Does anyone know what Pope John Paul II thought of Medjugorje ?
It seems obvious that he thought that the faithful should abide by the decision of the competent authority, which had judged the alleged apparitions to be not authentic.

Does it now ?

When did Pope John Paul II think that ?

This one seems to be dancing very close to that line.

We have a wealth of truth and beauty in the Faith, why go chasing after something that is not known to be truth?

I believe it’s legitimate; however, it’s impossible to make a verdict until it’s over and done with. We shall see!!

Article is From EWTN

Excerpt: section under Pope John Paul II’s Opinion

In line with Roman Catholic tradition, Pope John Paul II considers the Medjugorje phenomenon an issue for the local hierarchy. It is, however, common knowledge, that the Pope is sympathetic to the Marian site. In a meeting with Bishop Paul Hnilica, the Pope reportedly said: “If I were not the Pope, I would probably have visited Medjugorje by now.” During a meeting with the Superior General of the Franciscan Order, the Holy Father asked: "All around Medjugorje bombs have been falling, and yet Medjugorje itself was never damaged. Is this not perhaps a miracle of God?"

Bp Hnilica was a long time friend of JPII.

I would be cautious about reporting what some other person “considers”, unless you are a mind reader. I don’t care if the reporter has 20 years covering the Vatican, they still can’t read minds. I also would avoid saying what is “common knowledge”, or what some person is “sympathetic” to. None of this can be verified. The same goes for private conversations. We don’t know the context, or what an alleged statement was responding to.

This is especially true when the person has been dead for some years, but it also holds true for living persons including Pope Francis.

In this case,

Monsignor Slawomir was a friend of JPII, and is still alive.

Monsignor Slawomir Oder of Poland, references John Paul’s words regarding Medjugorje in his book, Why He is a Saint . From ch3 in the “The Mystic”. Note the name of the chapter.

I’m just giving information. What anyone does with it is up to them.

I received the sacraments and entered the church in Medjugorje in 1987.

Medjugorie is a fraud and that is why the OFFICIAL Church decision is that there is no evidence of any supernatural happenings there.
Unless the CDF overturn that decision, which I do not believe they will, then the decision already made remains valid and in force.

I never knew I stumbled upon a hot issue like this -
The book I mentioned - speaks of the man’s miraculous cure -
And he describes the place as alive - with people of hope and faith -
I know that’s not a bad thing -

But also there 10 visionaries…abouts…
And they quote Mary - as saying various things -
Like I say, haven’t read up on it yet…
A lady did give me colorful strange rosary beads…who went there…
Thought I’d test the waters, for any eye witnesses who actually went there -

Another mystery, it seems 🤔

This is a contentious issue. Many believe in the apparitions. Many believe that it’s a fraud. I’ll wait until the Vatican issues a final, authoritative ruling. Having said that, it’s hard to argue with the millions of conversions. People go to confession. Pray the Rosary. Lives are changed.

Some troubling things from this apparition. The fact that the vision allows some of the people present there to step on her veil, which they say is dragging on the ground, and to touch her garments and her body seems extremely off to me. Also, the fact that one of the seers said that he noticed during the first day of the apparition, a “quiver” of the hands of the vision. Why in the world would that be? The Mother of God and Her hands quiver? Bizzare! You heard none of that from the seers of approved Apparitions such as Lourdes or Fatima.

They also said that the BVM’s clothing was covered with dirt and filth after the people touched her. That’s a huge red flag right there.

Ive been there once, would like to go back, when opportunity strikes again. Medjugorgie has produced dozens of priests and numerous miracles, even from non catholic e.g. muslims ,protestants ,who visited the place.there are living people who have been granted miracles by god ,thru our lady of medjugorgie’s intercession.whoever calls the place diabolical, they need to look at the mirror,as tneyre the ones who are.

There were and are many troubling things with Medjugorje.
If forced to give an opinion I’d concur that perhaps the first few apparitions were real. But no more than those.
But it is a moot point to me now. No interest in going back.

I need you to watch the testimonies of mrs colleen willard and randall sullivan on youtube.the latter was a former famous atheist, who hosted miracles detective on oprah’s channel “own”. Both of them are americans and by gods grace are still living.mrs willards story surfaced in the early 90’s and i thought it was a hoax.it was only about two years ago that i discovered that her story was authentic and i was floored. even her MDs at mayo clinic were in disbelief,as she became cancer free .they even advised her not to go,as she may die on the plane…i also encountered a retired educator ,who has a colleague ,who went there crippled with arthritis ,but returned here in the usa, completely healed.during their annual reunion, they couldnt believed what they witnessed ,as she was walking normally and was pain free.before she went there , one can hear grating bones, when she moved her extremities and can barely moved them.when she returned home, her range of motion was restored.there are just
