=fred conty;10280612]Royalt, you said,
“For that one person whose soul was lost to hell the temptation of the apple overpowered the sacrifice of the crucifixion. Can the power of sin be greater than the mercy of God?”

Your catholic, so the answer is in this question: why do some catholics go to confession and others do not?
The Mercy of God is there for those who take it.
The Merciful cloak of God covers all but those who do not access it.
Just a thought.
***YES!

Here’s why.

God;s Mercy flows form the emotion of LOVE for us a Subjective reaction

God’s “Judgment” however Flows from Who God “Is”; Gods Divine; Perfect and necessarly “Fair and Just” Nature. Objective reality***.🙂

Catholics believe that the same grace that saves us through faith produces good works in us:

.
Now we are getting somewhere. So you believe God gives grace and that grace does not accomplish what God intended it to do. Sounds like God does something that has unintended results. Not good for The Lord of the universe to not get what He intends to have.

He’s willing to let us have our way- and oppose His-that’s the reason for hell and that’s the only reason sin exists, otherwise He’d be the author of sin. In Catholic theology grace can always be resisted. We can’t be saved without it, without God, IOW, but He still doesn’t save us without us, without our cooperation-because that’s how He wants it. What God “intends to have” are beings who’ve come to freely choose the good, to choose HIm, even as He helps us to do it.

Gracie is always sufficient, but not always efficacious.

You have demanded that we ‘refute’ somehow Romans 9 because our conclusion doesn’t satisfy your interpretation, but have failed to adequately respond to 1 Timothy 2: 4 and 2 Peter 3: 9.

The level of eisegesis going on here is incredible. The extent of the Calvinist argument: “Look at me, I’m a Calvinist, and I’m going to point to Romans 9 over and over again to deny that Christ came for everyone, and when someone points to another part of Scripture that contradicts my views, I’m going to pull out my secret weapon… Romans 9! Because we shouldn’t have to read ALL of Scripture to deny the Church! YA! And then we’ll point to Augustine’s writings on predestination and reprobation, but ignore completely his statements about the Church being One, the Real Presence in the Eucharist, and literally being both physical and invisible. Does it make sense? NO! But we’re Calvinists so who cares? Besides, we don’t have a choice!!! YA!”

Please stop demanding that we be on the defensive (as we have more than adequately answered your claims), answer our concerns adequately, stop continually switching back and forth between subjects, and selectively ignoring posts. Please answer how Romans can possibly refute another part of Scripture, and on what authority you base your interpretation (because once there is a contradiction, there must be an interpretation). This will improve my opinion of Calvinists slightly.

HAHAHAHA! I meant GRACE is always sufficient. NOT Gracie is always sufficient.

My DD’s name is Gracie so I guess I’m just used to typing that.

My dear friend in Christ;

GRACE is a broad topic. It is offered to us as a FREE Gift OFFERING from God [emphasi not shouting].

But God does not demand that it 1. Be accepted 2. Be rightly applied.

ALL grace; each form in it’s intended manner if offered to lead us to Heaven. To increase that possibility.

HELL is much larger;[check out the narrow gate…Mt. 7:13] therfore we can know much grace is often denied or misapplied.👍

God created EVERYONE in HOPE that they would all do what He demands to gain eternal Salvation. “HOPE” is a much better and more accurate word here than is “intended”🙂

I would love to speak on 1 Timothy 2: 4 and 2 Peter 3: 9 because I realize they appear to state a contradictory will within God. The point is that, maybe just maybe, someone has been reading these passages incorrectly.

As a RC in the 4th grade, I came to realize God gets everything He wants and this rule of thought has served me well because it is first biblical and second logical, So how do you reconcile Romans 9 with 1 Timothy and 2 Peter? I would like to hear it in your own words.

I would like to point out I am speaking of the grace of regeneration in bring spiritually dead people to life in justification. I do not deny people reject His grace often BTW. I am saying regenerating grace is by The Holy Spirit and like the wind we know where not it came from and where it goes.

The below verse is speaking directly to the subject at hand. 🙂

John 3:8

8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.

Truth is; has to be and shall always be SINGULAR

.

1st. Tim 2:4 [verses 1-5]
I desire therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men: For kings, and for all that are in high station: that we may lead a quiet and a peaceable life in all piety and chastity. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, [4] Who will have all men to be saved, and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator of God and men, the man Christ Jesus:

This means that Paul, God and the CC are in complete agreement on the issue of humanities salvation. ALL Desire that “all” humanity be saved; while at the same time knowing that it is not going to happen.

Mt. 7: 13-15 “Enter ye in at the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many there are who go in thereat. How narrow is the gate, and strait is the way that leads to life: and few there are that find it! Beware of false prophets, who come to you in the clothing of sheep, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.”

2nd. Peter 3:9 [verse 9-12]
[9]The Lord delayeth not his promise, as some imagine, but deals patiently for your sake, not willing that any should perish, but that all should return to penance… But the day of the Lord shall come as a thief, in which the heavens shall pass away with great violence, and the elements shall be melted with heat, and the earth and the works which are in it, shall be burnt up. … Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of the Lord, by which the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with the burning heat?

The Teaching is the same.
Peter; God and the CC DESIRE [wills = wants] everyone to be saved. But none of them believe its going to actually take place.

As a RC in the 4th grade, I came to realize God gets everything He wants and this rule of thought has served me well because it is first biblical and second logical, So how do you reconcile Romans 9 with 1 Timothy and 2 Peter? I would like to hear it in your own words
.

Your parameters are unclear. PLEASE be more specific.

ALL of Romans chapter 9?

The Entire First Timothy?

AND compare them in total to ALL of Second Peter?

What is you see that cause an issue for you?

I LOVE a challenge but this would take a book or two

God Bless,
Pat/PJM

If as I suspect andunderstand your position it references “imputed rightousness” or OSAS; none of the three [regenerative grace] is correcly biblical. Each is an error of presumption, based on either a limited, or perhaps an incorrect understanding?

**On the other hand **your talking about the effects od Christian Baptism; I can agree that a “renewal” takes place. Original sin in infants and ALL sins of adults [up to the point of being Baptized] are removed.

In both cases however, it is nealy always a temporary condition soon erased or solied by mans after Baptism sins.:o

1st. John 1:8-10 " If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. [9] If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all iniquity. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

John 3:5-8 [D R bible]

"Jesus answered: Amen, amen I say to thee, unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Ghost, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh, is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit, is spirit. Wonder not, that I said to thee, you must be born again. 8] The Spirit breatheth where he will; and thou hearest his voice, but thou knowest not whence he cometh, and whither he goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

Earl,
Let’s go through a little thought exercise.
Have you considered why God created us? The Catholic Church teaches that its because God wanted to share His love with us.

And what is our ultimate purpose: To love God in return.

And what is Love? Doing things for others without expecting any thing in return.

Love requires freedom. it can not be forced

So when God created us to love, He gave us Free will. And He knew that some would use that Free will for love and others would turn away from God.

Does God want all people to choose love? of course. But in order for it to be truly love, it must be freely given. And so God allows man to choose his own destiny out of respect for the dignity of His creation. If man wasn’t free to choose evil and selfishness, and ultimately hell, then he has no choice at all.

This ultimately isn’t a competition between God and Satan. Its about God loving everyone enough to give them true independence and freedom. God in his mercy and love will accept anyone back until their last breath on earth, but he will not force the stubborn to love him because that would not be love.

And by the way, predestination is not love and is therefore a false doctrine. Likewise, a legalistic OSAS philosophy is also not based on love and therefore is also a false doctrine

First of all I wish to thank most here for the cordial way you are speaking to me and how the lack of ad-hominem attacks against me personally are lacking. I try to understand that an attack against what I believe can lead to a more biblical understanding of scripture. Now with this in mind I do not want to totally separate my beliefs from myself because if I am conveying true simple exegesis of His Word, the attack is against God Himself. So let us strive to convey what a text of scripture says with the idea that His Word (the bible) is conveying a single thought of meaning.

I agree that we (those that believe and will eventually believe in Him) were created for a purpose. That is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. This I think we agree on. Now if so you will note I said “enjoy” and this does not mean everyone will enjoy Him in Hell. Those that end up there will glorify God without joy by displaying the just judgement they deserve. this also was His purpose (or will) as in Romans 9 it says…

“22 What if God, although** choosing **to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath—prepared for destruction? 23 What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory—”

Romans 9…IS speaking of predestination and is totally based on love. Ask Jacob. 🙂

Also once one is born again they will always be born again and thus shall be preserved all the days of ones new life in Christ.

So Earl, here’s the problem we instantly run into: how is the Bible to be interpreted? You see, it is very obvious to anyone who discusses scripture that the bible can be interpreted in different ways by well meaning people. And we all read scripture through the lenses of the Traditions we believe. As an example, Calvinist will understand Romans 9 to indicated that people are predestined prior to birth to be either saved or condemned because that is how Calvin read that passage and it has been passed down that way from Generation to Generation. Catholic tradition, however teaches that while some men are predestined for heaven, all men have the opportunity to be saved and so we read those passages to say that God bears with great patience the objects of his wrath (those that turn away from God through sin) - prepared for distruction. You see, it doesn’t have to mean that he predestined them to Hell. After all, earlier in the letter, Romans 2, Paul says the following:
1* Therefore, you are without excuse,a every one of you who passes judgment.* For by the standard by which you judge another you condemn yourself, since you, the judge, do the very same things. 2We know that the judgment of God on those who do such things is true. 3Do you suppose, then, you who judge those who engage in such things and yet do them yourself, that you will escape the judgment of God?b 4Or do you hold his priceless kindness, forbearance, and patience in low esteem, unaware that the kindness of God would lead you to repentance?c 5By your stubbornness and impenitent heart,d you are storing up wrath for yourself for the day of wrath and revelation of the just judgment of God, 6e who will repay everyone according to his works:* 7eternal life to those who seek glory, honor, and immortality through perseverance in good works, 8but wrath and fury to those who selfishly disobey the truth and obey wickedness.f 9Yes, affliction and distress will come upon every human being who does evil, Jew first and then Greek. 10g But there will be glory, honor, and peace for everyone who does good, Jew first and then Greek. 11* h There is no partiality with God.
So Earl, how do we arbitrate how to understand the letter to the Romans? Doesn’t it go back to the credibility of the Traditions through which we understand these verses? We would say that Catholic tradition was initiated by Jesus through the Apostles and we can show through the writings of the Early Church Fathers that it has been understood the same way throughout the centuries. Calvin, on the other hand, was clear that he was the one that came up with his particular brand of theology and his followers call themselves Calvinists as a result. Why is his understanding of this more credible than that which was taught exclusively for 1500 years prior to his birth?
I agree that we (those that believe and will eventually believe in Him) were created for a purpose. That is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. This I think we agree on. Now if so you will note I said “enjoy” and this does not mean everyone will enjoy Him in Hell.
I do indeed note that you said “enjoy” and I wonder how you came up with that. While it is true that there is joy in heaven, that is a by product of fulfilling our purpose, not the purpose itself. Our purpose is very clear in scripture. It is the great commandment: Love God with all your heart, soul and mind and love your neighbor as yourself. And by love, I mean serving God and neighbor selflessly. If you doubt this, read 1 Corinthians 13.
Those that end up there will glorify God without joy by displaying the just judgement they deserve. this also was His purpose (or will) as in Romans 9 it says…

I must admit, I don’t understand what you are driving for here. Can you clarify?

God wishes all souls to get to heaven as you know and that as I showed in the above post, even in the same letter, Paul acknowledges that the judgement on attaining heaven or hell is not predestined but is based on their works, with those who do evil being condemned to affliction and distress and those who do good to glory.

This is a very hard position to defend through scripture. Let’s look at what the apostles have to say about it:

2Peter3: 17-18 -->17Therefore, beloved, since you are forewarned, be on your guard not to be led into the error of the unprincipled and to fall from your own stability.n 18But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory now and to the day of eternity. [Amen.]

They do it to win a perishable crown, but we an imperishable one.q 26Thus I do not run aimlessly; I do not fight as if I were shadowboxing. 27No, I drive my body and train it, for fear that, after having preached to others, I myself should be disqualified.*

I came from the RC tradition and found that I could no longer stay there because it supplants the bible with tradition. The point being is that Romans 9 is obviously speaking of predestination of Jacob and Esau before they were born and it speaks of God’s will being the reason. This is so evident because of verses 20-23 can ONLY be written if one has a view of “free will” in mind.
Here we have Paul speaking to those who are “unrepentant”.

Are you saying all the church fathers were perfect in their exegesis…I claim no such thing of Calvin and the Reformers. Once again I came from the RC church and it lacked so much understanding in the interpretation of scripture it was obvious to me they supplanted His word with tradition. Jesus would often say “you have heard” to correct the wrong tradition by stating have you not read. Even Jesus, the Word of God used the inspired text of The Holy Spirit to correct wrong tradition.
I do indeed note that you said “enjoy” and I wonder how you came up with that. While it is true that there is joy in heaven, that is a by product of fulfilling our purpose, not the purpose itself. I am driving the point that those in hell will fulfill His purpose or IOW His will to glorify Himself. Some vessels are made to honor and other for dishonor. Once again this is EXACTLY what Romans 9 is speaking of.

in 2 Peter we have the grace of God warning us to keep aware. those that are his will follow this warning each and every time eventually. Some take a while to come around to false teaching. 🙂

In 1 Cor we have the assurance to press on train for the lost souls we encouter.

So far as defending OSAS I would rather say preservation of the saints or the ones who are born again. Also Jesus said that no one would snatch them out of His hands…which includes all the elect or born again believers…I know that sounds redundant because of course the only people who really believe are born again by The Holy Spirit Who like the wind comes from and goes where ever he pleases and you and I know not where he goes or comes from.

Also you are part of creation Romans 8:37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor** anything else in all creation**, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I came from the RC tradition and found that I could no longer stay there because it supplants the bible with tradition.

Actually Earl…you supplanted RC tradition with another tradition…that of Calvin.

from 1John 4…6 We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit[a] of truth and the spirit of falsehood.

Applying that passage above…my question to you is…how do you know Calvin is correct? Why do you believe Calvin more than anybody else?
