Just wondering if it is common to “feel” the presence of the devil.

A priest once told our church he had felt the presence of the devil and he ran to get
holy water.

He never said he SAW the devil.

I wonder sometimes if anyone actually sees or feels the devil?
In these trying times, I wonder if people are hearing or feeling him/it more?

(i have not by the way) or not that I have been aware of.

Better to dwell on the ever presence of God in our lives. Belief that God is there for us is all we need.

What does this have to do with liturgy and sacraments? Did you post on the wrong board by accident?

Yes, many times I have been pulled out of sound asleep at around 3AM to feel or see a demonic presence. The last time, the thing was actually pulling my arm away from my body and upward. I was laying on my right side. I tried to speak the word of Jesus but I could not get His name out of my mouth, prevented from doing this. I could only think to say Jesus, please help me. The thing left.

see a demonic presence- do you remember what it looked like?

no I never have seen or felt one myself.

I’ve never seen anything, nor do I want to. We have all felt the temptation of demons and of the devil himself.

Felt? Yes.
Seen? Yes.
Heard? Maybe…???
Been Touched By? Once. (oh! Twice… actually, now that I think about it)

It happens. It exists… but don’t worry. I don’t believe everyone experiences these things and I think those who aren’t gifted in that way won’t ever experience such things.

I use the term ‘gifted’ VERY loosely. It’s hardly a gift.

You have the Lord on your side so there’s nothing to be scared about.

I experienced something somewhat like this once, but I now think it may have been explained medically (sleep paralysis).

Trust me, if you ever truly experience a demonic encounter, this is something that you will never forget and you will know exactly what it is. I have been through this and other things, such as religious objects being moved and turned upside down when there was no one living in the house except me. Yes, my house has been extensively blessed.

I am currently part of a team that includes a priest that is an exorcist for my dioceses and we investigates cases of possible oppression or possession and infestation. What I experience has nothing to do with “sleep paralysis”. It is a long story.

I’m a skeptic. My faith in “God with us” is too strong to believe in what I will call nonsense. Anyone who does have such experiences should seek mental, physical and spiritual help.

I have no doubt that I wouldn’t forget it if objects were levitating!

On the other hand, I haven’t forgotten what happened to me (it was 15 years ago), and it may or may not have been demonic also. There’s no way to know after the fact if my experience was sleep paralysis, it just seems to be a probable cause.

If you ever truly experience a demonic experience, you will find it hard to be a skeptic of the reality of these forces that Christ spoke about so clearly in the Bible. Hopefully, you will never have an experience or see what the demonic can do to a person first hand! However, it does not matter if you are a skeptic, their reality does not depend on skepticism.

Every single time I walk into a McDonalds. Nothing that tasty can ever be sinless.

Agreed. I often see some people try to poke holes in a personal experience someone has shared, and it irks me to no end. No one is omniscient, and no one is a mind-reader. Either accept the perception at face value and continue the discussion in good faith or ignore it and go elsewhere.

:tiphat:

Well-played, ma’am, well-played.

I cannot say I have ever sensed the devil, but my husband (an agnostic) has an interesting story. He drove with some friends to Rainbow Road (google “Rainbow Road Chicago”) and he said he will never go back. He said that he sensed an overwhelming presence(s) of depression, sadness, just deep dark emotions. Experiences like this is one of the reasons he is at least agnostic rather than atheist - firsthand experience with brushing the supernatural.

Saw him said good night to him, whoa did i just say that to the devil, pull blankies over head.
the mushrooms didn’t help.

I have seen the dark, rapidly moving shapes that are associated with the demonic. I have been awakened from a sound sleep by my bed being shaken - no one else home. Both of these occurred at a time when my faith was deepening. A couple of articles:

Yes, I have had many encounters. The one I spoke of above in this thread was a couple of days after I went on a case of oppression of a teenage girl. The doctors could not help her after four years, so her mother turned to the Church. As far as we know now, she is doing well, her mother has not contacted us again. This spiritual realm of the demonic is very real, but so many try to deny what Christ spoke about very plainly.

I don’t plan on it but if it happens I hope I have enough sense to seek help. God is bigger than all this nonsense of demons. Its very imature theology to believe this. The evil that exists in this world is caused by humans…US…God gave us the free will to reject him.

However I should say that I have felt God’s presence in my life many times. If you can’t feel God in your life, your faith isn’t what it should be. Also, if you do feel God’s loving presence, you won’t be feeling any demons around.
