you’re keeping all of those terrible weapons out of the hands of other law abiding Americans by not selling them.

Every weapon sold to a criminal was, at some point, sold by an honest person who thought they were selling to another honest person.

They weren’t. And they couldn’t know it.

Which is why I don’t sell them. It’s why we, as a society, should consider not selling them.

hot burglaries go up after gun bans. when you can’t resist you talk about your valuables more freely when intimidated. the perp’s take is greater and faster. verified by a survey of british prison inmates.

the banning of guns does nothing to deter crime, it arguably increases crime (http://extranosalley.com for data). you can still face this same scenario except now you have no chance of using your weapon, not the slightest. going from freak to none isn’t better.
You’ll more than likely become aware that you’ve been invaded because you wake up to a man pointing a gun at you barking orders or you’ve already been shot and you wake up
i read in one survey most burglaries occur during the day when people are awake.
It’s a freak occurrence.
the CDC acknowledges between 500,000 and 3 mil defensive uses of a gun, not so rare or freak occurrence

fear mongering, when will the government send tanks into the cities.

you don’t acknowledge how some people feel about rights.

you are safe, it is just everyone else who is the danger. seems to me most gun owners believe that. you can find a responsible buyer or if you truly feel you can’t then destroy them to back up your words. you seem to want everybody else to not have guns, start by destroying what you have (post a video). yours is a typical gun celebrity grabber response, they don’t want the common man to defend themselves as they surround themselves with bodyguards carrying guns.
So why bother?
principle
you should destroy them if you truly believe what you say. someone can steal them and then they are on the street killing people.

is that why you bought yours? not everyone who owns one believes in that rambo bullspit. as stated before there are valid reasons to own an ar especially if you are disabled, etc.

Do you really believe that it is that difficult to make a gun?

You know that you can print a gun, right?

I have heard that many police departments will destroy guns for citizens who wish to get rid of them. But you would have to check with your local law enforcement to see if such a service is an option for you.

Destroying your guns would certainly relieve you of the worries you express here and resolve the obvious ethical conflict created by owning so many guns while being, at the same time, so anti-gun and oops and goofs and poofs against the Second Amendment.

At any rate, many blessings and good luck with your gun enjoyment and anti-gun activism.

In all seriousness, if my kids don’t want them and I have the luxury of seeing my demise coming, that might be exactly what I’ll do.
At any rate, many blessings and good luck with your gun enjoyment and other endeavors.
Right back at ya.

That’s not true. The general risk that you may be armed and resist plays a huge factor. They don’t mind doing burglary but the risk for them increases greatly when you are at home. Agree that gun isn’t the only factor but it is one. Maybe they do think they can take you, but then be faced with assault or murder changes.

Flagged.

Violence and insinuating suicide are divisive and unchristian.
