He who defines the language wins the debate. I believe the increased use of the generic is setting us up for accepting SS"M". Note how “racial discrimination” morphed into just “discrimination” which made all discrimination bad.
All discrimination is bad.

I do not live in the USA so I can only guess as to where you come from, by the hatred your husband has for others, my guess is down South. If I was your daughter and future son in-law, I would be heading somewhere where no one could find me and get married alone. For so much hate to be thrown at this lads parents is shocking, they have done your husband no wrong…This is exactly the type of rubbish thats turns people away from religion and makes me so angry. Jesus came for the sinner, he surrounded himself with the down trodden, sinners and outcasts of society, and had no hate in him for anyone, even when crucified, he asked for forgiveness for his oppressors. From what I can read into this thread, the ones who should be a concern to everyone is both your husband and his brother, they sounds like someone who would belong to the KKK they are more of a concern than anyone else in this. How a Christian can have so much hate in them is beyond me. We are all Gods children regardless of what we do or who we are, he loves us unconditionally.
We can hate the sin but never the sinner, and we are all assuming there is a sin involved here, as I said before how do we know they actually have sexual relations, we dont, we assume. Having said that, we are not God, let go and let God be the judge, just as he will be for you and me, then lets see who is the bigger sinner… Sorry for rambling on, but I detest being judgemental.

I disagree. I discriminate all the time by this definition dictionary.reference.com/browse/discrimination?s=t. If a person is part of the Nazi party I’m discriminating against him in a whole lot of ways.

But I think I get what you’re saying and I agree 😉

INTOLERANCE is the word I have a problem with. “Tolerance” and “intolerance” are neutral words.

But I digress…
I will not discriminate a Nazi. The love of Christ demands that all be loved. If I have the love of Christ in me, I should be able to love a Nazi. In fact, I would feel pity on them, that they can’t see the world through the eyes of one loved by Christ.

Wow, one sentence in and you insult an entire region.

Your statement is incredibly offensive.

I just have to note that I once saw a neo-Nazi and an openly gay man hug at a school retreat. The former went on to become a secretary general of the ANSP while the latter I’ve lost all touch with after he moved East.

Sorry, but when I’m picking babysitters or inspirational speakers I’m discriminating against the Nazi.

Do I hope they convert and see the love of Christ? Sure. But I’m still discriminating in specific circumstances.

Weird post. OP says both couples have been together for 30 years, which places them in the 1970’s. It would have been very unusual for a gay couple of either gender to have children at that time.

The OP says the lesbian half of the parents are normal. She hasn’t mentioned the gay male part yet. While women can be monogamous in a lesbian relationship, it is very rare that gay men are monogamous, even if they are in “committed” relationships. Gay men know the truth, and their “marriages” are not like heterosexual marriages. Both partners will likely carry on having sexual encounters other than their partner.

However unusual this thread is, with all the gay people having and adopting children these days, the situation is bound to increase over time.
That is a really uncharitable and ignorant thing to say. Reminds me of the people who say that Priests cannot remain celibate.

Pray tell, why can’t homosexuals can be faithful to each other?

I would be more concerned about who the man is your daughter is seeking to marry than what his parents are doing. Is he Catholic? What does he think about the Church’s teaching? Will they be marrying in the Catholic Church, etc?

Certainly I know people who are good Catholics who were raised by homosexuals. It can cause some hurt feelings for a child of homosexuals to take on traditional Christian values about sexuality.

As far as excluding them from the wedding and shunning them, that is totally unchristian behavior. We should treat everyone with love and respect regardless of what their sins are or whether or not they are repentant.

They are spiritual. They believe in God, but not a judgemental God. It’s all very confusing to me. We weren’t brought up this way. We were taught to hate these homosexuals becasue of various reasons. I am behind with the times. I know my husband will not tolerate them. He has a hard enough time with our daughter being ‘spiritual’.
I just can’t see us being a happy family for future grandchildren. This saddens me more than anything.
Whatever, in the end it will just be your loss. It sounds like your daughter, her boyfriend, and the boyfriend’s parents all have a good bond. So, if you can’t accept them and act like a loving human being, then they’ll probably just break contact with you. I know I would. Sounds like you’re the ones who would cause trouble for the future grandchildren. You say your husband won’t tolerate them. That’s not very Christian.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that you don’t know very many homosexuals, as this isn’t the case at all. It is a rude and judgmental though. It’s not like CAF surprises me anymore with this kind of rhetoric, but I still can’t stand it.

Then I guess you weren’t taught by Christians.

Yes, you’re WAY out on the limb, and I’m not going into how I know, but trust me, I know. Rude? No. It’s the blunt truth.

I’m also going to say that you’re misinformed.
I don’t actually care what your opinion is. People who know, know I’m right. People who are in denial about what gay men really do, are living in a fantasy world.

Nevertheless, I still think this thread is a troll.

You know every married gay couple? Are you talking about gay men not in a relationship or what? I think that many who are married take their commitment seriously. It’s rude to assume that gay married men are unfaithful. I know of several gay couples (not married) who are extremely faithful and committed.

“About what gay men really do”???

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Describing an entire population based on the actions of a few vocal and visible members is just plain ignorance.

And when you say things like that you are insulting a lot of people with an untrue statement. Some of them may be CAF members, or close friends or relatives of members.

I agree. The generalising going on in this thread is ridiculous. Its wrong and unfair to say that everyone in the South is bigoted, just like it is for one to claim that Europe is a den of iniquity and licentiousness. (something i ve read many, many times on CAF.)

Similarly, not all gay men in serious relationships cheat on their partners, just like not all conservatives are ‘far right’ neo-Nazis and wife beaters.

Stereotypes go both ways people.

Regardless of whether this thread is trolling or not (Iam thinking it isn’t) I am glad it was opened, because it has resulted in some important discussion and it is refreshing to see posts from those proving the mainstream view of Christians hating homosexuals, to be false.

I appologise to anyone I insulted or hurt with my last post, that was not my intention. Please accept my sincere apologies…
