Mick,
Neither do I desire that these become discouraged. This is a tool of Satan. I hope that the Holy Spirit will work in hearts to bring us all to greater understandings of God. Those of us who earnestly seek, will indeed find.
I must say, however, that it’s much more than Catholic truth vs Protestant truth. Christ is the Truth, and that is what I am concerned with. So, there is no valid alternatives to the truth of Christ. Neither is there a valid alternative to the religion established and built by Christ. I desire to follow Christ, and therefore I am Catholic because I am Christian, and desire to be with what Christ established. If Christ established something else, I would be a member of that establishment because is is where He wants me. Nothing else stacks up in any way one looks at it. Protestantism is easily verifiable to be a poor alternative, as it has some truth, but substantial false doctrine. If we love others, we share that with them. The telltale sign would be if we just laughed at them, knowing that we somehow were superior. However, that kind of mindset is not Christian. We learn truth, because we love ourselves. So, we share the truth, because we love others.
