At this point, it is well-known what to do to “claim asylum,” so what do you think the people will do?
It’s not like the people from Latin America are all innocent souls just trying for a better life. There are also a lot of gangsters and drug dealers and killers in Latin America. Do you really think that all those young men–which is what I see in the pictures of the crowds, with close-ups of small groups of women and children, probably the same ones each time–are just innocent souls with true claims to asylum in the US?
Hardly.
And what would happen in Honduras if those men who are burning the US flag while trying to flee and claim refuge in the US were to stay and fight against the corruption, to be agents for change in their own nation? To protect the women and children there instead of leaving them behind to face what they themselves are claiming flight from?
I don’t know what the answer is, and I do wish the US (my country), would stop messing so weirdly in other nations and get our immigration laws straight, but there are a lot of people here already suffering, for whom we are supposed to care first.
I see no need to let in thousands of young US-flag-burning men; someone once did that by mistake and look what happened to them.
