Thanks Thbolt for this post on-topic.What about Davies article : “Testing the efficacy of homemade masks: would they protect in an influenza pandemic?”

Well it is “tomorrow”.Thanks Thbolt for this post on-topic.
I will look at it perhaps tomorrow and try to get back to you.
But of course corona virus (the novel type) has only been around a few months. Not since 2013. So it is impossible to take an influenza study and apply it to a corona virus study. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that a homemade mask should only be considered as a last resort to prevent droplet transmission from infected individuals, but it would be better than no protection.
None of the suggested articles below this showed anything conclusive in this sphere either.FrankFletcher . . . Who really cares? A lot of people who see a larger principle than mere “masks”. It is another instance of Government ordering citizens around in an arbitrary fashion. There is no scientific evidence masks, the way they are being used, will help stop the pandemic. Don’t get me wrong i think it will. But without hard evidence, and VOLUNTARY adherance, there is nothing to this except bullying citizens. Minor spell correction from me.Don’t get me wrong it think it will.
But without hard evidence, and VOLUNTARY adherance, there is nothing to this except bullying citizens.
There are no controlled randomized studies asserting the efficacy of this in societies. None.
(I think it COULD be an effective help, but we don’t know that. Especially with people wearing them bwlow their noses, sometimes even on their chin, and constatly fiddling with the germ filters, than touching things.)
By the way. This is the standard opponents of hydroxychloroquine have asked for. A standard I have never disagreed with by the way.FrankFletcher . . . Who really cares? Yes Tbolt but that was with influenza virus. So, I think that this says that homemade masks do help a lot . . .
As Dr. Lisa Maragakis, Senior Director of Infection Prevention at Johns Hopkins Medical School explained, flattening the curve means that “ the same large number of patients arrived at the hospital at a slower rate. [emphasis mine]”
Bold mine (Notice even with CNN’s reports,Neck fleeces, also called gaiter masks and often used by runners, were the least effective. In fact, wearing a fleece mask resulted in a higher number of respiratory droplets because the material seemed to break down larger droplets into smaller particles that are more easily carried away with air.
Folded bandanas and knitted masks also performed poorly and did not offer much protection.
“We were extremely surprised to find that the number of particles measured with the fleece actually exceeded the number of particles measured without wearing any mask,” Fischer said. "We want to emphasize that we really encourage people to wear masks, but we want them to wear masks that actually work."
I would not call handkerchiefs, etc. “surgical”. Just because they cover up part of a person’s face, does not necessitate effectiveness, and certainly not “surgical” (at least in terms of a surgeon’s mask which is used once, tied appropriately, fits correctly, sterile to begin with, etc.).They make their own surgical in the Philippines
Sounds good. “An apple a day keeps the doctor away “ doesn’t always work that wellOn the bright side, Sclafani told the New York Post, their practice is “packing in breath-conscious patients who might otherwise neglect their dental health during the pandemic.”
I apologise to you graciew. My fault. I get what you are saying.I am not as good as you selecting paragraphs to answer, I’m sorry.
