Omg I hate when people make books criticizing other’s religions. Christians do it more than anyone, though. A taste of your own medicine.
Pardon my ignorance, who is Jack Chick? What does he want? Is he or was he a Catholic?
Just Curious?![]()
Jack Chick is a KJV-Only Fundamentalist Pre Trib moron. He claims he want to save the souls of the damned, and no, he was never a Catholic.Pardon my ignorance, who is Jack Chick? What does he want? Is he or was he a Catholic?

Jack Chick makes those little four-panel comic tracts that first appeared in the '50’s and probably reached max popularity in the '70’s, which is why they all have a ‘70’s look. Some are sweet presentations of the Gospel, while others are conspiracy theories he got from books no one believes anymore, and from people who befriended him when he was a sheltered, small-town young man trying to let God use his love of comics to reach people for Jesus. Well, he was and still is gullible toward anyone who seems paranoid and wary at best of normal people. I have some experience with this mentality, and it has nothing to do with actual hate. it has to do with growing up in a culture that is dying and lonely. You have to be immersed in it awhile to get the idea of it. It’s scary.:whacky:Pardon my ignorance, who is Jack Chick? What does he want? Is he or was he a Catholic?

Chick is so ridiculous that he is a joke… even among protestants… anyone who takes it seriously really isn’t too bright…chick.com/reading/tracts/0071/0071_01.asp
I was just curious if anyone has ever read that book, and their exat opinions and thoughts about it.
Except that it can be addictive, as I said above. Psychologists often point out that we are influenced much more than we know by what we are repeatedly exposed to. Most Chick readers start out just looking at them for laughs. After a while, they start wondering if part of it is true. Part of it is – everyone needs Jesus, and everyone needs to turn away from a sinful way of life, or be punished after death eternally. But people see the little footnotes and don’t know half or more of them refer to other Chick materials. They think, well this guy’s done some homework…I hope he’s wrong…I wonder… It’s very easy to get sucked in a little at a time. The reaction that would help most would be a rebuttal in kind: widely distributed comics refuting all his mistakes and all the lies in his tracts. If I were a cartoonist I could do it, but I’m not, and I have too much else to do.Chick is so ridiculous that he is a joke… even among protestants… anyone who takes it seriously really isn’t too bright…
You should tell that to the local congregations that put one in my mailbox every month.Chick is so ridiculous that he is a joke… even among protestants… anyone who takes it seriously really isn’t too bright…
There are many former Catholics out there speaking out against Catholicism. The Pastor at a Church my co-Worker attends is such a person. He said the theology taught at the Perish he attended focused on the authority of the clergy to a greater extent than God’s authority. You should tell that to the local congregations that put one in my mailbox every month.
It is not the anti-Catholic variety, more the “You should get saved so as to not go to hell like ‘Bob’” variety.
In and of themselves they represnet a pretty classic/traditional fundamentalist approach: Accept Jesus as your personal Lord & Savior, attend a church that preaches the Bible, and spread the word. Many would find the theology if not the tone to be pretty much par for the course. In light of that, I can’t help but wonder how many would think that JTC lit is otherwise to be trusted, given how solid they judge the material written without specific reference to the “Romanists”? While hardly convincing to us, is this the best education non-Catholics are getting about us?
That leaves me scratching my head and befuddled. I know there are variations in styles and tones in the many diocese and parishes in the US, but few and far between are the ones I have visited that ever mentioned the “A” word. There are many former Catholics out there speaking out against Catholicism.
