The war in Iraq did not fail because of Obama. Aside from the fact that it wasn’t a very good idea in the first place and there were no weapons of mass destruction (WMD), It failed because the occupation and reconstruction of Iraq were completely mismanaged by the Bush administration. And the withdrawal date was negotiated by the Bush administration, not the Obama administration. The US was asked by the Iraqi government which we put in place to withdraw and had no legal basis in international law for remaining in Iraq.I’ve always thought it more prudent to wait a few years after a president has left office to rank him. The “failed” war was because Obama pulled out our troops too soon and he is doing the same in Afghanistan. And the deficit–Obama has added more to the deficit than any combination of the foregoing presidents, including a combination of all of them.
As for the deficit, most of that was because of the bailout of our economy as a result of the economic meltdown and recession that began under the Bush administration. Also, as a percentage of the national debt that existed when he took office, Bush added $5.849 trillion to the national debt or a 101% increase. Obama, coming into office at the beginning of the biggest recession since World War II, added $6.563 trillion (not a whole lot more than what Bush added) or a 55.4% increase.
