Yes, many times I have been pulled out of sound asleep at around 3AM to feel or see a demonic presence. The last time, the thing was actually pulling my arm away from my body and upward. I was laying on my right side. I tried to speak the word of Jesus but I could not get His name out of my mouth, prevented from doing this. I could only think to say Jesus, please help me. The thing left.
Yes, I’ve had something like this, and I know others on this site have as well, as mention of it has cropped up on other sites.
From time to time I’ll see a vaporous entity, usually hovering near the ceiling. I’m sure a secular psychiatrist would say I was “dreaming” (despite the fact I’ve woken up), imagining things, or in post nightmare mode or whatever. But I don’t think so.
When they grip you, it’s like a having 3 ton truck pushing down on you. They’re pretty strong, but I think their grip is then forcibly removed by an angel or the Holy Spirit.
I’ve had this for a long time, starting not long after I became a Christian. It was probably more prevalent in the early days than now. I suppose I’ve gotten to the stage where I simply accept the spiritual world is as real as the ordinary secular world, except that I can’t see it.
Occasionally I’ll get a sense of the devil giving a threat. One of his favourite pictures seems to be that of the panther. For example, if there’s a picture or poster of a panther in a shop window, somehow the glittering green eyes seem to take on a life of their own. One might say it’s my imagination, but I think the devil is also using the picture to issue a statement - “You’re in my sights”.
However I’ve also had one nasty experiences from the “good guys” as well. Probably a year or so after I became a Christian, I was driving down to the gym we had under the church. I was getting pretty pally with God in my mind, and when I had one rather condescending thought towards Him, this sense of divine anger settled down on me. I literally felt like I was going to disintegrate, or become “unmade” if you’ll excuse the term. That’s how I felt, and it was most unpleasant.
I had to turn into a side street, and pull over, and wait until it subsided. I was so shaken I didn’t go to the gym, but turned around and went home again. I still remember the street I was driving down was called Kedron Brook Road, and the street I turned into was either Angliss Street, or Main Avenue, just for the record. The church itself was located on Macgregor Street, which also ran off Kedron Brook Road. This won’t mean anything to anybody here, but I remember the incident clearly, and I can still place the location clearly.
It reminds me of one of the characters in one of CS Lewis’ novels, who comes into contact with the “Oyarsa”, the word Lewis used in the book for the chief angel of Mars. He found he didn’t like contact with the “good” as much as he thought he might. He accepted he would not like “evil” as a matter of fact, but it was disconcerting to be faced with the “good” and to find it was a discouraging experience as well.
I suspect CS Lewis had considerable spiritual experiences of his own, but rather than write about them in an autobiographical way, he used them in his fiction eg. “The Screwtape Letters”.
