Hi all. I have had doubts and fears about certain things regarding the church for a long time. But these doubts are now seeming reasonable to me. I fear things aren’t what they appear. I fear the current state of the church and world in general. This is more of a statement than question.

Hey there, I can identify with what you feel. I look for answers but most often come up with more questions…and it seems like I have nobody to turn to. Should this cause guilt? I want to be able to believe what I once did. I don’t know how to pick up whatever remains of my faith

Hi fallensoldier, not sure I can advise. I’m detaching culture, emotions, preconceptions and trying to weigh things out. In my case, it is not looking like the church is going to be in my future. I don’t think there is a sanctuary left on this world. Not sure what is going on, but something is not right.

It’ll be alright. I dont think there is a single person on this planet who hasn’t doubted their beliefs multiple times in their life. Even I doubted for a long time and kinda lost faith in humanity. I think the only way to really overcome this is to take a step back and admire something for what it is. Yeah, the Church has a ton of terrible people. Mankind does as well. But when you look at what the Church is intended to be and what it has overcome, well, there is just some weird sense of beauty to it.

I think you are doing the right thing by putting emotions and such beside. Reason sometimes is the only way you can find your way in life. Just stay true to yourself and realize that home is where the heart is. I hope you find where you belong. Just remember, we all doubt. Doubting is the only reality-check we really have.

Thank you, I’m in hover mode. There is a lot of movement within the Vatican tonight…an emergency meeting called by the Pope. I’m watching intensely what unfolds. Perhaps stress is getting to me, perhaps it’s something else. I’m praying and fasting.

Been there and done that…👍…and still do pretty regularly…

Reason is a wonderful thing…and I have no doubt that things are NOT what they appear.
Yet when I feel burdened by such things, like the state of the Church and the condition of the world, I am comforted by Christ’s words and promises.
That Love is core…That all in the world is but transient (and that includes much of the, “current state of the Church”)…That what is real, and enduring is God’s Love, his peace, His desire that we ultimately be with Him.
I then look into my own state…am I living the life I am called to? Am I glorifying Him in what I say and do? Can others see, that which God is, (Love) in me?
When I see my own state, I recognize that I have my hands full just fulfilling what Christ has assigned to me…to be perfect (in Agape) as my heavenly Father is perfect (Mt 5:48).

While the above could be a source of discomfort (and it sometimes is) it is actually of great comfort in the long run for it gives me purpose and focus…not in despair, but in hope.

I hope this is of some comfort and use to you in your struggles.

Peace
James

In quite the opposite manner, I have more faith in the Church than ever. We have a new holy father who is clearly focusing on making things happen as to reform. We have Bishops that are more united than at any point in recent history. We have a Church that must reform, not only as a theological and moral imperative, but also under the microscope of the world. After decades in which the Church may have become fat and lazy, she is now headed to the gym.

Doubt and discouragement are the main weapons of the evil one. It is quite possible that you are under spiritual attack. I would speak with your Priest, remembering that our sanctuary is the Tabernacle. Consider making a pilgrimage there for the comfort and the consolation of the Holy Spirit. As the Apostle James writes, “resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” **James 4:7 **

Keep the Faith of our Fathers and persevere. Be a traditional Catholic.

Our faith is to be in God and in His Son, Christ Our Saviour, and in His Holy Spirit, and it is not to be shaken by this event or that event within the church, or any events outside of the church.

*Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. 5 Let all men know your forbearance. The Lord is at hand. 6 Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, do; and the God of peace will be with you.*

We have all been there to one degree or another. Hold on fast to the Faith and keep your eyes on Christ.

Hang on in there. We know from Sacred Scripture that very difficult times would come-but also times of great witness and of great hope. No matter what happens God;s final victory is assured and the gates of Hell will not prevail.
God Bless

We are living in the last days. and soon I believe that Jesus will take the reins of the church. There are a lot of bad things I see when I was at seminary in Wisconsin, liberal priests liberal seminarians liberal professors teaching liberalism. My formation advisor blatantly said he receives communion from any church. It goes on and on. No bishops publically defends life and Catholic public figures are never excommunicated and their agendas go on and on and the political picture is worse than hopeless and it looks like there is no end in sight. but there is an end to this. The second coming. That gives me the most hope that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. we as a country are done and we brought it upon ourselves turning by turning it’s back on God. The final straw happened in 1973. I never lose hope in the Catholic Church as Jesus will take over soon and so I have peace in that She will be in her full glory very soon. My opinion.

Thank you everyone, nods to my friends. This is going to take some time for me, a product of 42 years as a cradle catholic. To me, The Lord is more real then anything else in this world including people. I know it is an odd twist, but that is all I really know for sure. I’ll start from there.

The sanctuary, that entered earth’s realm in spite of it’s sin, is Christ. The Church is far from perfected by Him yet. But she tells us the truth about Him anyway, because He gaurantees us that much, regardless of how well she, herself, may or may not heed His message at any point in time. The sanctuary is here, but it’s to be found in God, not in any man.

True, but for me there are some things that are nonnegotiable in faith…the legitimacy of the consecration and persona Christi in reconciliation. One has been compromised repeatedly in my own experience judging by its fruit. The other is a struggle if faith considering the norm. I have experienced the Divine Liturgy of the Ruth. Byzantine rite. My oldest son received the life of the church in this rite after we were denied by my home parish in the Latin. This was decided on his legitimacy. I was 19 at the time. I was 32, in the hospital dying from chemo, ignorant in the faith, scared out of my mind. I requested that a priest come by. He stopped in. I told him I had lived a bad life. I didn’t know of confession, mortal sin, anything. He offered nothing but these words “take advantage of this grace” and left. What!!! What was grace? I nearly died three times in the following weeks. My dad died my last week of chemo. I buried him in the morning then drove 30 miles to outpatient treatment. A few days later a friend was murdered in Baltimore. He was shot four times in the face. On and on and on it goes to this day. Each time The Lord was there. Each time it was me and Him. That is real. That us more tangible than anything I have ever come across. It seems a world of ghosts at times, almost solipolistic. It is difficult to explain. Tim

Every day, ask God for the willingness and grace to accept and believe. Faith is a gift, not a strength or skill we develop. A gift. Ask for it consistently. Especially for the willingness. God is never coercive. We must accept the many gifts he offers because he won’t (well, almost never) thrust them upon us. Ask. God wants nothing more than for you to accept his love and to love him in return.
