And I will say it again: That’s not a point I am disputing. But if it makes you feel better to say it again, go right ahead.
Fill out the forms, take the physical exam, get police clearance, and take a number … we admit one million per year … wait your turn .

Are you sure? My ex-husband ancestors came here legally in the 1700’s. Then rules and boundaries changed, so they were illegal. Then rules changed again and they were legal.

Btw, they are Acadian, forefathers of Cajun/Creole, in case you want to look up American history. While you’re at it you might want to check into Florida and most of the Southwest.

We’re annexing Mexico and Honduras? This is news to me. I guess I just don’t keep up with the news as much as I should. Thanks for the update.

I think the only requirement at the port of entry at the time my Grandparents came over was being healthy and not have any communicable decease. These folk coming up from Honduras are seeking asylum. Which at least for now is not illegal. Plus they are not even close yet. So how can the be illegal

Here is a slightly humorous video of Tucker Carlson mocking the media:
“What we’re actually seeing is relentless dishonesty from the people who are paid to inform us,” Carlson quipped. "There is nothing to worry about, they tell us like we’re children. But they don’t really know that. They don’t know anything. They’re wholly ignorant and utterly self-confident.
The whole thing is no big deal. These are nice people. Every single one of them much better people than you are. They have the deep moral authority that comes from living in a third world country, unlike you mister pampered suburbanite. They’re not invaders they are future model Americans. There is nothing at all to worry about we’re told.
Well, that’s been the chorus from politicians and news anchors who think they’re politicians for weeks and weeks now. If you have any concern at all about this caravan you are a bad person. In fact, you sir, are a racist…
There’s the line of the day, more mothers than monsters. Turns out that’s not quite right, more brothers than mothers, actually. According to the border patrol, the caravan is in fact about 70% single men, not families women and children, but overwhelmingly single men.
According to Mexico’s own ambassador, many in the group are “very violent”, that’s what he recently told NPR. So to restate the caravan is in fact heavily male and highly dangerous. When the Mexican ambassador says that to public radio, which you’re looking at obviously is racism, more right-wingery, just kidding.
What we’re actually seeing is relentless dishonesty from the very people who are paid to inform us. There’s nothing to worry about they tell us, like we’re children, but they don’t really know that, they don’t really know anything. They are wholly ignorant and yet utterly self-confident.
They’re good at moralizing and light on facts.

If asylum was their only goal, they’d accept Mexico’s offer of asylum.

For what reasons? If it was religious persecution, they are to go to the the next closest country. If it is for economic reasons, this does NOT qualify as a reason for asylum.

They are seeking asylum in the US. Not Mexico. Mexico has it problems as well. I will leave the reason as to why to them. I am not walking in their shoes. I will not judge.

I need you in the discussion that I was having about American exceptionalism. Clearly you agree with me that America is the best (or one of the best) countries in the world. Otherwise, they’d be going somewhere else.

I feel blessed that my Grandparents risking everything with only the clothes on their backs and what they could carry. Came to the US. They are my heroes. The US is the only country I have lived in or known. (excluding my time in the Army) I cannot speak about living in another countries. Our country is not perfect and has had her issues. But we as a people have always learned from those mistakes and moved forward. That is what made our country great. And I want to keep it that way. Although this is not in the constitution. I do believe this is a big part of what made our country great.
“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.”
When we stop being this we stop being great.

Oh, that reminds me of something that makes me absolutely furious: the Afghan interpreters who helped us at the risk if their lives and were promised to be brought here, but then were not.

But of course they cannot walk here… And the media doesn’t think they make a good photo op, so they remain forgotten…

If you had to choose, which would you choose, Mexico or the U.S ?
