I am so SO proud of these kids! Rock on! and I know some of you wont agree, but at least these kids are taking a stand, standing up for their beliefs, coming together to fight for what they believe is right.I live in houston and today it is cold and thunder storming outside, these kids are tough!

Nothing more inspiring than protesting a proposed law you have never read except for what was on cnn.com or the AP website.

How do you know they have never read it? have you asked them? I have a friend who teachers for HISD and the kids are emailing each other copies of the laws. They are informed and organized. Dont be so judgemental, just because they are kids doesnt make them ignorant. At least they are fighting for what they believe in.

I feel sorry for these kids today. IT is pouring out here in stafford and they are all walking down Murphy Road. As for people saying these kids don’t know what the law says don’t under estimate kids. If their driving a car that means they are close enough to vote in the next election. They will be your equals according to the government in your right to voice your opinion. They have just as much right to say anything about how are government is run.

I hope the kids receive zeros for skipping class and an appropriate amount of after-school detention.

If they want to hold a meaningful protest, do it before or after school. This would lend them credibility. From where I sit, they look like any other kids who got a chance to skip school.

That’s exactly what I think. I guaranatee most of these kids have the same mindset most teenagers have: walk out = vacation day.

How many of them would have shown up for a Saturday or Sunday protest? How many of them are here legally? They should have been arrested as truants and if they are not here legally they should be sent back to their home countries. It is the illegal immigrants who make it hard for people to come here legally. We need to close our borders to illegals to protect ourselves.

You want to arrest students for peacefully sticking up for a cause they feel passionate about? Wow.

No, I want them arrested for truancy not for protesting. They can protest to their heart’s content outside of school hours. As a former school-age person I recall to clearly how insignificant the things I felt “passionate about” really were.

If these kids protested on** their **time instead of during school hours it would give them and their issue credibility. Instead it demeans the issue and makes them truants for no good reason.

I love the fact that people who have not seen these kids make assumations. Yes do I think some of these kids walked out to be cool and leave school…yea…but i also know the racial make-up of these schools makes sense to why these kids are protesting and when you see pictures or video’s it is not a bunch of white or black middle class kids running around. These are Mexican and Immigrant kids protesting. These are the people who are going to be effected by these laws. These are the the childern’s lives who can and might be torn apart. These kids are walking MILES in the rain…I don’t think those who don’t hold true to what the protest is about wouldn’t last that long and would probally bail out of the protest pretty earlier on.

Yes, the law says they should be in school. If they break the law they should be arrested, charged with a crime and given a trial.

Sickening, isn’t it. Some of us actually remember being school age.
Yes do I think some of these kids walked out to be cool and leave school
At least 99.999999999% of them anyway;)

This reminds me of the Walk Outs of the East LA schools in the 1960’s. These kids were passionate about equality, in fact they were beaten, imprisoned and threatened. Just because some of you have never had a passion about something you believed in doesnt mean that others dont. I have worked with school age kids as a mentor and beleive me they are not all school skipping morons without a care in the world. Many of them feel passionate about this issue, look who it will effect, their families, their friends, their church, their loved ones, I would be made as all get out as well! In fact i AM mad as all get out! These kids are awesome! stand up and fight for what is right!

Whats sickening is that those of you who remember those years cant remember ever having been passionate about something, I think that speaks more about and individual than an age group. It took guts and courage because they will no doubt be punished, especially the teachers who are walking with them. Thats courage that some people dont have. Talk about conviction!

The new mantra for the school age kids is now, “Skip school! Be uneducated! Demean any real impact your protest might have by skippin school! Don’t be responsible and lend your protest any credibilty by protesting on your own time!”

👍

Really? You know what I can or can’t remember. Would you share with me what else you know I remember, please?
I think that speaks more about and individual than an age group.
You are entitled to your opinion and I thank you for sharing it.
It took guts and courage
Yeah, it always took a lot of courage to walk out of school en mass when I was a kid…no wait…we protested after school when we knew we could get TV coverage. I remember now:)
because they will no doubt be punished
As they should be.
, especially the teachers who are walking with them.
From where I sit, these teachers should be fired for abandoning their classrooms.
Thats courage that some people dont have. Talk about conviction!
Yeah, real courage is required to be a poor role model and advocate skipping class. Some conviction, indeed

How do you know what these kids are thinking? They are making a point. Do you think anyone would really care if kids got together and protested on a Saturday somewhere? of course not. They had to make a statement and get the coverage they needed thats why they did it then.

So let me get this straight. Everyone is saying that these “kids” can’t be passionate about anything because of their age? Since when does age make you suddenly smart and that your opinion counts? Kids can be passionate about a lot of social issues. This one just happens to be in the forefront at the moment. Right now these kids are speaking up and showing that they are not happy is them voicing their opinion. I personal believe that a good majority of these kids are passionate about this issue. This new law will effect them and their families so i think if anyone has a right to speak out it is these kids! Last time i looked the constitution of the United States didn’t have an age limit that it suddenly kicked in on. (Yes these kids can’t vote at the moment but a lot of the can in the next election).

Also I didn’t know there was a time limit on when one could protest? To kids their school is their work. Just like you would leave your job to go protest these kids are leaving their. And just like you would be punished or docked time or pay so will these kids. I know a lot of HS have exemption programs for finals and absences count against those so these kids are going to be “punished”.

Beckers

P.S…at least we can show the rest of the world that when we protest against our government that it is peaceful…we are doing a lot better than france and some of Europe…

Same way you do;)

Yes.
of course not.
Why not?
They had to make a statement
Why? What unseen or seen force is propelling them?
and get the coverage they needed thats why they did it then.
Wow, you know this because you are there with them protesting and making these posts from a blackberry?
