Agreed. And exactly why I also believe ‘annemarie’ is a troll. This is an absolutely ridiculous statement to anyone who actually knows the Catholic church or Christianity in general. I was raised Catholic, and furthermore have attended churches in many parts of the country and overseas, and not once, in any of them, have I heard any Catholic say we should hate homosexuals. Let me emphasize that: not once in over 40 years of near-weekly attendance have I heard such a thing.Originally Posted by annemarie12345
They are spiritual. They believe in God, but not a judgemental God. It’s all very confusing to me. We weren’t brought up this way. We were taught to hate these homosexuals…
It gets quite old, this silly chant that anyone who disagrees with homosexual behavior ‘hates’ someone. I would like to know why the same thing isn’t being said about all those who are fighting against smoking–that they are evil, mean-spirited people who ‘hate’ smokers. This argument that we ‘hate’ gays is just as ridiculous.
As to how monogamous gay men are, if they are just as monogamous, on average, as heterosexual couples, then that needs to be taken up with many studies on the subject, including studies published in some major journals of medicine and psychology.
From this page: factsaboutyouth.com/posts/monogamy/
Just one excerpt:
Psychologytoday.com has an article under the heading of Gay and Lesbian Well-being in which they say:In contrast, long-term sexual fidelity is rare among GLB couples, particularly among gay males. Even during the coupling period, many gay men do not expect monogamy. **A *lesbian ***critic of gay males notes that:
“After a period of optimism about the long range potential of gay men’s one-on-one relationships, gay magazines are starting to acknowledge the more relaxed standards operating here, with recent articles celebrating the bigger bang of sex with strangers or proposing ‘monogamy without fidelity’-the latest Orwellian formulation to excuse having your cake and eating it too.”3
Gay men’s sexual practices appear to be consistent with the concept of “monogamy without fidelity.” Astudy of gay men attending circuit parties showed that 46 percent were coupled, that is, they claimed to have a “primary partner.” Twenty-seven percent of the men with primary partners “had multiple sex partners (oral or anal) during their most recent circuit party weekend . . . .”4 For gay men, sex outside the primary relationship is ubiquitous even during the first year. Gay men reportedly have sex with someone other than their partner in 66 percent of relationships within the first year, rising to approximately 90 percent if the relationship endures over five years.5,6 And the average gay or lesbian relationship is short lived. In one study, only 15 percent of gay men and 17.3 percent of lesbians had relationships that lasted more than three years.7 Thus, the studies reflect very little long-term monogamy in GLB relationships.
There are plenty of studies and reports, including those favorable to gays, that say the same thing. Many coupled gay men maintain unions in which they have agreed to be sexually nonexclusive,
If none of this is true, then there are a *lot *of studies that need to be taken to task, along with the gays and lesbians who participated and apparently told the researchers these things.
