Hello, is anybody home?

I really believe that if a site or forum wants to represent itself as Catholic, it should ban disrespect for the Pope such as referring to him as ‘Bergoglio’ or ‘a wolf in sheep’s clothing’ or a ‘false shepherd’ and much worse. I’m on a Christian non Catholic forum at the moment that is constantly referencing the disrespect for the Pope as proof that the Church isn’t the One Church.

I do agree that name-calling doesn’t get us anywhere. And I agree with @Mark121359 that criticizing ideas is generally fair game (with exceptions such as criticizing infallible teachings).

Just checking in… do we have any idea when this forum is going to get up and running?

Or is it “up and running” now, and hardly anyone is participating?

I still miss CAF.

We see a “cult of Francis” which appears to hold credulity as a doctrine and seems to attach (wrongly) infallibility to everything he says. The rest of us struggle to understand him and by this struggle, our faith is tested. Some use his words to justify all manner of deviation from doctrine. And, when we make note of that, we become the problem. (Sigh)

So, prayers for unity.

The short answer is that my best estimate is the end of June.

The long answer is that I still have about 2 weeks of work to do, but my mental health issues have prevented me from making much progress. I felt really great for a few weeks in December, but I spent most of that time getting caught up on mail and email. I semi-retired last April, so at least I don’t have to worry about holding down a job.

I was diagnosed with PTSD in November but now I’m wondering if I just have “plain old” depression. Treatments for those two mental health issues are similar, but not quite the same. I’ve upped my meds about a week ago, which is the best course of action if I do in fact have depression. It generally takes a few weeks for medication changes to take effect.

So the most accurate answer is “one month after I start feeling better.”

I have personally experienced that on a few occasions. And to be clear, I’m not talking about arguing with Pope Francis (or any Pope, for that matter), but to listen intently to a wise and holy man and learn to differentiate between an off-hand comment vs. a teaching of the church. That’s not even to mention the times that he is misquoted or quoted out of context by the media.

I don’t attach infallibility to anything Pope Francis says. This is my position.
When the Magisterium of the Church makes an infallible pronouncement and solemnly declares that a teaching is found in Revelation, the assent called for is that of theological faith. This kind of adherence is to be given even to the teaching of the ordinary and universal Magisterium when it proposes for belief a teaching of faith as divinely revealed.

When the Magisterium proposes “in a definitive way” truths concerning faith and morals, which, even if not divinely revealed, are nevertheless strictly and intimately connected with Revelation, these must be firmly accepted and held.

When the Magisterium, not intending to act “definitively”, teaches a doctrine to aid a better understanding of Revelation and make explicit its contents, or to recall how some teaching is in conformity with the truths of faith, or finally to guard against ideas that are incompatible with these truths, the response called for is that of the religious submission of will and intellect. This kind of response cannot be simply exterior or disciplinary but must be understood within the logic of faith and under the impulse of obedience to the faith. - Donum Veritatis
So there’s no need to sigh. I’m successfully ‘cancelled’ and that site is now a little band of people who all think like you. Well done.

Let’s please keep this thread to a discussion of the site generally (timelines, policies, etc.).

On a related note, I’d like to hear everyone’s thoughts about how Reddit handles side discussions with their “continue this thread” links. The user interface is a bit clunky (it opens the side discussion in a new window rather than inline), but it seems like it could be a good way to keep the main topic on point while allowing side discussions.

Stella, I have questions about CCF, but I can’t send you a message.
Hi Leaf, You don’t happen to be a member of CARM do you? I’ve been cutting my teeth in the ‘Roman Catholic’ section there in defence of Catholic teaching of late under the name Stella1000. It has pm’s.

Yeah, I’ve been banned permanently from CARM. But this forum has PMs if you enable them in your profile and don’t hide your profile. Try sending me one, for example. (I was LifeIn on CARM. You may still see my posts from 6 or 7 months ago when I was banned.)

It is “live” in the sense that posts work and PM’s work. The only problem is active members. There aren’t any. There are lots of members registered automatically through their CAF login, but only a couple of people every both to look here.

The archives are still available, so if you want to recall a thread, a topic, or remember someone to pray for, the search function will bring it up.
