And your reply here Lenis, accusing me of pride, reeks of judgement.

Please enlighen me how stating my beliefs and showing my experiences that are behind that belief are pride.

I stand by what I said and await your apology.

Pride - one of seven capital sins

I think she is referring to your tone of ‘all knowing’ because of **your **experience and then your laughter at someone elses knowledge.

And who is she to accuse anyone of sin?

I find your use of bolding the word your very annonying and accusatory.

I also don’t need you to educate me on what capital sins are.

Also, there was no laughter. One can find something funny with out laughter. It is not funny in a “haha” manner but funny in a “odd” way. Funny in the way that one will take one persons view as fact with dismissing those who have actual first hand experience. But then what do I know, seems you all know better.

If you disagree with me, then find, say so but do not resort to ad hominem attacks.

Guess I should do what I said and ignore this thread.

BYZCATH,

YOU ARE GOING TO BE A PRIEST!

ANOTHER THING THAT CAN BE ANNOYING IS OVER USING ALL-CAPS! (WHAT IS DONE IN PLAIN-TEXT MEDIUMS WHERE PRETTY EMPHASIS LIKE BOLD IS UNSUPPORTED AND FOUND TO EXCESS IN THAT BOOK MARYLIKE CRUSADE).

IF I WANTED TO BE REALLY ANNOYING I COULD USE ALL THE EMPHASIS FEATURES AVAILABLE TO ME HERE.

DO YOU KNOW WHO ALCUIN IS? HE WAS OUR SALVATION FROM ANNOYING ALL-CAP TYPE BUT DEMON TO GRAMMATICIANS.

ah alcuin!
are you familiar with my good deed spell: eleka nahmen namen ah tum ah tum eleka nahmen

I apologize for my choice of the word reek, I was very upset when I read your statement, as I too was very involved in Occult practices many years ago and only by the grace of God and the prayers of many people, I was delivered, so anytime I see the enemy worming his way into the minds and lives of adults, and especially children who have no control over their situations and have parents who have no spiritual discernment and they think everything is harmless, I see Red.
. Harry Potter is anything but harmless. I just can’t understand people knowing these books are about a boy, going to a
Witchcraft school even before you read what he does there.
GOING TO A WITCHCRAFT SCHOOL - HELLO
. Michael OBrien is a Catholic Author - expert in the field of occult and this is what he says about Harry Potter.
  1. Before my conversion to Christianity, I was involved in New Age and false religious movements that actually practiced several of the things casually described in the Harry Potter novels.
  2. I have been a state representative for a national referral service that assisted families in getting their loved ones out of cults, new age groups, and satanic movements.
  3. I have trained college peer leaders to combat Satanism on campus.
  4. I have lead young people out of the very world described in the Harry Potter novels to a commitment to Christ.
  5. I have attended training by law enforcement officials about youth involvement in Satanism and the occult. I have also assisted law enforcement officials investigating occult related crimes.
  6. I have personally confronted and ministered to demonically possessed individuals involved in Satanism and the occult.
In light of this experience, I warn fathers that exposing your children to the enchanting world of Harry Potter is playing with a fire from hell. Will every child reading Harry Potter get burned? Of course not. Will some get burned? Yes, in all likelihood there will be thousands. If you want to know where the billion-dollar Harry Potter craze is going to take these children, just look at the Harry Potter online bookstore web pages advertising additional books for kids interested in related works. Harry Potter is just one of the many entry points into a world where the fascination with wickedness creates an addiction that perverts the innocent mind and obscures what is good.

Why I called your writings prideful because witchcraft is from the devil .It is a sin, we are told that in the bible. Now you stated that you
were involved in the occult and because of your experience

you know that Harry Potter is harmless
. So in otherwords you are saying that what you feel is right even though God says in the Bible witchcraft is wrong, That is Pride.
Do you honestly believe ifJesus was here today in your home town that he would stand in a book store and hand out Harry Potter books to children and adults alike.
No way.As Michael OBrien says books like Harry Potter, is the opening that the devil is looking for to enter the child’s mind with the intention of destroying that child. And you have to ask God to show you the truth, before people read the Harry Potter books because you have said that they are harmless. These are souls you would be turning over to the Devil.

Like what, for example?

I’ve dabbled in the occult and found nothing like what’s in Harry Potter.

My daughter read the first HP book when she was only just 6. She had a very advanced reading age so it was right on her level. (Yes, whoever it is below, she’s homeschooled and was given the book by a friend for her birthday). But let’s not forget that these books are aimed at the 9 years and up market. With the speed the books have come out, the kids that are reading them have grown with it. I wouldn’t have considered the most recent book appropriate for a 6 year old but she’s 13 now so has read it. She’s never had any difficulty distinguishing reality from fantasy.

I have read the whole series and find most detractors have never picked up a book from the series. HP is very clear on the line of good verus evil and what is the right side to chose. There are many lessons in loyalty and laying down your life for your brother, as well as forgiveness, generosity and love. The series has become a bit less innocent than the opening story but Harry is older now so you’d expect that. I’d not let my six year old read the series now but the first and second book, no problems.

The next movie is out next month. I’m looking forward to it! :dancing:

GOING TO A WITCHCRAFT SCHOOL - HELLO
Lenis,
I am only going to deal with this, but first let me say HELLO.

Using all caps is just annoying, if you read the post above you would know that. Using all caps is the equavlant of yelling. Would you yell at me if we were having this conversation face to face? If you did I would not reply nicely and I would walk away from you after that.

But I will try one more time.

If you read HP you would know that only certain people, lets call them another race, are capable of magic. Not everyone can go to the “witchcraft” school. Also, I do not recall it being called a “witchcraft school” but I do recall it being called a school where “witchcraft and wizardry” are taught.

You say you were involved in the occult but you seem to lack the basic knowledge that witchcraft, or wicca, is not satanic. They do not even believe in that sort of thing. The witchcraft of wicca is not the witchcraft of the middle ages.

If you are so against HP for this reason then you must also hate J.R.R. Tolkien and his Lord of the Rings because it speaks of wizards and magic also.

A book is a book. With out proper parental supervision all books can lead children where they should not go.

After all, Lord of the Rings did play a role in my descent into the occult.

The magic of Harry Potter is a skill or natural ability wholly reliant on the individual who possesses the skill, not on some outside spiritual entity to “make something happen.” Perhaps some part of the brain that is less developed in most humans has developed this ability in them. Who knows, because it’s fiction. The use of the terms “magic,” “witchcraft,” “witches,” etc., are attractive and sell books. Rowling could easily have made up a name for the ability and the those with the ability, and there would be no hue and cry about evil influences. There also would probably have been no sales. The terminology piques our interests (look how many posts are here!).

Christian themes run through Harry Potter. Those who have read the books know what I mean. It’s the imperfect Christianity that we all partake of–getting mad or jealous, but realizing that it’s wrong and standing up for what’s right when it counts. Interesting that a group of people (witches/wizard) who don’t have computers, are mesmerized by cars, can’t figure out what a telephone is, and largely don’t care or know anything about the muggle (non-magical) government–i.e., have separated themselves from muggles–still celebrate Christmas and call it that. Wonder why?

What I mean is the message of the bible leads you to God while teaching you about evil.

Plenty of people don’t find that, though - even for Christians, seeing the violence and cruelty (what we would regard as cruelty) in 1 Samuel 15 (say) does not look like the activity of the God Who is said to be Love in 1 John 4. In its own way, the Bible is as problematic as the HP books are said to be. The God of parts of the OT, commands the extermination of various groups - that is not a clearly Christian thing to do

The message of Harry Potter does nothing to lead you to God.

How can the two possibly be compared?

If they have Christian themes, what is to stop them doing so ?
