Has the #Metoo movement made men more unsure how to relate with women?

The whispering seemed a bit much/creepy.
It appears perhaps they are all a bit “handsy”…

Interesting observation about the Two and a Half Men show.

Not to mention all the regurgitated theme movies they keep pumping out like Dirty Grandpa etc…
Could I add it is a product out of Hollywood. The man, Sheen, advertises a promiscuous lifestyle. Then off camera, what does he do? He lives just like that. It’s product in advertising. And guess what? He now has aids. And that’s not cool.

Sexual harassment is the fallout for the branded and near brainwashing for people to enjoy looking at living this way (promiscuously.)

I enjoy actors and actresses. The movies and themes (I mean good ones.) But Hollywood needs some penances to clear and clean up their act. And that goes in their advertising and themes/settings as well.

I don’t believe sexual harassment is due to promotion of certain mentalities or lifestyles in movies/has a causal link but “Hollywood” is sure not assisting the matter by giving such mixed messages.

females should be treated with respect & equality

not sure what the problem is… other than sexual predators who take advantage

women are our sisters, our wives, our cousins, our mothers, etc. etc

is this rocket science?

i am not sure normal males have a “superior” advantage over our sisters in christ

@brian_custer

I think the issue some men are having is not with the obvious but more to do with social situations that may have more ambiguity.
Eg:another poster mentioned regarding opening doors for women.
Another example is the Katy Pery “give us a kiss clip” (open to different interpretations).

In your view,if the judge in place was a male rather than Katy Pery would you consider this sexual harassment or harmless?

here is the clip you are talking about

is it immoral?

is it boring, silly & stupid; yes

Maybe men should just stop worrying about what the most they can get away with in society is. Don’t be any more “playful” than you would be to a brother or sister, unless the person is your spouse.

I think it is if the guy was uncomfortable with it. It’s harmless if the boy wanted it, but she should not have done it anyway. There’s a double standard where women can get away with such behavior because it looks playful rather than creepy.

It’s more than that. This problem existed amongst conservative societies too, not just in liberal places like Hollywood.

Promiscuity didn’t help, obviously but it’s not the root cause. There are other reasons that can be explained, like society’s problem with self gratification, its views towards women (and men too, unfortunately), greed etc. It’s not a ‘modern’ problem, so to speak.

Dating is still going to be iffy, but I think that in platonic social/professional situations “hands off” is a great rule.

Sexual harassment has been around for as long as humans have. It’s not some special byproduct of the sexual revolution or whatever.

I think we need to take a good look at the messages we give young men. Secular society still has a strong strain that sex with women is how you prove your masculinity, and a “real man” has to prove himself by overcoming the objections of women. It also sends the message that if a man does this or that, he can expect a woman to have sex with him.

It’s hard to get men to respect women when they’re simultaneously getting the message that if they do, they’re not real men. It also turns things into a false battle, where either the man has to be in control or the woman is.

Maybe a little more playful. I’d be a little disturbed if my boyfriend carried on acting just like I was his sister right up until the wedding night.

I suppose I mean there’s no reason for anybody to be unsure. Nobody needs to risk anything. If you’re attracted to somebody, you should at least become close friends with them to the point that you consider them a potential future spouse and know them well enough that anything “playful” wouldn’t be a risk at all.

You know, that does beg to reason and question why the defense of the unborn has been really difficult. Even when you look at moments in history, at least in the modern trek of it, that during so-called stronger Conservative representation, why Roe vs. Wade, and the whole pandemic of laws granting abortion, haven’t been taken down
These are two separate issues tbh, I would advise you to not change the flow of the thread because the other thread was a nightmare.

But yeah, abortion flourished because society, both conservatives and liberals, are morally lazy. Less religious as well. Not many people will agree with me and that’s fine, but when you take God out of the picture, lots of things crumble. Things like the value of a human life and in this case, the value of one’s body, is questioned.

Btw I’m a woman and I don’t think what Kary Pery did was harrasment but it was too me all about her ego and attention seeking etc
It had an element of harrassment in that it put the young man in a situation in which there would be tremendous pressure to assent, whether he wanted to or not. He was hoping, at that point, she and the other two judges would give him a yes to move forward in the contest. Was he really going to turn her down and risk offending her before he even had a chance to perform? It may have been more prudent for her to offer the kiss after his performance, that way he wouldn’t have to worry about whether a “No, thank you” from him could blow his chances. She also tricked him by offering her cheek and then turning her face to him at the last second. He had no chance to “consent” to that.

I wonder how her ego would have handled it if he rejected the offer?

Personally I think it would be harrasment in the case of if he refused the kiss and then she said no to the audition due to feeling offended (as opposed to talent factors) as this is an abuse of power.
