It is an odd system, but it places a lot more power into the delegates of the state being sent to the convention. The will of the voter reigns supreme as long as a candidate has enough delegates committed to supporting him through to a first ballot victory.

After the first ballot, the delegate has all the power, and the voter is no longer a part of the process, except as one of the considerations that the delegate makes about the general election to follow.

It is not really a democracy, but then again most Americans insist on that point that theirs is not a democracy.

Bill was a great president in my opinion. I saw crime in my neighborhood in Dallas really drop. Hispanics from the community were getting help with college. Not some local community college, but with schools like Harvard and Notre dame.

Look bill did some stupid things. His hands were dirty since Arkansas. Mind you, the whole Monica thing was a big joke on his part. But let’s be honest, how many politicians don’t have any skeletons in their closet?

Exactly. I was watching race for the White House last week on cnn.

It was presidential race were Lincoln won. Now Lincoln has one of the best raps of all our presidents. But some of the things that his backers did, would have made you say, wow. I mean we could play, good Saint bad Saint, but at the end of the day I’m glad his backers did what they did to get him elected.

Just speaking for myself personally, I don’t really have a problem with winner take all states; I just have a problem with the way some people embrace the rules that help them (like winner take all states) but start talking about riots when they encounter rules that don’t help them (like needing a majority of delegates).

Hi Little Sheep, I am glad I found you here tonight. Although you might now be retired from CAF til after the Easter holiday.

But we have had a lot of discussion about superdelegates as you well know.

Anyway, as I was watching a bit of coverage about Bernie’s wins in Alaska and Washington, not unexpected I imagine even in the Clinton camp, the pundits were discussing delegates.

And as I understood it, besides Hillary receiving 2.6 million more votes than Bernie as of earlier this wk, she actually still has a larger lead in delegates than Obama had over her in 08 at this stage among pledged delegates - those that are not superdelegates.

Is that correct?

I thought if anyone on CAF could confirm this for those misunderstanding the superdelegate math, it would be none other than Little Sheep.

I expected landslide wins for Bernie in Washington and Alaska, Sy, but not in Hawaii, Obama’s home state, yet there it is: 70%-30%. I kind of expect him to take Wisconsin. But I think Hillary will be strong in Pennsylvania, New York, and California. Huge number of delegates at stake there.

Something that helped bill not be so liberal was how the democrats lost control of the house. The man knew if he wanted to get stuff done he had to speak to republicans. Were they still acting like little kids? Of course, but the republicans in congress and Clinton in the White House knew in order to get work done, they had to set their egos aside.

And yet Obama has done exactly the opposite. And how has it worked out: the GOP is tripping over itself, if not destroying itself, trying to figure out whether to cooperate with him or not.
