No communion for politicians that support lethal punishment for crimes? You and your four likers must be a little confused. There’s nothing wrong with the death penalty. You might find this interesting: List of people executed in the Papal States - Wikipedia
The Papal States allowed execution and the Pope was the Chief of State so…

Abortion is an intrinsic evil. Quite frankly, it’s idiotic to compare the murder of innocent babies to executing people guilty of crimes or to not funding socialist programs.

**As Catholics we are not single-issue voters. Yet if a candidate’s position on a single issue promotes an intrinsically evil act, such as legal abortion, redefining marriage in a way that denies its essential meaning, or racist behavior, a voter may legitimately disqualify a candidate from receiving support. **
Note that the phrase mentions the candidate, not the party. It even says that we are to see beyond party politics. Also:
  1. There may be times when a Catholic who rejects a candidate’s unacceptable position
even on policies promoting an intrinsically evil act may reasonably decide to vote for that
candidate for other morally grave reasons. Voting in this way would be permissible only for truly grave moral reasons, not to advance narrow interests or partisan preferences or to ignore a fundamental moral evil.
However, two principles to consider are that moral equivalency must be avoided (comparing poverty to abortion, e.g.) and incremental improvement is acceptable, even though no Catholic teaching is “negotiable”.

Democratic Party platform for 2016

http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/papers_pdf/117717.pdf

Guaranteeing Civil Rights… 18 Guaranteeing Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Rights … 19

Pg. 19 “. We support a progressive vision of religious freedom that respects pluralism and rejects the misuse of religion to discriminate.”

Pg 45 “We will support sexual and reproductive health and rights around the globe. In addition to expanding the availability of affordable family planning information and contraceptive supplies, we believe that safe abortion must be part of comprehensive maternal and women’s health care and included as part of America’s global health programming. Therefore, we support the repeal of harmful restrictions that obstruct women’s access to health care information and services, including the “global gag rule” and the Helms Amendment that bars American assistance to provide safe, legal abortion throughout the developing world”

“Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender People Democrats believe that LGBT rights are human rights and that American foreign policy should advance the ability of all persons to live with dignity, security, and respect, regardless of who they are or who they love. We applaud President Obama’s historic Presidential Memorandum on International Initiatives to Advance the Human Rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Persons, which combats criminalization, protects refugees, and provides foreign assistance. We will continue to stand with LGBT people around the world, including fighting efforts by any nation to infringe on LGBT rights or ignore abuse.” END QUOTES

My friend your opinions seem not be be supported by the facts,

Democratic Party platform for 2016
I would say rather your opinion is not supported by facts. The USCCB document specifically refers to the candidate and the need to avoid party politics. You respond with a party platform. That is a fact, or at least basic English. Thus, no bishop has suggested that all Democrats be denied communion. It is absurd.

I see no need to debate back and forth. I think almost everyone here knows the difference between a tree and a forest.

It would be great just to see some politicians learn civility and to practice civility.
I know that Democrats, Republicans, and Independents, conservative or progress rarely agree on much. But it asking too much for them to treat each other with kindness and respect?
Compromise is not a dirty word. It means that people have worked together to try to achieve the best for us.
Join me in prayer to day. We average folks need to set an example for our elected officials. 🙏🙏🙏

“Human rights are not only violated by terrorism, repression or assassination, but also by unfair economic structures that creates huge inequalities.’ – Pope Francis

Since we’re quoting Popes:

“Pope Pius XI further emphasized the fundamental opposition between Communism and Christianity, and made it clear that no Catholic could subscribe even to moderate Socialism. The reason is that Socialism is founded on a doctrine of human society which is bounded by time and takes no account of any objective other than that of material well-being. Since, therefore, it proposes a form of social organization which aims solely at production; it places too severe a restraint on human liberty, at the same time flouting the true notion of social authority.” - Pope John XXIII

Pope Pius XI wasn’t speaking about pure communism, but German socialism and Soviet Communism. Taking his words out of context distorts what he was addressing.

Fact is, monasteries and convents practice pure communism, were the members live in community holding everything in common.

Capital punishment will not deter or prevent violence in prisons.
Now if you just want to kill people as a final punishment.
But it is still murder.

State your case without name calling, Deo.
You implied that I am an idiot. Please feel free to confess that to a priest. I know we live in the age of donald trump, but it is not necessary to insult me to make a point. It is your opinion that comparing abortion to capital punishment is idiotic. So you are calling me an idiot. That is wrong. I may be an idiot, but you have not right to call me an idiot.
Being a good Christian, I will not return the insult. Instead I will pray for you.
As for capital punishment…Killing is killing. The Commandment states that Thou shalt not kill. There is no asterisk saying that it is okay.
The Catholic Church may justify killing in rare occasions. But that was not God’s commandment. God said, “Thou shalt not kill.”
Killing is killing. Abortion is wrong. Capital punishment is wrong. And euthanasia is wrong. It is all killing.
Life in prison without parole. Solitary confinement. There are ways to deal with those who kill. But not to take their lives. That is wrong. And as the saying goes, two wrongs do not make a right.

The reason is that Socialism is founded on a doctrine of human society which is bounded by time and takes no account of any objective other than that of material well-being.
The problem with your trite picture is that in the case above, there is actually a definition given in the very article you quoted.
The reason is that Socialism is founded on a doctrine of human society which is bounded by time and takes no account of any objective other than that of material well-being.
In absence of this, whether you call it true socialism or not, what was said by Pope John XXIII does not apply, which is why we usually see the definition of terms, at least in places where discussion is genuine.

Edit: I will abide by any moderator request, but I was under the impression that free discussion was allowable, as long as rules are not violated. I was unaware of your request and will try to abide by it, at least as far as not quoting you or using your reply button, but will only post subsequent to an issue, until I forget again. It is rather unusual.

It would be idiotic to equate them, but comparison on commonalities does not require equality, only some legitimate correlation. There have been many bishops and theologians wiser than any of us that have used these common elements when speaking of pro-life issues, including Pope Francis (not an idiot).

I would add that since they cannot be equated, denying a pro-life politician communion can not be equated with denying a pro-capital punishment politician communion. In this case, it the difference directly pertains to why communion would be denied.

Though not church teaching, this is a fairly trustworthy opinion. Nobody is bound to it though.

“A sign of hope is the increasing recognition that the dignity of human life must never be taken away, even in the case of someone who has done great evil. Modern society has the means of protecting itself, without definitively denying criminals the chance to reform. I renew the appeal I made most recently at Christmas for a consensus to end the death penalty, which is both cruel and unnecessary.”

Saint John Paul II

Didn’t I tell you once before I had no intention of discussing anything with you? If you continue to direct posts at me I will flag them for harassment.

Capital punishment of a violent convict who continues to be violent while serving a life sentence, will most certainly prevent him from doing more violence in the future.

There can be no compromise with the liberals. Their political ideology lays waste to the life teachings of Jesus…the five Catholic non negotiables.
