I looked Gerard Butler up on the web just now and on every site I went to it says that he was raised in a strict Catholic home, so i guess I was right after all. My standard isn’t so low after all.

I’m still going to say that this person or that person must be catholic only in title.
I’ll bepleased if you do in future say “catholic only in title”, but you previously only identified them as “a Catholic”.
I don’t have the God given right to look at a person and pass any kind of judgement before truely knowing them.
As I said, “passing judgment” has got nothing to do with any discussion as to whether someone is practising the Catholic religion.

Petergee;1898296:
ISTM you’ve got a pretty low standard of proof. Maybe his brother-in-law is a Cayholic.
Hmmm, I guess you have a pretty low standard of manners.
I didn’t say I was 100% sure he was Catholic, so maybe read a little closer next time.
I did. You said you were “almost positive that Gerard Butler is Catholic” based only on the fact that “He talked about his **sister **having a big catholic wedding”. My sister had a big atheist wedding. Does that make you almost positive that I’m an atheist?
And maybe brush up on a polite way of talking to someone.

Ifyou had found and presented that piece of evidence before making your assertion, then your standard of proof would have beena little higher. But still far from conclusive. It would only have proved that he was a Catholic as a boy.

Another that has not been mentioned and has had an exemplary career is Kate Mugrew who played the Captian of the Enertprise on “Star Tred, Voyager”. I once saw her interviewed on, I think, David Letterman and she was so enthusiaticaly Catholic! She was wonderful and knowledgeable about the faith and actually answered objections to Catholicism on his show!
She also starred in a great movie in which she played Elisabeth Anne Seton. A must see protrayal of the first American female Saint. She truly is one of the best actresses alive today, and has always chosen her films with her faith in mind. as far as I can tell.

Are Catholics not supposed to be feminists?
Yes indeed, in its dictionary sense of “advocates of equal rights for women”. Not in the meaning some people apparently give it, of “pro-abortion, pro-contraception, anti-marriage, anti-patriarchy and anti-men”. Unfortunately it seems the word “feminist” is being degraded, like the word “liberal”. It would help if Catholics used both words in their proper sense, e.g. “The Catholic Church is an eminently feminist and liberal institution.”

I agree with this. Sometimes people stereotype “feminist”.

Are Catholics not supposed to be feminists?
By “feminist” I mean how the “world” views feminism. Many non-Catholic Christians and non-Christians and even some Catholics think that the Catholic Church is against women because of that label of “feminism.” But the Catholic Church is for ALL people who are in Christ including and especially for women. If it wasn’t for the Catholic Church women would not be where they are right now.

And also the Catholic church would have died out a long time ago with out us women. You need us to be fruitful and multiply.

Here goes:

Great. He made one of my fav films.

“as you wish…”

Another wonderful Catholic Convert was the talented musical star, June Haver. She was married to Fred MacMurray.

I know this is about Catholics in Hollywood but I would like to mention some wonderful Christian Entertainers who always allowed their deep faith influence their work. I was aquainted with Roy Rogers and Dale Evans (knew Roy’s sister and neice and had met his mother many times). I met Dale Evans at Charismatic Prayer meetings a few times.
The other one is the contemporary commedian, Synbad. This is another good Christian man with a fine family. My son knows him and he is very funny but always decent with the work he does.

Sorry to derail this fine thread but I wanted to give a little credit to a couple of separated Brothers and Sisters.

Well knock me over with a feather! Wouldn’t have picked her in a gajillion years …

I imagine Bing and Bob are probably in the same parish as Loretta, Maureen, Alfred and Frank now 🙂

Stephen Colbert!👍
I don’t think he knows the faith, not sure on that one though. I don’t even know if he’s actually a practicing Catholic. 😦 I’m not sure so don’t quote me on this. But from what I’ve seen on TV he doesn’t seem to know the faith. Does he?

I want to say that I had read that Roma Downey was raised Catholic. I still miss “Touched By An Angel”!

I miss that show too. :gopray2: We used to watch that show religiously, no pun intended since that show was mainly about God and His angels and not about Jesus Christ. I never once heard them mention Jesus, just God. Not that there’s anything wrong with mentioning God. It’s just that Jesus said that no one is to go to the Father unless through Him.

I watched her on Pax TV when she was host of “It’s A Miracle.” I used to love that show and I wish it was still on. Richard Thomas hosted that show first but then Roma started hosting it. I missed Richard Thomas too 😦 but then I got used to Roma hosting it. 🙂

Hey, could Richard Thomas be Catholic? He was “John boy” on the Waltons. I watched that show too. 😃

I don’t know about Richard Thomas.

It is true, Jesus was never mentioned on TBAA, but compared to most other TV shows, I would say for ‘secular’ t.v. this show was an excellent show. I didn’t watch TBAA for theology–just to be uplifted and inspired.

God Bless,

Barbara
